Can this game survive AoC, Warhammer, and Spellborn?

It's no secret that Vanguard is on life support currently and has very low subscription numbers. A lot of people will be playing the three new releases I mentioned, including some current Vanguard players.

It's not other mmorpgs that are going to be the problem but the support it gets from SOE, or lack of which is most likely to be the case.

It's hardly surviving without AoC, WAR, or TCOS.

Since I'm not a PvP fan the only game on that list that even seems remotely interesting is AoC.  Believe it or not I think there is a market for PvE players and seems to me that VG is really the only modern game that is of interest in this space now or in the near future...

Are vanguard numbers that low? I thought it was pretty healthy, at least it seems so to me. Is TR or PoTBS doing any better? I know PoTBS isn't for sure.

Without supporting the gay community i don't know how vanguard can survive, even though i play it.

Does anyone have a link that shows the current earnings for Vanguard for the past year?  That would tell you quite a bit about is current state of affairs monetarily.  Other than that most of these posts are speculating on it's demise.

From what I gather, it's doing very well and growing.  Those of you that play can verify this for me.  I, for one will be returning as soon as I find a guild that will take lower level players.

Anyway, I really doubt that AoC and Warhammer is going to change the player base much, as the ones that play are very dedicated, and I would be very glad to meet them in game.

I find the state of the game as stable with a healthy and steady influx of people who are staying. The guild I am in on the Halgar server has recently reached maximum recruits and is not taking in any new members for the foreseeable future if that is any indication. Travelling across the continents I encounter travellers, adventures, crafters and diplomats in most every place I visit, prior to December this was not the case. Many folks have returned and are pleased with the state of the game; also new people are joining at a steady rate and liking the challenge. Some are finding it difficult however due to the games complexity, but that is the games charm…some may like it – others won’t. Some people prefer playing a good game of chess, others a game of checkers.

For those who have not tried it yet and don’t want to invest economically yet, I’d recommend waiting for the free trial island to become available – which shouldn’t be too long in coming. Otherwise if you can’t wait, enjoy an intellectual challenge rather than being spoon fed…and you have a descent rig to run it, you should give it a try…you might find it very rewarding.

SOE's station pass skews these numbers anyway, so earning statements wouldn't really be enlightening. I'd bet there are as many people logging into VG through station pass as log in through a VG sub.

I was back in December and the population seemed a bit higher than when I left in September. But it was a free period for nearly 200k people who purchased the game at launch. Unless the people on the free ride had a much better comeback experience than I did, I doubt they forked over the cash for a new sub.

I will probably give them $15 after GU4 (provided the character model revamp goes live with GU4) IF SOE provides some insight as to where they plan to take the game in the future. I have to say that the enhancements to the Riftway system don't sound appealing to my taste, and if the new "vision" is more changes of this ilk, I know for sure the game will never be for me.

Their defensive posturing has not helped them any since they took this game over. If they want VG to appeal to a different demographic, they should just state it clearly and go out and attack those players. Then again, I suppose the electricity would be off by next week if they made that statement officially. Nah, they will contine to dose players with small patches that hint at a change of direction and let them bitch about it for a couple weeks until the next small tremer comes, and eventually people will wake up and log into a different game altogether.

Anyway, I really doubt that AoC and Warhammer is going to change the player base much, as the ones that play are very dedicated, and I would be very glad to meet them in game.

I used to believe that AoC and WAR wouldn't attract players from VG as well. However, now I believe that unless SOE makes some huge strides (and they probably won't) before AoC and WAR launch, VG players will probably bail just to check them out. The PvP server will almost assuredly be a ghost town, as there are entire guilds on Sartok just waiting for AoC and WAR to launch. Who knows if those players will return to VG or not. I guees it depends on AoC and WAR.

I think vanguard will still limp along, but I think at best it will attain EQ2 numbers. While EQ2 is actually a productive member of the MMO community now, it will never be "big." I feel the same way about vanguard. SOE has surrounded itself with enough mediocre games to keep it afloat, and that's about it.

TCOS is a pve game with PVP just like AOC is. They are planing Shard conquests at a later date but its mainly a pve game. Perhaps you need to read up on it some more.

You might want to go have a good look at some of the video's and beta leaks for AOC and WAR , both games look pretty boring as far as combat goes I cant stand WOW and i would  rather watch my son play a  WSG or a AB than watch a vid from either of those bore fests And spellborn isnt going to appeal to the person who likes vanguard

So honestly i dont see any of these 3 games hurting anybody , in fact i think even the people playing WOW are going to prefer its pvp to AOC or WAR  Both games look terrible so far from what ive seen

Vanguard is growing all the time its a dam fine game

Yes Vanguard will survive.  It now has a core subscriber base that is not going to leave.  It may not gain too many new subs but it certainly is not going to decrease from it's current level.

It will survive even if any of the new games are any good.  I doubt any new game will be any good if it does not come from Blizzard however.

    The short answer-

WAR will do nothing to Vangaurd, but AoC is gonna completely destroy it.

AoC is a heavily PvP oriented game with a different playing style directed towards players that want that  particular style of gameplay...though AoC is turning out to be a great game it will unlikely be everyone's cup of tea.

I've played VG, not for very long but still, and I've now beta'd AoC for quite some time. I can without any doubt say that AoC is a piece of shit, worse than Vanguard ever was and before you Conbois start screaming 'OMG it's still in beta!!11oneone', I say bullshit. AoC has design flaws that would require a complete overhaul to fix.

I have no idea how WAR works, but AoC won't even make a dent to Vanguard subs numbers.

EDIT: to above poster, currently AoC has no PvP.

No PvP?  Where did you hear that man?  AoC has both the border kingdoms and PvP/FFA servers.

Plus if AoC fails, I will have completely lost hope in MMORPG's.

Didn't you hear? AoC is shit. Everyone knows that. Everyone says that. Particularly those who hear it from a friend in Beta, and those supposedly being in Beta, breaking the NDA. *smirk* It's really funny to see so many different comments floating around regarding the state of the game, from glowing to pure hatred. I'd advise anyone not to listen to anyone claiming to have any insider information and just keep a neutral approach to the game until it comes out and then see what it's all about. These constant extreme posts (on both ends of the scale) are slowly beginning to seriously irritate me.
