Funcom did a pretty decent job with AO considering how old it is, with it's end game. Of course people were willing to accept pretty lame stuff back then too. I just don't understand where the end-game will come from.
This game is on the line for me. Had it come out last year I would have bought it hands' down, but now that it's so close to WAR, I think I might have to pass... idk

To me AoC caters, for lots of different types of players, even though it might be considered niche for its IP.
Well put. That is definately good information, and perspective. I played AO so I have a lot of respect for funcom in keeping a playerbase, and catering to those loyal to their titles. That makes AOC a safe bet that it will be fun and very addictive.

Bear in mind that Mythic did an ok job with Daoc too, and some people might view the same things to be said for warhammer. Its just kind of personal preferance really. Me, I just think AoC can tick the longevity box more confidently than Mythic can with Warhammer. Part of that is also to do with the way FC has kept AO nicely to this day too.
I like substance.
The developers have said endgame raiding, and endgame large-scale PvP. So there are at least two large endgame activities. The destiny quests at least hint at some sort of solo endgame. There's sandbox endgame with the player cities, but we'll have to see how that works out.
Basically, we really don't know. I doubt Funcom have put as much time into Endgame as they need to - no company does before release. That's what they do in the 6 months after release - even Molten Core was not a release instance.

I think the end game for me will be moving over to WAR when it releases.
But that aside, I think you'll have your standard fares, either PVP activities in the border kingdoms, city building, or pve raiding.

I'm thinking that AOC is trying to have end-game to suit many player types. At first I was afraid the end game was going to be only PvP and had little interest in AoC not being a big PvP person and kinda finding PvP boring. But now that I have read more it looks like they will also have a deep PvE game play including end game raiding. This has caught my interest and I'm like 90% the way to preordering. I'm just holding off till they do an open beta or remove the NDA.
I've been burned too many times preordering a game and finding out that it is buggy as hell on release. I really just can't help but thing back to the launch of AO... Shudder.

There will be a lot to do at the endgame. Crafting, city building, raiding and both small scale and large scale pvp.
What we dont know is if there is anything to do for small guilds or players that dont belong to large guilds because all the endgame stuff so far seems to have been designed for large guilds.
WaR is build on many years of experience as to how to make a Realm vs. Realm game and make the pvp and pve aspect of the game into a single unity. Wars endgame will probably be a lot more unified and smooth and almost anything you do will have a relation to pvp.
So I would say if you are a pvp'er then go for war, mythic know what they are doing in that apect. If you like large scale pve go AoC.
If you like small scale pve then I have no clue.
"You are the hero our legends have foretold will save our tribe, therefore please go kill 10 pigs."
The raids, from what I've read, call for 24 people. I guess it's a matter of what different people are calling a "small" guild, as even a small guild of 15 people I'm sure have made other non-guild friends and can get 9 more players to join them for raids.
I tend to view AoC as it has been described at current by the devs to be a well-round PvE game (how many other titles in development have city-building in addition to standard PvE stuff?) that has a PvP side where you can actually take and hold ground with a guild, and keep that ground until someone bigger/stronger takes it from you.
