Is TR as bad as they saying?

sombra55sombra55 Member Posts: 12

I have been reading these forums regarding TR since I feel like I want to give it a try. So far I've not gotten any responses on whether my comp can run this game so while I wait I read. Now I'm begining to wonder if this game is worth buying.

WoW! I've not seen so many disappointed players in a game since Vanguard came out. Lot's of people complaining about TR. Is it that bad?

I may have to re-think buying this game after all. I know you can't please everyone but right now I just don't know.

Get the free trial from this website and try it,

everyone has bad things to say about every game, so just try it for yourself.

I played in the open beta some and i dont think its that the game is bad really but the fact that the game was supposed to be this amazingly innovative game made by one of hte industry's best and it turned out to be just  another MMO that is exactly the same as all the others out there.

Most of the players I've seen in game actually say they love the game. I think the ones that don't like TR are the ones that expected an MMOCounter-Strike version of the game.

I'm going to be upgrading my PC this month, but my PC is a 2GHz AMD Sempron, 2GB memory and an ATI X1650 512MB AGP and the game runs great. I imagine it will run fine even on a 1.5GHz and 1.5GB ram but the video card is going to be picky.

I had already checked there are no more free trials.

What I'm waiting on is for info on whether I can run this game on my comp or not which I still haven't gotten. Hope someone who knows does respond.

I blame the credit spammers, I've noticed they 've quieted down lately since they too probably can't find more keys after getting account banned 5 seconds after the initial advertisement by a GM.

Tabula Rasa is tremendous fun provided it's genre and play-style are to your liking. Those who like swords and sorcery are never going to succumb to it's charms, nor those who are hoping for a twitcher-style fps. Give it a chance though and it's epic storyline, visceral combat and great instances may sweep you along.

Despite a lot of moans about it being buggy, even before last weeks patch it was possible to level past 25/50 before coming across a bugged mission. After the patch you can go a good deal higher. Those who have rushed to L50 have groaned about end-game content but with only two updates so far since release and another due toward the end of this month, it is still very early days in the game's evolution.

Personally I think NCSoft have shot themselves in the foot somewhat by limiting the game's trial to 3 days. Most people in that time will barely reach the instances in the first region, the Wilderness, and whilst the Wilderness gives a great taste of what is to follow, the game doesn't fully start to blossom until the subsequent regions Divide and Palisades.

The game isn't without it's flaws, but it is off to a good start and hopefully will build upon it's already strong foundations.

Dont personally think its a bad game ,although alot of peeps seem too just say its bad without any real explanation, I rather like to think that "Tabula Rasa promised so much but delivered so little", a real missed oppurtunity this game I think would also be better than saying its just bad.

However the game does have potential to be a very solid Mmo, I'm just not so sure if Ncsoft have the Vision to make it such .

    It's a good game, but it's young.

Devs are concentrating on getting the basics in, and as such are neglecting the end-game a bit too much for my liking, but few games at release have decent end-games. The combat IS fun, the game is faster paced than most MMO's and the recent patch injected a level of much-needed difficulty to a game that was becoming so easy it was trivial.

All the patches I've seen have been good.

We complained about ammo prices for weapons with a high rate of fire; the weapon prices were nerfed.

Everyone was playing a spy because they were easymode; Spies were nerfed and now there are a reasonable amount of them.

There's a definate feel that the developers of the game listen to the community, ignore the vocal morons and make the right decisions.

The Game USED to be fun. But after 1.4 the changed the whole game to a bad slow MMO. at lower levels your still have fun, at higher levels you find your self in a CLICK fest, meaning, you just click and hope the mobs die. i cancelled my account after 1.4. No more fun.

The main aspect of the game is great fun

beside that theres not much to do right now and the devs are fixing

classes and gameplay with the crowbar method.

    -Graphics are good

-Gameplay is big fun and fast

    -clone system is nice

    -Quests are funny to read

    -Dungeons/instances are well made

    -Chaingunning is tah fun ^^

-Grenadiers are the true Rambos you spy and guardian scum

well i liked my time there, just was anoyed by the BIG changes the devs did.. im alergic

to that and the nerfbat..like your radiator makes some tiny noise and the plumber starts beating it

full force with his sledge hammer

Don't listen to the haters. TR is a lot of fun.

So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist.

Im not sure how MMMORPG.com does there free give aways like the trial, but it would seem that, if they dont want to be a gateway for scammers, they would have to meke contest and give aways for people who have been members of the website at least a month and so many post. Actual post w, at least a 500 letters or more.

Unfortunatley they currently (I think) Let anyone who joins MMORPG.com get a key.

Which is unfortunate because I really wanted one.

I thought it was fun too. But there's nothing to do really other than get each class to 50. I got 3 toons to 50 then had enough and left. I really wish developers wouldn't release games before they're done.

For questions about the PC specs, I tried it on a 6 year old PC to see if it would work and it did - just turn the settings to low. 2.5 GHz P4 with 1GB of RAM. I wouldn't try to play it with anything less though ;)

Too bad about the trial accounts :(

I've seen a lot of crybabies who will say the game sucks because of minor things which they should just get over and adapt. I've heared the game pace got slowed down for some classes but if you pick the right class you'll be tearing through mobs like it's water.

