Okay, after spending some time recently on an Ultima Online server, I took note of some names. To be absolutely fair in my name noting, I decided not to just take 10 of the dumbest names I saw and place them here, but stood at one point on a trail and took down players names as they passed by me on the trail.
..And this is the result:
"Chopman Scizzors" - a noob dressed in ncp plate and no chest piece running down the trail with a lame dagger of "ruin" in hand.
"Spider Man" - Um, he didnt look a whole lot like the Spider-Man movies I have seen.
"Yermom YesU" - No lie. Actually decked out in pretty nice magic leather armor, obviously a mage.
"Dawn Farbringer" - Okay, not too bad after some of these names I've just wrote down, lol.
"Tony Romo" - I looked hard for a blue and silver jersey or a football in hand, but didn't find such equipment.
"bobfu" - hmmm, my name isn't "bob" so I guess I won't take this name personally at least, heh.
"Spicey Gurl" - oh boy. errr, sorry "gurl" {rolls eyes}
"OblivionRX" - Hmmm, could it be a cheap rip-off name from the Oblivion game? Ohhh, never! - Riight.
"BetterThenYou Sue" - Oh yeh, "sue" let's take it to Felucia and just find out, eh?
"Devas Tate" - Sadly, one of the most creative names I've seen pass by.
This isn't "WoW" people. This was the old-school UO that I witnessed these names on. I might expect such names to be seen in WoW or Guild Wars maybe, but not UO.
Does anyone think most of these names here are good names for a fantasy mmo? Are they creative? Realistic?
Why don't we take a VOTE of the best of these ten names just out of pure curiosity. Yeh, and don't flame me for a silly thread topic. These damn names in these games these days are what's freakin' silly as hell.

You pretty an ass you know that? Do you know the history behind Ultima? Lord British summons through the moongate an avatar, to save the world. He transport to his world , you come from whatever reality Lord British called you.
Ever read any of the storys from Lord British , or his brother? During the wild west age of UO , when copyright , and trademarks werent enforced, UO allowed you to mimic in name and outfit to some famous people. There was a Hulk Hogan guy (who can be seen in the screen shots when Lord British was pked) , there was a batman like character. There was also a few others who spent countless hours being characters until they had to enforce copyright & trademark.
...Uhhh, I'm the ass?? So you like all these lame ass names I take it. ...So sorry to have offended you Azure77. Batman is a GREAT name for such a game, you're so correct. {rolls eyes}

Spider Man, awesome. I've seen worse names in Random Arenas in Guild Wars though. Forgot the names but must of them revolved around your momma, or niggers.
Imo ,WoW takes the worst char name prize with: Rogues named "Rouge"
I think they are funny, if I remember correctly I've seen testiculos, parishilton, vaginicus, SpreadyourLegs, ArmPenith ( you have to see a porn video to understand this one though), TightButt, 2girlsNoCup
I've seen KingKongBR
That name was made of win.
People who pick stupid names like that don't respect the spirit of the game. They really try and spoil the immersion factor. I would personally ban them outright but developers really are to blame for letting stupid names like that slide. They should be forced to change them.
Its called having fun. its better than boring names like tresgar or something
The people who don't like fun names are just uptight boring people
meh... let people have the names they want to have... maybe on a roleplaying server it should be harsher but if someone is roleplaying spiderman or a tightbutt... then let it be so Oo
Agreed, but I don't think the developpers are to blame directly. Most games have a naming policy these days which usually prohibits the use of sexually conotated or trademarked names such as Spiderman, Batman or any name even slightly resembling a brand or character belonging to an IP. The fault probably lies with the lacks or understaffed Customer Support department for not acting on that policy.
Alas, even on "roleplaying"servers in every single game I have played, there has been little enforcement of any naming policy (that's since Neverwinter Nights on AoL- which had no RP server by the way).
Honestly, I don't think these people are playing the same game as you, so to speak. Or maybe you're not playing the same game as them. I'd venture to say they view their character's in game name as more of a chatroom type moniker- something that is supposed to stand out and grab other's attention. In fact, I'd bet the guy who got Spider Man as a name was very happy about it and even surprised that it was available.
As someone who plays mmoRPg's, I generally find that a person's online name says a lot about them and how they act. It's kind of a banner letting the world know what kind of experience they want. To each their own, I say.
Personally, I would answer a call for help from Dawn Farbringer before I would BetterThanYou Sue. The later might get ignored altogether.
From a developer's standpoint, I doubt they'd refuse anyone's $$$. Even Yermom YesU has a mom that pays his subscription fee.

