Fundamental changes like this are a sign of improper testing and lack of vision. It's really unfair to all the players who invested time leveling characters to have things changed drastically like this. They should offer refunds.
How has it "fundamentally changed"? "Drastic changes"??
The game's foundation and direction haven't changed at all. Just some play-balance tweaks.
Oh, it's typical MMO playerspeak.
"I can't do everything exactly the same way as I did it before <insert patch change here>. I want a refund!"
MMO players are quite possibly the whiniest consumer group in the universe.
So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist.
3. A Tabula Rasa Veteran ??? Has the game been out long enough to call someone a TR veteran ???? Hahahahaha you have to be an Ex-SWG player or you have been reading way to many SWG forum posts.
I was going to say the same thing lol.
So was I. :P

In order to try to make this game more group orientated, the devs drastically changed solo effectiveness. If you've tried the game before 1.3 but didn't level too far, you'd enjoy 1.4, most of the bugs have been fixed and player survivability has been increased. For players who reached level 50 on spys, snipers the game is unplayable now, the other classes got a huge boost but the pace of gameplay has crawled to a turtles pace, guardians for example have better survivability but because the mobs have increased regen and health after 1.4 it takes them forever to kill something. All these changes are part of the devs plan to make tabula rasa more team orientated, so doing anything solo is really counterproductive now. I commend the devs for trying to improve the game but a lot of veteran players were unable or refused to adapt to the changes, especially for a game with no clear endgame. My guild on orion of over 120 members went to less than 20 in 1 and a half weeks after 1.4
1.4 went live on Tuesday or Wednesday. It hasn't been 1 1/2 weeks. You fail.

test server, a couple of guildies play on test server and were warning us about the upcoming changes but we didn't think it was going to be as bad as they were telling us, a few guildies played on test to see what all the warnings were about and we never heard from them again but the majority of the guild waited for 1.4 to hit live and experienced what the test server guys were talking about. as for the guild shrinking, I should have said our guild of 120 members with 30 to 40 active members online at peak times went to 4 sometimes 10 members online at peak times and they are the same people. when i say vet I mean people who were playing since beta and have a 50 or two and a couple clones post 30+, these guys will have a hard time adapting to the new style of play. what makes me worry is new players trying to level, leveling to 50 solo is no longer a viable option, I was playing a ranger class the other day trying to get him to 30 I was fighting a boss 2 levels below me and my regen was outpacing his dmg but my dmg to his health was being overcome by his regen, so after 10 minutes of using bombs, logos abilities and a variety of weapons to the point of them being jammed I couldn't finish him off.
Luckily for me, I have only been playing the game for about two weeks, and so far I can see the 1.4 patch as a positive change. I am at level 19 on one of my characters, and although I now have more hit points, the difficultly level in the game feels like it has gone up too. I can no longer just wade into a mob with impunity, and expect to come out alive, and I am finally learning the value of using terrain to my own advantage.
It is a little bit slower as a single player game, but that is a good change in my view. I actually like grouping with others to achieve difficult goals, or to go on a rampaging killing spree...
There are still a few things that need fixing, like how incredibly easy it is to run everywhere instead of fighting your way through the enemy swarms. but many games suffer from the same issue, and although I could easily suggest ways to avoid this, I think I shall reserve judgment and wait to see what the developers themselves come up with.
I can see how annoying some of these changes could be from a "veterans" point of view, but then they have also given players the chance to adapt with the ability to re-spec, and there are a LOT more choices in just how you can play now. More professions are actually a viable game choice, especially with the introduction of the hybrid clones... and now that logo abilities do some real damage.
Spies and Snipers aren't unplayable now, they just need to be played tactically. The game prior to 1.4 was pretty much EZmode; Spies could just run headlong into big groups and chop things up will-nilly. Likewise, Guardian staff weapons were able to kill things very quickly both in ranged and melee damage. Snipers could 1-shot everything. Now it's different and the players need to realise that it's no longer a case of "1 weapon fits all". Some advice I would offer to the Guardian/Spy/Sniper community who are having problems: Take another bloody weapon skill to pump 5. Staves are weapons with big single hits, great for some types of mobs (miasmas, low HP mobs that can be 1-shot) but they're primarily a defensive tanking weapon and not great for DPS. Blades are great for damage, but they rely on you being behind a target while not getting shot at, because you lose the advantage of cover and spies can't take much of a beating now. Likewise, Torqueshell rifles do a lot of damage when combined with other Sniper skills (target painting, for example) but if you're facing a large group of Bane then you will likely get overrun if you just use a torqueshell. Rage 3 + Firearms 5 or Chainguns 5 (+Shredder Ammo for Snipers) give excellent single-target DPS which also allows you the flexibility to use cover defensively.
Lets take a look at the EXCELLENT SINGLE TARGET DPS - my Sniper with Pump5 in Shredder, Target Paint, Crit and Firearms used to be able to drop a even level Stalker in a single shot - mind you that 3 Logos abilities stacked followed by a 4 sec shot - the whole sequence taking 20 secs to barely pull off while hoping the target is still in range by the time you fire. My sniper did 20-30k dmg that way with a purple rifle at lvl 32.
After the patch with the same exact build and nearly maxed crit attribute I am landing a 5000 dmg shot on the same Stalker and dieing 3 secs later. If I hit the Stalker at 80m he gets to me by the 3 shot and his armor / health regenerate to full by the time I get OMGWTFPWNED trying to kite. WTF kind of "tactics" am I supposed to use now ?
If you are going to "divorce" the dev team.. Divorce them and go on about your life.. No need in stalking them and their customers because you felt you were done wrong..
There is something to be said about warning prospective suitors that the object of their affection will eventually turn on them and bit them in the ass.
Face it - if they want to keep the paying punters they are going to have to stop *fixing* things that do not need love, stop trying to slow people's progress through the levels down, AND WORK ON TOP-END CONTENT!!!
FFS Content is king. If you don't have the chops to keep people online, paying ,and interested in wtf is going on - YOU FAIL
and if TR keeps on going in te direction it appears to be headded, we are looking at EPIC FAIL
Hell - I actually bought back into the damned game over the xmas break - now I log in, feel uber squishy with all my alts, burn far more cash on ammo than I am making by killing *stuff* and selling potatos to the vendors, and am generally having a hard time justifying logging in.
I'm v.close to hitting the cancel button on my sub and waiting to see if they ever get this out of pay-to-beta.
all in all, 1.4 is v.much june 2007 all over again, just not *quite* as annoyingly bad

