Hi
I tried the game when it first came out and wasn't all that crazy about it...I've heard they added a lot of new content..My question is..Is there any solo content?...Also since about everything was instanced is there any freedom to explore stuff?..How'sthe community..I am a Older player...Wouldn't so much being instanced make it more like guild Wars?
Just wondering if it's worth playing?

Personally I love the game, or more the design of the game...But really oyu are likely to make a character or two then get bored of the redundancy.
There is quite a bit more content now, but that really doesn't avoid the inevitability of repetition. They have made the game a bit more solo friendly too, grouping is far better though.
Guess the obvious thing to say is, if you didn't like the game much at release, then you will only find mild interest in it now and that interest will wane.
I still log in time to time and just have fun doing a few things, kinda want to tinker with the crafting they added.
"The knowledge of the theory of logic has no tendency whatever to make men good reasoners." - Thomas B. Macaulay
"The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge." - Daniel J. Boorstin
Still the best combat system in mmorpg terms in my opinion.
Although I did solo quite a bit in DDO the challenge level increased by multiples as you got to 8 or so. It can be quite fun soloing though as you have to use every option available to you.
Sneaking, Shield Blocking, Dodge/Rolling, Kiting, using your entire spellbook, multiple weapon damage types, etc. Knowledge of your opponent is very helpful in the solo game. A bard would run an encounter in a far different manner than a paladin of course but this dynamic is heightened in DDO. In Guild Wars it essentially comes down to damage versus hitpoints with some minor variation.
I find DDO is a great game for a small group that has a pre-determined play day/time. A small group that knows how to fight together can tackle pretty much everything in the game.
I should say that the community at this point is pretty mature in comparison to the general mmorpg market.
I could be wrong but isn't there a free trial still around? Give it a shot
Most refreshing MMO on the market right now hands down, and yes the combat system is untouchable compared to any others.
Yeah, it is actually pretty neat. I would of bought this game, but their isn't enough people playing it to get it.
Plus its allllll instanced based.
Hi
Yeah It was the free trial i tried but i think i'll subscribe then..thanks all.
Just a couple quick updates to some of the posts...
1. Post server merge (several months ago), populations are extremely healthy. One of those rare times that a merge was the best thing that could have happened. Grouping now is incredibly easy and fast, for just about any level or quest.
2. Redundancy. As of Mod 5, the content in DDO was more than doubled since launch...and mod 6 just came out the other day. You can level to cap without ever repeating a single quest in DDO.
I have yet to log onto to Argonnessen on not find a group.. there are tons of people playing
The Ghallanda server is doing very well. No problems grouping at all or finding a guild for that matter! I even started a few new alts with two of my buddies that are new to the game and they are not having any trouble with grouping.
There have been a plethora of changes since the game launched and the experiance had during the first 2 months should be forgotten for the most part. While some things are simailar many are not.
Massive improvements to character build dynamics allowing for plethora of different creations that can be fine tuned to your playstyle, more then most MMO's.
Most lower level content has been through a "solo pass" (my phrase) which allows for someone to entre and play it Solo. Everything is slightly reduced in difficulty to make it more accessible to a single character. The new out door areas are also VERY solo freindly.
Freedom - again, NEW OUT DOOR AREAS!! I think there's at least 6-7 big areas if not more. The lastest three have gone from Great, Amazing to Outstanding! I don't know how Turbine is going to out do their latest outdoor instance named The Vale - it's stunning! Did I mention that the new area is huge and has 18 rare spawnning bosses that have great loot for lvl 16 characters?
Community is far better then Guildwars although you're bound to run into an occasional asshat. The community is top notch though. Only negative thing I can say about the community is there's bound to be a rare occasion that someone ego or arrogence annoys the heck out of you - it happens, but not too often.
Age? well now, I'm 36 and most of my guldies are around the same age. We're working professionals and tend to be a mix of casual players who log in 3-4 hours a week for guild raid runs and the 10-20 hours a week playing types. I also believe my guild has a few married couples gaming together.
You can hit me up on Ghallnda if you wish (mindspat) and I'd be willing to grab a few of the others to walk you through some of the quests if wanted. there's always someone wanting to roll a newbie character although the new content apppears to be keeping most of us glued to our higher level characters.
The instancing keeps the content personalized. Content is well scripted and pathing is excellent. Turbine deffintely knows what their doing in area of development. DDO is absolutely a AAA game.
Define "enough people playing it" please. There's never been a shortage of players from my perspective and having three instances in common town areas seems a lot more then "enough".
You should try/play the game if you wish to make an accurate statement. :P
