Ive been gaming for about 4 1/2 years and i need some guidance
Ive been from RuneScape
MapleStory
Knights Online
Guild Wars
Rappelz
Note these are games ive played for a period of time, I've tried and played countless others..
My most recent being maplestory that games is over for me, nexon screwed everything up and i am looking for a new game...have been for about 2 weeks and it just seems like there is no other games out there for me. I was thinking about playing Wow jsut afraid of how it'll effect me socially..don't wanna live i9n my parents basement till Im 20..
So is your gaming spark dying?
Everyone is looking for the perfect MMORPG and it just doesn't exist as much as we want it to be

Why is it that people start to get depressed and what-not if they find themselves bored of gaming?
Same thing with these "Are MMOs dying?", "All games suck" Threads ... really, what does it matter - if it's not fun anymore, why bother and try so hard to hang on?
There are so much more cool things one can do - sports, arts, not to mention girls ^^
Dont really see the issue here...
Mine isn't really dead but its on hiatus. I am currently waiting for AoC and WAR. PvP is my thing and these are the 2 games promising lots of it, plus i was a huge fan of DAoC so i trust mythic. Imo you should download some free trials for some of the latest mmo's right now. EQ2, LOTRO, DAoC, CoX...any of those might grab your interest. Give them a try and see how you like them.
you should quit now that you can
Alright i haven't really seen any other threads like mine but yes i do get sick of this game is dying etc..
I don't know gaming for so long it just feels like its a part of me..might sound wierd but gaming has grown with and to me.
Thanks for the helpful reply
I'm sorry to see you've been playing so many horrible games.

I've been playing different mmos since Everquest launched in 1999
- I'm still having fun and will try the new games
but EQ2 keeps me happy for now

Quit now. There's nothing truly revolutionary on the horizon anyway. You can always pick them up in 5, 10 years when they have advanced into new territory.
Seriously though, don't waste your high school and college years in front of a computer. Go to a gym, get in shape, hang out with girls, get good grades, go to a good college, repeat.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Here's a bit of advice.
I tend to get into ruts. These ruts are anything from watching a specific movie(s), or playing a certain game, or reading, or something like that almost nonstop for quite sometime.
After awhile I start to feel bad, depressed somehow. Like I am just sick of everything. What happens is that my happy rut starts to become mundane, but I am still stuck in it not realizing that my happy rut went sour.
Change up what you do when this happens, and eventually you will find yourself coming back around to your original rut and it will be a happy one again.
It works for me.
LOL i have never seen so many angry gamers in my life and I can't believe i have to explain myself to get some good answers.
Im fit and I've been doing Muay Thai Kickboxing for 5 years
I had a girlfriends for 4 years and that going smooth
My social life is normal and i hangout with my friends over computers
I live in Australia and over here we can go to a thing called TAFE and our life isn't screwed if we don't go to college. Alright.
Now that you have my lifestory Jokes...
And by my game list i do not want a state of the art game i don't care about graphics at all...

Thats it so now ive been more detailed maybe i can get a better answer.
I don't want to wait 8 years to play a game or a next gen engine jsut enjoying being a kid.
Time you enjoyed wasting isn't wasted time.
I am a gamer and i will die a gamer.
But if you're losing your spark and have only played thoses games, you really need to try new games out haha!
Playing: Everthing
Played: DAoC,AC2,EvE,SWG,WAR,MXO,CoX,EQ2,L2,LOTRO,SB,UO,WoW.
I have played every MMO that has ever come out.
Sometimes they even say as much IN THE SAME POST. Doublethink, still alive and well!
Its a really polished game, its easy to pick up and get into, its a lot of fun, the quests are great. Is it revolutionary? Nah. Certainly not any more. But its a ton of fun, you can play for 15 minutes, an hour, 6 hours, and you won't get bored. Its a great game.
Don't expect to be with it forever, but its worth playing.

