Hi, guys.
At this moment I'll checking out both this game as well as Tabula Rasa. I don't know which of the two to get. TR looks to me as a Planetside clone. I didn't like Planetside, it was bland and cold. I could be wrong though about TR being like that though. Hellsgate looks like a cross between CoX and whats the name of that game with the apocalytic setting with the cars that was cancelled in September of this past year? Like that game it looks with the settings. That one I liked but at nothing at the end once you leveled up.
OK, while this may sound dumb, is this a game with other players like Tabula Rasa and the other games here or is it just a game for one person? I asked because I read where someone said they couldnt get into the 'elite' version once they had finished the game in 'normal'.
Edit: So, this is just a regular type playstion game which once you finsih it you're done? Ahh, what a disappointment if it is like this. THis last edit part I just put in last because I just read where someone sated they finished the game.
I just came from the website and I saw several videos, looks good. So whats the story here? Hell opened up and took over London?
is there a website I can go other then the games where they have info on the professions?
Thank You for any help you can provide.

Alright in a nutshell, this isn't a standard MMO. There is both a single player and a multiplayer online part.
The multiplayer is the same as the single player, except when you're in the subway hubs across London you see the other players running around and can group up for quests and what not in instanced environments. It's kinda like Guild Wars, except all the outposts seem to be in Subways.
The online portion is fun, and when you buy the game you essentially get the normal modes for online play at no further cost.
However, they have premium subscriber content; which allows more character slots, the ability to host and own your own Guild (free members can still join), and new content being added just for Subscribers. If you get a glimpse of the Stonehenge areas, that's subscriber content that just got added this month. Supposedly they're going to have more expansions added every couple months for subscribers.
The Elite and Hardmode difficulties are also premium content.
Personally I enjoy the game, and ended up paying a founder's fee for a lifetime subscription. But I personally think the subscription part should only be for those who really get into it; but the standard non-subscriber version I found to be perfectly enjoyable in that Diablo sense.
So yeah, it is a computer action-hack'n'slash with online features for both regular players and subscription services for more content. But it's nothing like CoX. I'd compare it more to a darker version of Phantasy Star Online with the game design of Diablo II (since it is made by the former Blizzard North team).
As far as profession info and the like, not sure what kind of info you're needing but I suppose you can check out sites like HellGateGuru and check out their class forums for discussions of builds and what not. Can't say anything about Tabula Rasa, but if you're looking for a more immersive MMO then TR might be the better bet.
having played both I think HG:L is better than TR. Graphics, how the controls feel, and character development seem way more important and thought out in HGL.
I agree with unicorns,HGL>TR,though TR is a pretty good game its lacking in content even more than HGL.
Hellgate isn't going to win any awards... but compare to TR, it's a fucking gem.
TR is still pretty new, give it time and it will get better. It took WoW time to get where it is, so will TR.
As will HG; I think comparing the two is really ultimately a decision of if you're looking for a dedicated MMO or just a fun game to play online.
I do have respect for TR despite my lack of experience with it; namely, I'm happy to see someone trying something new for the online market, and I've heard nothing but good things about their involvement with the community and it sounds like they're trying.
The gripes I've heard are the same gripes I've heard about, well, every game at launch.
I agree, but as of right now, get HGL. At least you're not paying for them to sit there and finish up the game (just go subscriber when they do... if they do).

I've been playing TR since beta, good game but for some reason it's really boring if you're not grouping with people. Also, i've heard complaints about the high level stuff in TR being buggy and boring. Personally, I like it, has a good pace, but for some reason it gets boring and the loots are all the same.
Picked up HG:L on friday and literally had a big smile on my face all weekend. This game plays more like a diablo/guild wars type game, fast paced, feels like a single player game with the options to do multiplayer. Graphics are awesome, gameplay is fun and fast paced, loots are worth getting.

Well if you would compare HGL with something else : HGL<Else. But when you putted that way....
Go for HGL, but if you look mmo aspect, you wount find it in here. Its like Diablo2 batttle.net on anablociks , and not in good way. same grinding experience, but no pleasure.
The Best way to describe Hellgate is this, its Diablo 2 on crack, if you ever played Diablo 2. I played TR and the game sucked period. I just picked up Hellgate the other day and have to say this is one of the best games to come out in a long long time, in terms of MMO. Lets put it this way, I canceled my WoW subscription just so I could playing Hellgate (I will only play one MMO at a time). Also if you ever played Diablo 2 you'll find a lot of thing fimiler in Hellgate.
I recommend Hellgate
