Hello everyone.
I have been playing Final Fantasy XI for awhile now(Lv 72 SMN)
but lately I have found it has started to get abit dull and repeats alot.
Exp pt's been the worse here. 90% of time the pt don't talk and it's pretty mindless.
I do like been in Exp Groups/Partys as I find this to be a highlight for the game.
I have been considering tryin WoW for awhile but other then reading the manual & videos on youtube I don't know much if anything about WoW.
Tryin to decide if I should leave FFXI and go to WoW or stay with FFXI.
My major worry on WoW is I will be starting from new on a EU Server(Dunno which yet)
and won't know anyone >.<
I'm a very social person and like to chat on guild chat on FFXI but going to WoW I won't have a guild for awhile as far as I'm told.
Any advice on the two games that could help me decide?
Thanks in advance.
Hope ur all having a great weekend!

If you were able to stand FFXI's grind long enough to get to 72?
Then you will HATE WoW, its the complete opposite game.
What ya mean?
Why would I hate it?
He's saying that if you were able to play and enjoy FFXI for so long, WoW isn't gonna be much of a challenge. We're talking about transferring from a ball-bustin', team focus game to a game which is so immensely softcore that you can max your level in a matter of days.
Ohhhh lol.
I played FFXI purely for fun and just enjoyed lvling as I wanted to and when I didn't I used to just chat in town or lvl a craft skill.
I know you can max ya char is WoW pretty fast but I probs wouldn't I'd take my time to enjoy what I was doing.
I do enjoy lvling Craft skills and the skinning looks very good and also looks like a Money Maker.
Just really can't seem to pick between the two.
I do like expin in grps tho more then solo hehe like I said I'm a very social person only thing I wouldn't do is the vent live chat cause I really don't like talking over microphone.
Anything else that could help me decide?
If you're social and enjoy grouping you won't have much problem getting into WoW
It's simple to learn, VERY social and you don't have to be all hardcore,
many Karazhan (Lower Raid) guilds will pick anyone at 70 up to go with them,
there's also quite a bit of grouping even when leveling, not forced, but you can if you want to.
You can also go for a newbie guild while leveling, they're usually filled with alts and such just leveling and talking and such, so I wouldn't worry about that.
I would say WoW over FF, it's more social and not as bleeding repetetive to be honest with ya.
Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
It all sucked.
I played FFXI for 4 years, then switched to WoW to play with RL friends.
Here's the lowdown:
You're going to hate partys in WoW. Everyone sucks, compared to players from FFXI. FFXI players are on a completely different level of skill, way above that of WoW players.
The game is rediculously easy to the point where it's actually boring to level up.
When you raid in WoW, it's not difficult at all. The game is 100% gear based. You can be the worst player in a guild and do the most damage because you have better gear than other players. Skill does not matter at ALL in this game.
You're going to die a lot, especially in raids, due to other people's mistakes. And I know when I switched over and died, I'd always be pissed off because I'm used to the EXP loss from FFXI, which they don't have in WoW. I think that's a major problem about the game. The most you get from dieng is a very tiny repair bill for your equipment. It has no real impact on you. So players die more. And they suck more because the second something starts to go the wrong way they automatically call "wipe".
Anyway. Stick with FFXI if you want to be not bored, and not pissed off. At least get 75 first and do some sky/dynamis/gods/etc.
hmm well wow is a pretty easy game....you might get bored of it easily....stick with ff11 till q2 2008....thats when all the new mmorpgs come out...
I suggest you try a rp-pvp or rp server. People are usaly better mannered and allot more social on these servers. If you are new to rp thats no big deal, there are even guilds who dont rp whatsoever. But the rp guilds are usaly allot tighter and more fun since thy do stuff just for social and not for gear. Its the community that makes a mmo good :P you might like wow, or not. You got a 10 day trial that you can use than decide. I am sure some guild will even take you from lvl one, just cheak realm forums for invites.
Give WOW a try. There is a reason 10 million people are playing it.
The game is very social, and there are a lot of people playing so you should be able to make friends and get into a guild without too much trouble. If nothing else it will give you a pleasant bit of entertaiment for the next six months or so, before something else comes along.
Secondly if you say you are a social/group person WoW will not offer you more than FF. Groups before 60+ will be rare and far between and let's just say that the experience you'll have with them will be bad at best. After 60+ you may get some nice groups but don't expect much. In fact you'll find that party in WoW is totally optional unless you want to do end game.
