Hey guys. I'm a bit worried about my aging PC that I built a little over 3 years ago.
Specs:
P4 2.8ghz w/ HyperThreading
nVidia Geforce 6800LE w/ 256mb (AGP)
1gb pc133 ram
I still have a ram spot open and was wondering if I should pick up another 512mb or ram or not. Should I even worry or should I just upgrade. I do plan on getting a laptop soon with:
P Duo Core 2.2ghz || Geforce 8600M w/ 256mb GDDR3 || 3gb DDR2 ram
So, my question is, can my current computer run it and if yes, will the extra ram really make a significant difference? I think it can and will just wondering also if the minimum specs have been posted yet.
Thanks!
If a man does his best, what else is there?

I am planning to uppgrade my graphic card and 4gb ram for this game. One thing i have learned is that you can never have enugh memory. Your comp might run aoc but that will not be a nice experiance since you will suffer from lagg and might not even be able to participate in raids with it. If you allredy have 2*512 i dont think another one would make a big diffrence, if you got 1* 1024 i would uppgrade with another after trying the game. That is if you only suffer from minor lagg and long loading times, els its no point to uppgrade. Your graphic card is not good enugh imo. Laptops is not good for gaming. I had a monster laptop for wow and after 5-6 houers it got really hot even with laptop cooler and after a while i could not even play with it anymore. Maby if you get a dell xps but they are exspensive and if you get vista i recommend 4gb ram.
Your processor is not even a dualcore one
You lack memory and the one you got is slow
Your graphics card is very old and it's the budget version of the 6800 series + It's AGP (old and slow)
It wont be able to run AoC, on lowest settings though but it will still not run well even then.
(sounded a little agressive but it's not meant that way :P)
Get a dualcore processor, amd athlon 64 x2 6400+
Get -atleast -2Gbs of RAM (PC6400)
Get a 8800GT card with 512mbs memory
500W+ power supply
That's a cheap and very good computer and the prices on hardware has gone down A LOT. I would never buy a pre-built computer from dell of anything btw.
Hey Shack67, your PC will run AoC on a lower setting, but it will still run it. Thats just my opinion though. Ram is really cheap right now $20 for 1gb for your type. I would get another 1gb if possible then judge how it works with the game then you can make further decisions
This site does not work properly. Things like: "upgrade" 8800 GTS 640MB to 6600, missing over a terabyte of storage, and incorrect detection of multiple sound/video cards, talk for themselves.
Just wait till June/July (after the game releases) and upgrade if you feel you need it.
However, yes you need to upgrade big time or what I recommend. Buy a new computer, because upgrading from what you have now could become complicated. Some hardware from this computer might strangle the upgrade to a lower performance.
AOC graphics arn't good you know i mena look at Crysis and then wonder why the system requirements for this game will be sooo high when the graphics are like 2003 standards.
AOC graphics are amazing but no one can see it in game because they haven't even released high res clinet for even those lucky enough to beta test. The trailers alone are impressive, can't wait to see it on my machine.

Buy qvad kor 7890643 Ghz wtih GUP 9900 end 230 GB RAM DRD 6 vindovs 7, only gazzilion dollers!!1
about $500 will get you a good low-end machine, $1000 for a mid-range $2000 for a high-range and $too much$ for a top-o-the-line.
Good low end:

Good Mid-Range

If you want to spend more $ then go for it, but those machines are good for the money.
I'm not sure about prices in the USA and overseas countries but the system I had written up will cost me about $950 excluding delivery.
Here is the list of parts:
CPU - 5200+ AMD Processor (dual core 64)
MOBO - Gigabyte GA-M565
RAM - Corsair twinx 2GB
GPU - Leadtek PX8800GT (512MB RAM)
HDD (SATA) - Seagate 320GB
PSU - Antec 550W PSU (will allow for some upgrades in the future. will run current setup fine though)
You can also get the Asus m2n-sli if you want a SLI mobo.
You will notice little or no difference between the cpu's from 5200 - 6400. Same with the core2duo and amd. The core2duo will run faster than the AMD though. But this is a bang for your buck PC build.
You can choose a different nvidia card. Though the leadtek was the best one for price in the online stores I go to. Nothing wrong with the new ATI cards though, they will consume more power than the nvidia ones, and run a bit slower.
I chose a seagate barracuda HDD because that is the fastest HD in the online store, and western digital can't match it from what I know. If you want a different one go for western digital as that is the second best option.
The hardware I recommended is not the best on the market, not even close to it. The pieces I recommended are the minimum you should get when buying a new PC today because the prices has gone down tremendously.
You want the best on the market? try something closer to:
8800Ultra 768mb
4+Gbs of 1800mhz ram
Inte core 2 quad extreme QX9650
AOC graphics are amazing but no one can see it in game because they haven't even released high res clinet for even those lucky enough to beta test. The trailers alone are impressive, can't wait to see it on my machine.
Crysis was actually made by CryTek
My old desktop has similar specs and it is old technology as well - whether or not you like it, and whether you do it now or later, youre going to have to upgrade your PC or buy a new one. The tech is simply too old, and I would suggest if youre savy with computers building your own complete with new shell, power supply, motherboard etc.
If you dont have any problems with not running it on max settings, like me, or have a budget, like me, you can easily get a nice mid range desktop for 1000 - 1300 and it will be able to run AoC fine. Your laptop specs seem alot like mine currently, and yes your laptop with those specs will be able to run AoC on lower settings. However if you are not computer savy, believe it or not buying a mid range desktop may actually be cheaper than building your own. Looking for bargain coupons or prices and deals should save you some cash and you should still be able to get a decent computer that will last 2 years or so.
Getting a nice 3.0ghz Intel duo core, 2gig of ram for your desktop and a modest 512mg Geforce video card (along with all the other bananas) should do the trick perfectly, and that shouldnt push you over 1500. Adding an extra gig of ram or two imo wont make that big of a difference if youre not running alot of programs at once. I would never multitask while playing graphic and CPU intesive video games. Closing all running background programs will help you maximize your RAM output.
Your specs for your laptop also scream mid range and are again similar to mine, and I believe my laptop will be able to run AoC with a cooling pad. Granted, it wont be on max settings but hey - at least you'll be able to run it.