And the name ( zaxtor ) must have taken some real though to come up with. How do you know that those names are not just kids playing their parents account? You need to do somthing like..... get a girlfriend or find somthing to do rather than pick out names that are just below average, just like your name is ( zaxtor ).
lol
I don't think his MMORPG forum name makes his post irrelevant.
Ironic, perhaps, but probably not. I doubt his in game name is the same.
Is it Zaxtor99?

Sucks to see em, but whaddya gonna do about it?
Report their asses.
It still doesn't come close to hurting small animals however.
tbh. silly namers dont bother me in games.
but what bother me is, the people who whines over other peoples names is often the persons who have read a nice book/seen a movie/played a game, and in what ever media they have been looking at, they have found a cool name.
so they either take it or rewrite it a bit. thats sad in my eyes.
and yes, i loath people who refuse to talk to others because of a silly name.
I'm all for strict RP policies on RP servers, but outside of them, lets go wild. There are some really lame names, like naming yourself the class you play or even with spelling errors or putting whatever nationality you are behind a nick. Or names that are the epitome of uncreative mediocrity, like Killer or so. But putting that aside, I kind of like seing all sorts of wacky and creative names. For example seeing a hunter named ZappBranningan running around with his pet named Kif kind of makes me chuckle.
Subscribtions: EVE, SWTOR WOW, WAR, DDO, VG, AOC, COV, FFXI, GW, RFO, Aion
+plenty of F2P, betas, trials
Female Dwarf player: WOW, VG, WAR, DDO
.
Due to the recent economic crisis and spending cuts the light at the end of the tunnel was turned off. Sincerely, God.
Oddly the RP server I played on in WoW had good enforcement. Not that it was GREAT, but if you reported someone for having a non-RP name, it usually got changed.

Since when is a forum board the same as an avatar inside a fantasy online RPG? I have never named any of my characters inside an mmo "Zaxtor99", but thanks for making that "ASS-umption"
A few of my mmorpg avatar names have been "Diesel Dancil", "Oloz", "Zaxal Rayad", and once when I was traveling by car going back to my Naval ship in Virginia from visiting home on military leave, I got stranded in Cheyenne, Wyoming due to a bigtime blizzard. I sat inside the hotel room I had rented until they re-opened the highway and was on my laptop thinking of my new female avatars name... As I looked out the hotel window at all the snow flakes being hurled into the glass, I came up with "Cheyenne Storm".
I understand that it is the freedom of the players to choose their own name and that I should probably care less, however I have pretty much always ignored or refused to group with some dork that named his avatar some gay crap like "MeOwnzU".
To each their own I guess.

Yes... im an ass, NO im 100% ass when it comes to oranges like you and proud of it. Its the same thing in names, either in game or forum name. I pointed out you making fun of lame names when your name is by far just as lame as any of the ones you pointed out. Yes its the freedom for a player to name his/her toon anything they want, so get over it. I dont care what a players name is in a game, if they are a good person and player. I also take time out to help new players in game or answer questions, dont care what the name is. Id also like to toss in, your ( friends ) must have some really nice cars.
Judging somone by their name is somthing that young snobish high school girls do.
Have a good day zaxtor.... lulz??? yes lulz!!!
