Before the update, you didn't have to if you were a pker or a pvp fan. But now you have to, since there are only few quests to do and there really isn't much to do anymore in f2p. If you want to get a lot more out of the game, being a member makes it much funner.
It isn't worth it now to become a member, you have the duel arena and bounty hunter in f2p and in members all you will gain is more npc quests and more grinding .. is that really worth paying for?
aparently yes u have to be a mem for RS to be fun because when ur not a mem u cannot do the fun stuff like hunting,fletching,farming,construction.etc. And when ur not a mem u can do so little stuff that i already got bored and am becoming a mem
Runeshit is a horrible MMO and is a blight on the genre, which leads to the generalization that MMO's suck, which in the case of "that which shall not be named" it is true, ask anyone who has played the game and moved on, lol and these were people that were members I mean they play "GOOD" games now.
I only hope the MMO genre can recover from the stain of... "IT".

yeah recent updates have fucked f2p's out of everything
i think you can have fun with f2p but you are very limited; you cant do hunter, construction and a lot of member skills.

I wouldn't pay for it just because Jagex is a bad model company