Other than that i'm not really sure what their problem with the game is. I'm currently 33 playing a brann hybrid in mires. I'll be leaving for plateau soon. Used to have a rough time there but with 1 or 2 extra levels i should be ok. I also hear they reevaluated the difficulty past lvl 30 making it similar to 1-30 so i have good hopes of making it to 50.

Hopefully in next patch they'll adress endgame because i'm sure that's stoping many from getting the game and making many to quit the game.

There is no game with such dynamics on market at the moment. Quests are good and I mean it. Give a chance to the game. In 6monts - 1yr TR will be the best game (TR need content). I played alot of mmorpgs and there is awlays "that game is not that I wanted to be" stuff.

The main reason you see so many sour grapes on this Fourm is real simple:

It's all about expectations vs. reality.

The EXPECTATIONS were this fabulously new thing that would remake the entire MMO genre in one fell swoop.  Problem is, NO game can live up to that.  Even the current fave-rave Bioshock in the single-player genre is a rehash - specifically, of System Shock II.

The REALITY is that TR is a fun, enjoyable MMORPG - note the RPG at the end.  This is NOT MMO Counterstrike or Call of Duty.  It never was.  Peple expected it to be, though.  What's one of the major things you hear?  "Enemies shots home in on me!" - Well, since this is a RPG where the hit's determined by a dice roll - OF COURSE it would.  It's not a FPS.  Other MMOssuch as WoW have a simplar issue with "tracking arrows" - same thing, it's the gameplay rules catching up with player interaction.

Go into it with the mindset of it being a RPG with *elements* of a FPS, and you'll enjoy it.  Go into it with the mindset of it being a FPS with RPG elements, and you'll be sadly disappointed.

Now, all that being said, if you really want to try it I have a couple of keys left - pop me a PM and I'll send you a US one.

The game is a grind, pure and simple.

Grind? There's no grind until at least level 30 (I stopped at 29). Except if you do all the ToO quests of course.

The game is fun in the early level, then once you get arround level 20 there's a big problem: There are not enough people playing (except on saturday). It's really hard to get a full 5-6 players group to do instances. People also like to use the same argument as in Guild Wars: "It's soloable so I solo it". I though the point of a MMO is MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER.

It's really fun in group, gets boring soloing.

You can get free trial by asking activate players on forums. It's 3 days and if you buy the game & at least a 2nd month, the referer gets a free month.

You can now get it for arround $20-25 so it's a good game to play for 2-3 months.

There are missions enough to get you to L30+ at least without having any need to grind. The only possible reason for grinding might be, as the previous poster points out, to achieve the objectives of the 'targets of opportunity' (ToO) missions and these can usually be fulfilled just by doing the missions in a zone. Where that is not the case eg Nitroglazers in Plains, the ToO can be achieved by joining a team participating in control point offence/defence.

Ultimately, as with any rpg game, you get out what you put in. If you choose to avoid the game's story driven content in a pointless rush for the level cap as has become the norm in WOW, then Tabula Rasa will not be for you.

Its a fun game.  I no longer play because i started getting into call of duty 4 again, but i did have fun playing TR.  One of the things i really liked was the feeling that you were in the middle of a constant battle.  Huge mobs would spawn and everybody in the area would rush them :P  Ive played very few mmorpgs "in-depth" but the only other mass attacking with your fellow players ive experienced was pre-battlegrounds world of warcraft world pvp (south shore vs. tauren mill :) and planetside.  Ive heard the original star wars galaxies had this same "aspect" along with lineage 2 and shadowbane.

I couldn't stick to this game...whoever said it was a grind is correct.  You might be doing quests...but every quest is kill 100 of those monsters over there.  I also had no expectations to this game, I wasn't even checking it out till after it came out and just said what the hell...  I didn't even make it a month and I didn't get that far and I did hear a lot of people say it gets more fun later in the game.  But for me,  I was too bored to make it that far.  I also really like sci-fi, so its not that either, just not my type of game I guess.  I like fps style combat...and this game seemed less twitchy than WoW to me.  So I guess it just depends what your into.

I haven't tried and probably never will.

Thing is, when I first heard about a Richard Garriot game, I thought sandbox type gameplay, it isn't, so I am not wasting my time on another EQ clone with sci-fi wrappings.

I realise that arguing on the internet is as much use as punching myself in the face, but there are 0 kill 100 x missions in tabula rasa aside from the 'targets of opportunity' missions to earn clone credits. And ToO missions complete themselves whilst you are running around doing other missions.

There are collect 8 of these or 5 of those style missions in which by default you have to kill the monsters from whose loot tables the items drop, but nothing like what you suggest. The vast majority of missions are story-led. Compared to my last mmorpg's, Vanguard and LOTRO, TR is a free-flowing walk in the park.

By all means hate the game, but for the sake of the original posters question, lets not misrepresent it.
