Anything different?

The problem I c with this game is they are not doing too much diff with it. The faq's say we will be doing traditional fantasy this or that. For this game to be viable and esp with the amount of fantasy MMo's already out and the future ones coming soon why not blow us away with creative or cool races and classes?

I dunno guys but it just looks like they are doing the same o same o, and for this game to be competitive they really need to blow us away.......I just don't c it. I'm not ragging on the game here im sure it will fill its "traditional" mmo role good.

But im only gona play 1 fantasy mmo, and im sure alot of peeps will only play 1 as well.

I just want something that would really introduce new stuff.......kinda like david allens vision for horizons before he got his company taken from him.

They have hinted alot about some new ideas they have. We know there will be one land mass, but they are shooting for three. There are rumors one will have a more oriental feel (there are lots of rumors). They are being very tight lipped about their advanced combat systems, and they say they have found a way to solve many of the problems that instancing solves without using instancing. Basically, we won't find out about a bunch of their new ideas until much closer to release. Brad knows very well how good SOE is at adopting popular features into their games, and he doesn't want his new features coming out until Vanguard ships.

Things we do know is the game will have all the little things EQ had that other games just seem to leave out, and much more. It appears there will be no zoning, even when going into dungeons. And the game will have an amazing clip plane. It is also using the best gaming engine on the market, and will be the first game to feature Microsoft's new XNA system.

Anyway, don't look for Brad and company to just put out an EQ clone. He created the real thing, and I don't see him being satisfied with a clone. But he won't be afraid to take what EQ did right and improve on it.

An Interview with Brad that is kind of recent (June).

The good news is that we’re already at around 35 people, and we’ve only started this new growth. But what does it mean? Well, obviously we’re going to have more continents to explore and adventure and craft in than just Thestra. We’ve already begun work on the art assets (the design has been there, although more and more details come every day) for two new continents, and more will start very soon. The first of these continents is another starting continent called Qalia. I can’t say much about it right now, other than that it’s very visually distinct from Thestra in terms of architecture, environment, inhabitants, etc. And, as you and others have surmised by our mentioning of Thestra Humans specifically, at least one of the playable races there is the Qalian Human, though the others will be more distinct. The second continent already underway is called Lothenland, which is a higher level non-starting continent, and other than to say it’s also very visually distinct as we are very explorer-centric here at Sigil, we won’t be saying much more about Lothenland for quite some time (don’t want to spoil things, do we?).

I wouldn’t expect a lot of the 3rd gen mmog ideas to be releases till they hit beta.   But do not expect them to promote crazy ideas that have no real chance of making it into game.   So what are kind of gameplay/races/classes are you looking for?

Actualy DAoC and AO are the same generation as EQ, AC and Lin.  Generations in MMORPGs don't refer to the engines, but more to the environment, skill sets and such.

So in that reguard, I belive everygame that came out before SWG was 1st Generation, and most games after are 2nd generation games.  And the Vanguards and other games that are still early development are the 3rd Generation MMORPG's.  It has alot to do with the interactivity of the game world form the players.

For example, in AO, EQ, AC etc, the only direct impact the players had on the game were how often they killed a spawn.  They didn't influence anything else in the world per say.

Now in games like SWG and such that came out, the players had more interaction and effect on things.  ie.  Player Housing, Cities, involved PvP and quests that directed the course of the game story arc.  (for real, not the stuff they promised in AC really, although some of those worked...sometimes) basicly they have refined how to control the uncontrolable of offer the illusion of control.  Quests done in town effected how the town worked and such.

Now the 3rd Generation (as promised by Sigil) is supposed to be even more so.  Details I know not, but supposedly players can effect and influence laws and rulers or some sort, perform quests and such for them.  Housing, cities, mounts etc...but something more I guess we will find out later.  Im curious thats for sure :)

And feel free to correct me on anything as I thought most of this up as I typed it image   image

Also, when people speak of the generation of MMORPGs, they are usually speaking of 3d MMORPGs (although UO is popular enough that it is often squeezed in there).