I'm in good shape, I already have a "girl" (known as my wife) who's a size 2 Irish lady that would make you stop breathing until it became uncomfortable the first time you saw her by virtue of her beauty. Which isn't bad for a lady of 45 years age.
Grades are shite. I work with a lot of college guys, many of them got canned today. I'm still earning in the top 5% of Americans...
Being a nanny is shite. Once you're done at the gym, have your lady, have your grades, then what? Work all day then watch History Channel? Hello?
I don't know how it is where you live, but in America we tend to have a lot of spare time. I mean, even after the 60 hour work week. What do you suggest we do with it?
The OP is correct, the gaming is dying. Why? Because it's the same old shite. 40 man raids, 20 man raids, etc.
Normal people want to play with their wife, or their friend. The whole game. All the way to the end without having to hang out with a bunch of retrograde losers.
MMORPG is dying. It's time the gamespace realized the new era, normal people.
My gaming spark is stronger than ever, and always increase (except maybe when I was chain-design and forced to, this kinda slow it, temporarily).
However, I am wiser...or less a fool.
25 years ago I have no doubt I could have spent the afternoon with PONG only. ATM, no current MMO hold my interest, but have no doubt, my presence here is saying very strongly, that the spark is indeed a storm.
I suppose the same is happening to you.

It's not a spark anymore, it's a fucking rain of fire.
I had a short period when I played nothing, but then I found EVE-online and now I'm hooked..
No.
I'm not looking for the perfect MMOG, so that ruins your "everyone" theory.
Stop looking for perfection. Embrace the simple things that give you pleasure. When you find that a game isn't living up to your epxectations move on to another one and stop blaming the entire concept of gaming for your overblown expectations.
That's my advice.

Telling a teenager that grades and college don't matter is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard, getting good grades means getting into a good college so you can get a good career there is nothing Shite about that.
Heck even if you want to go into a trade (which is where the real money is these days since there seems to be a lack of good trades people these days) who are they going to take as an apprentice the 18 year old with the D average or the 18 year old with the A average?
As for the gaming spark dieing been playing games for about 30 years now and while the spark does wain from time to time. It always there in the background! There is more to life than gaming don't be afraid to go outside and see the world from time to time the games will always be there waiting for you .
And anyone who tells you to ignore your grades is a
OMG, you HAVE to be kidding here. A college degree is mandatory, and NO, you don't need a Masters or higher in many fields. Good luck getting a software engineering job without a college degree. If you somehow manage to get one, most companies won't pay you anywhere near what the college grads are getting paid. I've been an SE for over 10 years and seen almost 0 phd's. Very few grads had their masters, and that only helped them get a slightly (very slight) starting salary. In computer land, experience is everything.
You can easily make 100k+ a year with a 4 year degree in CS (computer science).
What you're experiencing is burnout even though you have a RL outside of gaming. Some people just have a lower tolerance level for monotny than others (which is a good thing). The reason you're burned out is because part of you wants to continue gaming while another part of you knows that most of the games out there are nothing more than clones of each other. The only thing really different about them is their graphics. Given that ,you are in the uneviable position of playing yet another clone or not playing at all. So here's my two cents worth. Stop playing for a month or two or three. One of two things will happen. You'll remember what you enjoyed about gaming and start playing again or you'll realize that it really sucks and you'll move on to other things. Either way you win.
I'm 29 and have been a gamer for around 15 years.
I first got into MMO's with UO back when it first came out; played a few; primarily SWG, EvE, WoW and am currently playing Tabula Rasa. I wouldn't say that my gamer spark isdying at all, but it is getting a tad duller.
My problem is that MMO's used to be a niche market for the early online gamers but they're evolving in a way that I'm not too happy with. A poster above mentioned 40 man/20 man raids (which typically last 3-4 hours) and this type of thing seems to be indicative of the MMO's of today; they are designed to require:
1. A massive time-sink in order to be competitive.
2. Protracted periods of uninterrupted play time.
3. Dumbed down "commercialised" content aimed at the poorer-skilled players, which leave the higher-skilled players frustrated at the lack of difficulty.
Like the majority of gamers my age, I've a life outside games. I work, have a social life and as such I get to spend around 10-15 hours a week on games, and these days it's increasingly starting to feel like I'm not the target audience for MMO's anymore.
