Reading Warhammer

Recent news about this game has me foaming at the mouth again.  I was thinking about picking up a couple of the novels so i could learn more about the game lore.  Does anybody have any recommendation's???

Riders of the Dead by Dan Abnett is quite good.

It focuses mainly on the imperial-allied Kislevite armies against the invading northern hordes of chaos, specifially a warband that follows Tzeench. The book touches on a lot of the workings and rituals behind the two.

Gotrek & Felix books are a decent read but the writing is a little poor in the early novels.  Blackhearts by Nathan Long and The Ambassador Chronicles by Graham McNeill are also good reads.

As someone who has worked for GW retail I'd suggest going to a local GW store or hobby shop and taking a read through the Army books of the various armies. There you will get a good fluff background on why they fight. Most novels are ok, but they usually just cover a small section of the overall scheme of things.

Now, I'm not saying buy the army books, lol, though I own up to date version of all the Fantasy and 40K codexs, but instead find a store that has "store copies" that are "opened", find a chair and take a read. If you're lucky, they also have the table-top  battles going and you get to see the strategic gaming side of where WAR comes from.

"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

I agree with Khalathwyr. You can currently get the old books for about $6-$9, since the new books are being printed and rolled in. I would say the GW books are far better than the novels upon introducing someone to the lore and back ground of the characters.

The novels can be a good supplement though once you know who is who.

I started reading Warhammer books not very long ago. I started with the Daemon Gates trilogy by Aaron Rosenberg and I found it very nice. Now I'm reading first to second Omnibus of Gotrek And Felix. I really like the Warhammer universe and how the Empire aren't like the old ''good'' and ''noble'' (and ''weak'') type of humans.
