Hey, I just ordered this game, and living in New Zealand it cost me NZD 100 bucks, I was after having followed this game closely for sometime keenly awaiting my chance to play it. However after having checked out mmorpg I find that most the feedback on the game seems to be fairly negative. Should I cancel my order? I mean I was just looking for something other than WoW which frankly bored me, namely the genre so I had rather hoped that this would be something different. All the forums on the PotBS website, although suggest some improvements to be made to the player economy seem happy with the outcome of the came so far. Any ideas?
Would be much appreciated

Wow, so you spent ~$80 USD on it? My exchange rate could be wrong, but if it isn't... cancel your order. There isn't an MMO out right now that's worth 80 bucks for the game and 30 days of playtime >.>
Hmmm well i dont think the exchange rate is quite that bad. I think we're like .70 of you guys or something so its probably more like 60 US dollars... But yeah. I dont know i really wanna play this game though

There are pleanty of people out there who are enjoying this game, including me. I would do some more reading on it if you feel inclined, but the only way you will know if you like it is if you try it. This forum is not a good place to go for an opinion on this game or anyother game. I mainly read these forums for the entertainment value.
Cancel your order... thats just my opinion, the game isnt worth playing...
Played almost everything...
Currently playing nothing...
Waiting for: Darkfall, WAR, Guild Wars 2.
Indeed... Cancel it, its not worth even the 50 bucks... My advise is to get a friend account and play a little, 3 weeks at least, before buying it. If you can do it, cancel it.
I bet you're in the same situation as me, you WANT to play an MMO but you're bored of your old ones and theres nothing new really so you're trying them all...
I wasted 300 dollars recently just trying to find a good MMO for my self, I failed.
Played almost everything...
Currently playing nothing...
Waiting for: Darkfall, WAR, Guild Wars 2.
If you really want to play it, go on ahead, it definately offers a differnent setting from what any other has offered before. Some things to know, and ill try to be as objective as i can:
1. Heavily instanced, really everything but the travel world, and the cities are instanced.
2. Ship combat is actually quite fun, there are diff. ammos that damage different aspects of the enemy ship (hull, crew, sails). You can sink, or board.
3. Avatar customization is pretty good, not quite as good as City of Heroes but most likely 2nd most customization.
4. Avatar combat: currently it does i hate to admitt cuz i really wanted to love the game, but as much as i loved it avatar combat was clunky and repetetive.
5. Faction competition for ports is cool, battles are instanced still.
6. Economy entirely player driven, and can take some good collaboration to make the big stuff.
7. Populations arent quite what was expected, though some servers offer good solid numbers.
8. World travel can be tedious, but if you keep a ship in the important places you can teleport between 3 places.
9. Different factions, but i honestly can say there really isnt a whole lot of differences between the skills. Though the pirates ability to comandeer a abandoned ship is well neat.
10. Graphics are solid, not mind blowing, but good smooth graphics, and i dont recall lag being an issue.
If you can think of any more questions drop a reply, i can post again or edit mine to add more info. The game as far as my opinion goes is fun if u like the pirate thing. Gameplay started feeling a little repetive, but the economy is fun, auction system is well set up, and graphics are good w/o needing a serious machine. Hope it helps.
Hey thanks heaps guys for helping out. Hmm yeah i am in the boat in which i want a new mmo. Im so sick of WoW. Mind you I found WoW very repetitive to, I guess i was just hoping the change of setting would maybe stop me noticing that missions in these types of games are always the same. As for repetitive avatar combat I expected that, however hoped that the ship to ship combat would rather make up for that. Maybe I should wait for age of conan? But thats so far away i just dont know if i can be bothered. It is still a relatively new game, and according to the devoloper log that took place today, there's lots of improvements to be made. I think if i get it and it keeps me interested as something to play on the side until Age of Conan I'll be happy.

You will most probably get bored of PotBS within a week, like me....
Anyway... Wait for AoC, or WAR... which ever one you like.
Till then go ahead and give the free LOTRO trial a shot, try EVE aswell... you might find LOTRO fun for the 3 months maybe more.... and then AoC comes out
Played almost everything...
Currently playing nothing...
Waiting for: Darkfall, WAR, Guild Wars 2.
If I were you I would Cancel the order, this game is crap and I would never pay that much money on this game. This game is not even worth 30$ retail or 1 year subscription plan if they planned on that to lure people into it.
mmorpg's flop faster then mcdonalds cheese burgers these days.
Yeah i bought lotro and got bored of that pretty quick as well. Oh well guess ill just have to wait. Sigh

Try EVE, free 15 day trial unlimited amounts of stuff to do. Its a fun game and can definetely hold your attention till AOC, it is for me.
On the non MMORPG front if you like FPS's i suggest COD4, Crysis, Gears of war and most importantly BIOSHOCK. Also there is World in conflict, great team based RTS. Non of these are mmo's but they will definetely hold your attention longer than POTBS IMO atleast.
Lick Here you could be one of the lucky 10!!!
Yeah i have all those games on xbox, asides from crysis obviously. Hmm okay then. Wow no one really seems to like this game

Cancel it and download Pirates of the Carribean - it's free to download, free to play, and the ship combat is actually better designed and more fun than PotBS.....
When scary things get scared, that's bad...
Right... So no one has anything positive to say about this game then really do they? Ah well. Cant be helped i guess... Thanks a lot guys, and maybe girls.

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
- no orcs or elves!
- more skill based than level based -- a level 20 player can sometimes beat ships of up to level 50, and conversely, even a couple of level 10's can threaten you! Your ship and your skills are way more important than level.
- ship combat is true to the sailing world -- ie, ships move slowly, fire at regular intervals, and have to worry about the wind. It is more like slow motion fighting, compared to City of Heroes and most other MMO's. You DO have to steer the ship, unlike Eve.
- the economy is more like an RTS, with structures producing things on a time table. All the good stuff is player made, and no single player can make it all. You have to collaborate, or play the market in the Auction House.
- very PvP centered -- players create PvP zones, and if you lose a fight in one, you lose your ship. This makes for more demand for ships, and only players make the good ships.
Not everyone will like it, as evidenced in these forums, but there are plenty of people who are actually playing it and having fun

Sweet. Finally some positive feed back. Okay so I'm not going to cancel my order. When it gets here I'll use the trial key and play off that for the start to see if i like it. Other wise ill sell it. Surely it can't annoy me more than WoW.