By "Firearms" in the above example, I imagine you mean Torqueshell rather than the Recruit skill Firearms.
Your problem is that you're using a sniper rifle against a stalker and are specced full spirit, which gives you a slightly increased crit rate and the survivability of a chocolate gateaux in an american fat-camp.
As a sniper, the ideal weapon to use against a stalker is an EMP chaingun, with EMP shredder ammo, Target Painting 5 and Rage 3. Mine can drop a same-level stalker/strider without even breaking a sweat using a blue level 28 EMP chaingun and he's a Level 30 Brann hybrid with 131 Body, 128 Spirit, 10k Armour and 6.7k HP. I can do the same with a level 30 EMP pistol, but it takes a little longer.
I get the impression that the developers instead of concentrating on end game content have decided to make changes to slow the progression of the average player.
I guess they appreciate it will offend there experienced players with high level characters who prefer the previous faster paced game play but they probably presume most will eventually leave anyway when they get bored because there’s no end game content.
So by slowing the progression down for new or middle ranged players they can increase the duration of there subscription before they eventually reach max level and realize there’s no end game content.
It is not purely a monetary concern that is involved here, although it undeniably is an issue.
The developers noted a glaring problem with the game-play - it was too fast and too easy to rush through the content, ending up with nothing left to do. They have taken measures to address this. They have had to make a hard choice between those players who have already purchased that game and are at maximum level against those who are likely to purchase that game over the coming months.
If I were given this choice to make myself, I would concentrate on improving the experience for the new players, as they are where your future income is going to come from. It may seems callous, non-supportive, and basically disregarding those who have already run out of content to play with, but it is the best long-term decision in terms of giving yourself development time necessary to implement things properly, rather than in a rushed and botched manner. The hybrid system does feel like a little bit of a concession to help ameliorate the lack of "end-game" content, but it is there, it is functional, and most of all, it works and quite well at that.
I am not saying that Destination Games are completely writing off the current level 50 players, but with limited resources there are only so many area's on which you can focus at once. Choosing not to try and seriously satiate the power gamers is a brave and sensible move, even if it does lose you a little respect as a developer.
I really do not play this game. I tried it, but wasn't my cup of tea. This post is to point out that every MMO I have experienced or have read about has had patches that were hugely unpopular. One of my pet-peeves is class and profession nerfing to balance everything out. Truly, I am amazed that game developers haven't paid close attention to the forums after they "class balance" for the sake of PvP. Seems they would have ironed all this out during beta. As of yet, there hasn't been a game made yet that didn't nerf or change game play in some form or fashion.
Now, patching for bug extermination and overall game-playing improvement is very desirable, but to make a change in character skills or character profession, i.e. WoW nerfing of crafting at higher levels, is just not accetable.
Developers should "iron" out professions and character skills long before final release. This simply will make for a happier subscription base of players.

Yeah i stuck with TR all the way through, but after 1.4 there was no reason to continue to play. I mean i stuck with this game since the beggining. Forcing peeps to be in groups in order to play is kind of tough when you dont have a huge player base like a WoW, SwG, or FFX.
I hung'em up and deactivated my account a week ago, i wont bashed the game because i liked it while it was fun. There's just not enough content to hold you over after you hit even lvl 34 (just my opinion)., and now they made it hard to solo being i loved the sniper. So i do wish every one well and hope you all continue to enjoy the game. This Veteran here has to continue to wait for Aion 1st, and AoC 2nd.

