How many people choose to play the games advertised?

As I jump from MMORPG website to website, forum to forum...We see a lot of  cool looking banner ads showing pictures of various online games. However, when you look, there really isnt any mainstream game thats being advertised. There really isnt a WoW ad, or EQ2, or LOTRO. Games like Eudomons Online, Martial Heroes, etc. Games, Ive honestly never heard of and many are F2P. I would say Eve online is the one exception.

Are we at the point that the big games just dont need to advertise online? Just give a script to Mr T?

Anyone ever see the banner Ads and found them interesting enough to click through?

Anyone ever find a game that they played for a long time through banner ads?

just wondering what other players views and experiences are

If I'm bored and it looks pretty I click it to find out more, but to date, in 12 years of internet banner advertising that I've seen, I've never purchased the product or played the game in question.

They are just annoying. Which is why when I host my own fansites I make sure the site costs come from my own pocket or donations, I refuse to had adverts on my sites if at all possible.

What banners? I can't see any. There are two links hidden in the text, try to find them.

simple there's a point in a MMO's life, viral media, and media in general.   this point is what I call the 'interest generates interest'  stage.   once you get to this stage normal ads become just plain ineffective when you can get it for free from people talking about it(bad or good), all interest is good as it makes more and results in more people looking at you.

complain about WoW all you want haters it's only helping them, more than you think since you're coming off as MR. HaterThatsAKillJoy.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Ads aren't bad, It's how I found my webhost(technically storage for me).  and how I've found a few other smaller things.

New advertising is targeted now days, so the ads aren't really that bad.  The only place I ever bother are general commons type websites or where the ads highjack  your browser.

Well I do check out some of the games even tho if I don't actually play it I do take a look at what's it about and look at it's screenshots. A lot of games from the banner network are indie games (independent games from small developers). I think indie game developers as a whole will become a major source of MMOgames in the future.

Think of it like this. As games get more and more expensive to develop major game developers are gonna field fewer and fewer projects but at a higher and higher quality. Independent game developers will still continue to develop smaller budget games altho as a whole indie developers pretty much has more numerous resources than a single game development studio.

I always at least click the banner ads,(they are supporting this site) If the game catches my interest i'll give it a go, but its been 99.9% disappointment..

It looks like the game market is developing to become tiered.

At the top of the heap are the AAA+ titles that cost several million dollars to develop and probably will go even higher in the years to come. These cater to hardcore gamers or higher than average gamer with high income to pay for the subscription + game cost. I think the standard cost of $50 initial box cost + $15 / month subscription is gonna go up soon enough if not at 2008 it will be at 2009.

Then there's the bulk of the casual gamers. These players are gonna be happy playing the middle class of the market. Low cost games will be in demand as the global market for games start to mature. I think by 2010-2015 the global gaming market will reach billions of players. (The market value for games globally will probably surpass or at least on par with other major entertainment venues such as movies). Indie game developers will probably be filling this middle class market.

I've seen this mythical middle class gamer.   goes on sites that offer a free trial that's flash, then out of all the games she has on the computer she has none that come from a box hower there are a few dozen 'premium' flash games.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Yes...I saw a Ryzom ad on this website almost three years ago. :) It depicted a flock of sheep and a dark-coloured yubo.

Most of the games I've seen advertised here are the free to play ones that just don't interest me at all.   So no, I've never clicked the links to the games here.  I wish they'd be worthy of my time to play, but they all look like something from the Dragonball Z cartoon or something and I'm not a fan of that sort of cartoony artstyle.

This website is a safe haven for trolls and haters. I'm done with this pathetic site.
