Runescape, UO itself, Vanguard, Lord of the Rings (though their housing is instanced neighborhoods and extremely popular),  Horizons, & Everquest 2 (though the crafting has been simplified & housing is instanced, if you follow the tutorials correctly you can pretty much craft and never worry with the adventure levels unless you want to harvest on your own but still completely possible without ever doing a quest).

Seriously there's no lack for games you just have to look or atleast be open a story / fantasy / sci fi setting you wouldn't normally be into.

Horizons & Vanguard probably have the most interesting housing system...I know in Horizons you have to buy land, gather materials, and actually BUILD your house   I think its fairly similiar in Vanguard.

Only two games come to mind.

EVE - Mining, Production, POS and skill based.
Vanguard - Harvesting, Crafting, Home Construction though level-based.

At least he would, had Horizons not died. The game struggled at release, tanked, then some players took it over, but in the process screwed the pooch with the billing process and at one point the main page was hacked and was script loading viruses to people who logged in. So yeah, as of right now, I don't even think it has functioning servers, so Horizons sadly isn't much of an option.

    "Runescape, UO itself..."

Hahaha oh no, ooooohhh no. I'm just stopping right there. UO died at the split, and what it is now is the result of EA digging up the corpse, putting a dress on it, and then passing it around the office for everyone to piss on. UO now, is NOT UO. As for the other game....we don't say the R word here...

Vanguard wasn't that bad, neither was EQ2, but honestly, they're still nothing like UO. It's not about "opening yourself up" to anything. it's about it simply not being there. The closest thing to UO that existed was Ryzom and that went down the tubes as well, so the closest thing you could even consider to UO might maaaaybe be Asherons Call, which is so dated at this point that, graphics aside, the amendments to try and keep it on life support have probably killed most of its charm and the community size by now.

Bella didn't mention anything about it needing to be a hard core gank fiesta that the original UO was.  Crafting & housing in UO is every bit as good now as it was in the beginning.

Seriously actually read what she asked for.  Housing, Crafting, Harvesting.

Oh and Horizons is still up, running, and active.  Though yes it has gone through many horrors since its launch due to crap ownership issues :)

You should try Wurm Online, you can make your own farms of diffirent stuff then make bread from it, just cook it or make clothing items/sheets etc from cotton and other stuff from other seed types. You can also build houses, villages, walls etc. Shape the ground as you please, create your own tunnels and much much more.

    Check it out here www.wurmonline.com
