Hey guys, I've been looking for an MMO to call home since I left EVE, mostly for personal reasons. Since then I've been looking around for a good, deep MMO in which I can get a strong sense of community. Basically, I'm looking for:
1. A game in which I can have some sort of impact. I want to feel like I'm actually changing the persistant world not because of my uber power level, but because of my actions.
2. As I said, a strong community with even stronger levels of inner community which I can join in (one that is mature as well)
3. Some sort of combat system that is, at miminum, at least a bit more then the simple *point, click, spam attack*.
4. A dedicated development team.
5. Over all, a game that is unique in it's own right.
-----------------------------------------------
Things I'm Not looking for:
1. Tedious and boring grind
2. No player economy at all.
3. Bland/Similar characters.
4. Reliance on constant questing.
5. An "easy" game.
------------------------------------------
Things not important:
1. Pricing
2. Setting (fantasy or sci-fi doesn't matter to me)
3. Graphics
4. Size of community (I don't care if lots of people play or not, I'm happy with a strong community)
Just as I side note: I've played the following MMO's and enjoyed them:
FOM (beta), Neocron 1 & 2, EVE, Ultima online.
If anyone can help me, it would be really great

Yea, Ryzom could have been your game, sad that the future of the game doesn't seem very good... I think The Chronicles of Spellborn (TCoS) which will be officialy released in Q1 2008 if it is not delayed could be your game too. Get info about it I am sure u will like it. Many people are just feeling like you do regarding MMOs today, including me. I hope we can find our game soon
FFXI has a strong community since you are pretty much required to group. It fits most of your requirements except it has similar characters and I can't guarantee you'll like the grind.
No reliance on questing. Not considered an easy game. Unique in its own right. More involved than point and click combat. Dedicated dev team. Can change the world by "conquest" and the new expansion with time traveling is also said to change the current time by actions done by players in the past.
Have you considered A tale in the desert? www.atitd.net It has a relitivly small adult player base , and is not for the intellectually challanged . It is unlike any other game that is urrently out there. Everyone knows everyone in this game , even the developers are constantly involved in the events of the game and play a key role . There is no game guide , no easy set of rules to follow , We as a communtiy have to discover how things work , Here is the wiki sight whih might give you a better insight into the game . http://wiki.atitd.net/tale3/Home This game has a free 24 hour trial , but I suggest trying for at least a month . In the begininning one can spend a lot of time creating a compound for themselves to work out of , and be somewhat tedious at first . But this game does have what you seek , you can impact the game , and the world around you . Players have the abolity to create laws that get voted on , and the developers will write those laws into the game . They also vote for Demi-Pharoahs , real players who then , once elected , will have the power to ban other players from the game. This game is very sandbox , and so many different areas to pursue, wine making , gem cutting , art , chemistry , building , cooking, You could never do it all . One thing also unique to this game , it does have an ending , once players have met the goals that have been set before them , the game ends , and then will restart with a blank canvas , no game guilde , and players have one again to work again to pursue a somewhat perfect society.
There is no combat in this game , but that does not mean we dont fight among ourselves , There are social cliques , and we do argue , but on a more adult social level.
