AMD And Intel pcu speeds

I know this is kind of a newb question but I am a newbie when it comes to pr ratings and Intel vs amd pc clock speeds. So with that said (Is an AMD Athlon 64 XP 5000+ 2.6ghz as fast as an intel P4 3.0 ghz?) Thanks in advance to any responses.

There is more to a processor then just speed. A P4 with 3.0 ghz will probably perform as good or worse then an AMD 5000+. Also it depends on generation because the manufacturing process continues to get better. Like a 5000+ from 3 years ago will perform worse then a 5000+ now. Here is a small breakdown of processing power by naming convention excluding special scenarios like single threaded games.