In conclusion if you are going for the social aspect FF>WoW by far.
If you go for the loot and end game I'd say about even or so in their scope.
WoW although an MMO, has an optional social aspect and combined with the numbers it has you'll see more sociopathic gamers than not.
All in all though I'd say try it and see how it works for you. You will be able to get into guilds although most are end game ones so you will need to be close to 70 to accept you. I'd say play WoW for a couple of months just see if your boredom of FF comes due to burnout.
A friend is not him who provides support during your failures.A friend is the one that cheers you during your successes.
I enjoyed FFXI a lot more than WoW. I didn't like WoW at all actually. I tried playing for a few months when I was bored of FFXI at the time, and it just wasn't for me. They always have the free trial to test the game out so you can always do that. But its nothing like FFXI.
And you can't really determine how good a game is just based on the population. People obviously have different tastes and companies cater to different audiences. The reason why WoW has over 10 million players is cause it caters mainly to the casual player. Which is pretty much the opposite of FFXI.
Depends on your taste.. I find WoW 100x better and easier than FFXI but that's just me. There are definitely some hardcore players that love FFXI and have been with the game for years. FFXI is a good game too but the old archaic designs and severe death penalties are what turned me off the game.
- ehhh..... ehhh.... 10million players, 10million players!
10 Million players WORLDWIDE and probably around 2.5 million players in north america. WoW has a lot of servers (hundred plus) and each server has around 30K-40K people on average. What most people like about WoW is the ease of game play, neglibile death penalty, and lots of instance dungeons, raids, pvp and accessibility (even crappy computers from 5 years ago can run WoW). You can say that the design of WoW pretty much caters to almost every conventional MMO playstyle.
- ehhh..... ehhh.... 10million players, 10million players!
Actually WoW is a pretty fun game to play. It caters to different playstyles and there is a lot of stuff to do. PvP is action packed and intense, especially when there are a lot of people fighting. Although some of the quests are "kill 15 of x" or "collect 10 of x", a lot of quests are actually fun. For example there is a quest where you use a robot to kill another robot. Or when you have to bomb things from your flying mount while flak cannons are trying to shoot at you and you have to dodge them.
Anyway, to the OP, like others have said, the game has a free 10 day trial. So give it a try and see if you like it.
I played Final Fantasy XI for about 5 years, and i am retired now for a number of years as well, it was an awesome experience, like none other, I recently also played wow for a number of months, almost a year, joined guild and got 2 lv 50+ characters, it was a very fun experience, and very straight forward, it seemed more casual to me than Final fantasy xi, as i said before the game is awesome experience, but after so long it just starts to be like your second job, but in this case you are paying instead of getting paid, again with wow it was fun, but I lost interest fast, as you may have read some of the facts about the game from previous posts above me you will see why, i'm not gonna bother detailing them again, stick with Xi i guess until you see Aion and GW2, there is tons to do in that game a side from lvlling, as you would already know.
Goodness... so many uninformed/ignorant opinions on here. Those of you who say that quality groups are rare on WoW are absolutely wrong. Perhaps on your server this was the case, but if you play on a role playing server, the community is one hundred times better, and I've met many mature players who actually know HOW to play their class effectively and aren't spewing the "Chuck Norris" crap every few minutes. Besides, a decent guild means everything, and if you join a lot of PUGs, then of course your bound to meet idiots.
While I typically only play FFXI off and on, I've met plenty of idiots in that game. They just happen to quit faster than they do on WoW. Unless you are a shut in, WoW was a godsend for the many people who wanted to be able to maintain their lives and play an MMO at the same time. It's true that WoW is a much easier game, which attracts more children as a result. This would be the main reason for the misconception that everyone who plays WoW "sucks," which is definitely not the case. In fact, my guild doesn't group with anyone outside of our guild in order to avoid the more inept players, and we carefully screen anyone before allowing them to join. Most of our core members actually know each other in real life. Unless you get into a guild that allows everyone to join, which is the staple of a low quality guild, I would recommend searching for a guild via the forum of the realm you are planning on joining. One of the best guilds I was ever in came from applying on the forums. As a rule, I would NEVER join a guild that is openly recruiting in game as this means they must be desperate. A good guild requires an application.
My advice to the OP would be to first acquaint himself with the forum of the realm on which he plans to join. There is typically a thread listing most of the more prominent guilds listed as a sticky. From here he could choose the guild that best suits his needs.
