A better DDO Video

Here is an interesting DDO video incase you didn't like the bunny hopping video:

Apparently this was an event on the japanese servers.  In case you don't know the guy doing it has a number of movement buffs.

Sorry, just makes this oldschool AD&D player cry a little inside.  I haven't played pen&paper games in a really long time,  but damn, that's just horrible.  I'm so glad I never tried DDO, for reasons that suddenly seem trivial in comparison.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Not really sure what you mean.  Neither one says anything about how authentic DDO is to the D&D 3+ rule set.

Otto's dance, feather fall, and haste have been in D&D since 1st edition.

And the obstacle course is just a special event put together by the japanaese GMs.

The american GM's only do RP events.  I guess I can see why now.  Never would have thought a just for fun obstacle course would cause fits of nerd rage.

The video shows activity entirely out of context of the game.

the only thing i asked myself was : how often might he have done the same quest allready ? 10 times ? 20 ?

That was an event, not a quest.

BTW, you can level to the cap in DDO without ever repeating a single quest even once...in fact you can level to cap without actually even completing all the quests in the game even once.

    Research is your friend.

As an old school AD&D (never played any other version; no 2nd, 3rd, etc) player myself I can say you are severly missing out.  It is by far one of the best MMO's on the market.  Mind you, I did quit DDO the 2nd month after launch and came back a year later.

Try to ditch the ignorance and come see the game.  The trial will give you ample oportunity to experiance all the content in game.

Try it, I dare you. :)

Well in the case of mmorpg's ignorance isnt bliss lol. These videos are entirely out of context of the game as someone else said on here and there is actually quite a mature playerbase. i actually think they did a really good job in fitting the DnD ruelsets into an mmorpg and the realtime combat is a blast (its still calculated dnd style its just realtime). Try looking at what the game is rather that what it isnt, you are just missing out on something you might enjoy if you werent being ignorant and set in your ways.

Started playing mmorpg's in 1996 and have been hooked ever since. It began with Kingdom of Drakkar, Ultima Online, Everquest, DAoC, WoW...

As someone who has played all editions of D&D and is fortunate enough to currently play almost every week, I don't know why anyone who likes D&D AT ALL wouldn't at least give the free trial a shot.

When you start tripping monsters as a fighter, or archering people down as a ranger, or doing everything well as a cleric, or finding and disabling traps as a rogue, or being a barbarian with extra speed and maxed jump skill, or Fascinating as a bard, or hurling fireballs around, it's just plain fun, and the grouping is great.

Well, I've been playing D&D since 1976 and I have to say that I laughed my head off at those videos.

    Very creative!

That said, I am still waiting to try this game until they can place something more than just questing in the game and make it work. While I understand the initial design philosophy of the game, I also feel that it was a mistake to limit themselves by it.

It sounds like, however, that they are moving closer towards introducing other content that would make me want to give it a try.

    Looking forward to it.

Jeff there is alot more content in there now, quite a few outdoor areas aswell and a bit of pvp to. You gotta remember this is their interpretation of a DnD story and it happens to have alot on dungeons.... the thing is you could play DnD pnp as if you were ina  dungeon or even in an outside world if you wanted but who knows, they may have wanted to just stick with the idea of dungeons when they made it which is far enough, in my opinion they did really really well anyway.

Like I said, RDBeast, I don't know how someone can like DnD AT ALL, much less have played it for decades, and still not try a 10-day free trial. And the game itself and first month is only like 10 bucks. I say this of course to take a poke at Jeff to get him to try it. :)

When your sorcerer throws that first fireball... oh yeah, that's worth playing the free trial right there.

My PnP friends have avoided it, but some don't want to get sucked into ANY game that has a monthly fee, while others play WoW and the like because with PnP they get enough DnD or because their wives like WoW.

With real-time play and lots of magic items, certain builds that don't work in PnP can be a whole lot of fun in DDO. Unfortunately, now I'm a little spoiled and frustrated in PnP when those builds don't work well turn-based or with less gold and magic available.