I don't know whats wrong with the ppl who said that Spy is nerfed. As a spy I have more HP after 1.4 and I still 1hit most of the mobs with backstab. They nerfed the Linkers so I don't die at CP defence anymore. They nerfed my stealth armor... lol sure - the stealth is still good armor because the mobs prefer to hit the other players and I think that is much better than any amount of defence or regeneration. I rly don't know how is it with the other classes. The game was too soloable before 1.4(and the ppl was crying - "lol everything is so soloable, thats dumb") and after 1.4 it become more team play game(and the same ppl are crying now "lol I can't solo everything anymore /leave game").
The game is more balanced after 1.4. I 100% agree with the posts about the lack of patches with new content

Yes it can be done. It's not rocket science. Character revamps yes, as in skills upgrades and enhancements...NOT nerfing for PvP balancing.
Developers are intelligent enough to create characters that are balanced during beta. That's what beta is all about.

I dont know what the heck the dev's are trying to do, what direction their trying to take this game in. I've paid enough money for this game, and after 1.4 the game is drag me down slowwwww. Not to mention where the heck is all the high lvl content, i think that draged me down more than any thing else. I've 36 spy, 34 gaurdian, and a 45 sniper. I've tried to force my self to continue on with this game. Not any more, its not fun "for me" any more, and the pace is to slow. I think alot of people will see what the high lvl people are talking about once you get there.
Dont get me wrong, like i said i liked TR and it "was" very very fun for me, but slowing the pace down, forcing you to group, and a lack of high lvl content was enough to make me push the cancel button. I was really really hoping that TR could hold me over until Aion, and AoC.
For every one else enjoy the game, remember every one has a right to voice there opinion, and we all see things different. Just because we all dont agree, or we have different prospectives, that does not mean that any of us are wrong and should be crusified for the way we see things.
Happy Gaming all.

How is this topic still alive? Sage it, let it die!
I've had enough of this "veteran" crap; the game's hardly been out 3 months and there are supposedly droves of wounded blokes crawling away from it.
Tabula Rasa's former inhabitants have no right to call themselves veterans (unless they actually are in real life, God bless them in that case); at least until the game is one year old. Sorry, (un)official rules, that's how it works.
Grouping for instances was great, but i had the option to go alone carefully and dont have to care when i need a bio or the tele rings.
In my eyes this was a bad desicion.
But you could sense it, the changes in TR are not like
minor balances after beta testing, its more like
alpha testing..Devs went:*Lets try this,,er no kay lets try that..erm no* and so on
just the right way to drive away your players if they dont stop this major changes

So I am still playing. Lvl 32 Exobiologist with one instance left to do on incline, and only parts of Mires and Incline done.

Well, I posted earlier that I likes the game. I still do, the general core concept of the game.
But the pace is just too slow for my liking now.(I mentioned it earlier too) I tried to adapt but meh, there are other games.
It feels too much like playing my Hunter from WoW now.

So, Mr. Genius...

You really think that in beta, with perhaps 5000 players actually involved in the game, you can truly "iron" out all professions and skills for every conceivable playstyle, mentality, and attitude - especialy when most of your testers aren't representative of the potential playerbase? As in, they are there not for the free ride but to actually push the game's capabilities?

Ya, I thought not.

Just remember this before you spout this kind of pious nonsense again: It's always easy to *say* a solution to a problem, not so easy to *DO* it.

In fables this is called the "WHo'll bell the cat?" issue.

QUite frankly, what you say here is impossible. All MMOs, due to their constantly changing nature, have character revamps/retunes, gameplay mechanics revisions, etc. Hell, even WoW's gone through about 20 of these revvisions/tweaks due to players finding various things that were "unintended". Don't believe me? Look at their archived patch notes. Same with other games as well...

What you ask is simply not possible, even for a lot of single-player games with a MP component.

Sum total, for the TLDR types: Ya, Try doing that sometime. When you actually DO accomplish it, put it out int he Real World. Learn your lesson.

I 100% agree with the posts about the lack of patches with new content
the naysayers tried to warn you people of this auto assault remake
but nobody listened.

Becuase they were wrong?
How is this topic still alive? Sage it, let it die!
I've had enough of this "veteran" crap; the game's hardly been out 3 months and there are supposedly droves of wounded blokes crawling away from it.
Tabula Rasa's former inhabitants have no right to call themselves veterans (unless they actually are in real life, God bless them in that case); at least until the game is one year old. Sorry, (un)official rules, that's how it works.
aha
good i smelled this and left soon enough
((also at lvl 30))
One of the unique feel of TR
WAS that i dont have to hack/shoot mobs
minutes like in other mmorpgs.
Hit, kill, run, dodge, hide, recover etc..
theý die or me..but all within seconds,
all in a fast pace.
