This post is about slowing down combat in the NGE.
What I don't like is Blix's response in this.
Not easy at all. So much Development effort was put into speeding everything up, and pulling a 180 at this point would seem unadvisable.
I really dislike the whole "can't do" attitude they've been passing off. Also this complete inability to be creative. The players want combat to be slower, does that automatically mean dramatically changing the entire game?
I spent five minutes thinking about this and came up with a work around. Remove auto attack, not necessarily from the entire game just hide it. Create a level 1 special attack called "Attack" that does an attack with no damage modifiers and costs 0 stamina. Find some way to make the action repeatable. Set the cooldown timer to however fast you want combat to be. There.
Would that work? I dunno, but I thought of a way around it without overhauling the whole damn thing. Doesn't do anything about run speed but that's a different hurdle. Its definitely something that could at the very least be tested. I'm just sick of hearing "it can't be done" in regards to everything people keep asking for. Instead all their effort is put into adding systems that nobody asked for, ripped from other games that did it better.

It's more that the current development team has no clue what to do with the current code. All the original programmers are gone and the skeleton crew that's left is only capable of copy/paste artwork and simplistic things like collections.
They have actually admitted that when they went to work on the space game for Chapter 8 they didn't have a single person on the team who knew anything about the JTL code. They actually had to go talk to the players in the pilot forum to figure things out.
So while Blixtev says it wouldn't be a good idea to do a 180 on something like combat speed the truth is they don't know how.
Hogwash! pulling a 180 at any point during the development of swg has always been advisable... oh I get it, he's pulling a 180 about pulling 180s now. I'm on to you Blix!
All they have to do to slow it down by 50% is to increase damage 50%.
But then Blix is too stupid to know that.
the devs have no idea what to do with the game.
they have put in lame content that no one wants. i mean how many people liked space? all the players i knew and i knew alot hated jump to lightspeed and the action gamers who came in. and they make a whole publish about space? i bet 2k players left the game just do to that.
swg is going to die unless the pre-cu comes back in at this point.
No they don't, because they are all noob devs who are college entry level devs who NEVER saw a pre PREQUEL Star Wars movie in the theater.
The vet devs are eternal losers like Blixtev.
The current Dev team would hide under a bed and cry if asked to manage Pre-CU. Total incompetence. Of course SOE in general lacks talent... Think SOE will divert talent to SWG? No... Not ever.
In fact, I made the arguement back in Septembe, when they were discussing/asking about what new content should be added, someone brought adding in the underwater Gungan cities. Several, including a dev said that was impossible due to they couldn't modify the ground engine to handle it. I simply pointed out that space is a completely different engine than the ground game and could be easily modified to make this possible.
It just goes to show, like many here have already said, the current dev team just doesn't seem to know how to code the current engine in any form. *Professional note* In most game engines there is usually a scripting language that allows you to add assets and change things without changing the base code (think mods to Unreal and the Morrowind TES). I have a feeling this is all they can do at this point.

SOE has found a way to populated the servers back. :P

they need to get raph koster back i would love to see a video of smed begging raph to come back and fix swg.
I would have to agree. I dont think it is about the concept as much as it is about the implementation. They simply do not know how to do much of anything with the code. Even the original devs had problems getting this code to work.
The old dev team never got a player controlled gunboat in the game, the new dev team got 3 in the last publish. I am writing this while in a rebel gunboat now (taking a break from gunning with 25 people on board and only 6 turrets we have to switch out so everyone can have fun). The old dev team also did not get a heroic encounter on a star destoyer either in game.
I agree that the devs do not have a clue as to how to fix this mess.
But the devs are not to blame.
Management is. Management, short sighted, made up of marketing asshats, has no clue how to manage a project, all they're ever expected to do is generate revenue. Look what Smed spends all his time on: not improving the games, but how to squeeze more revenue out of a diminishing playerbase, across the board for SOE. They keep buying up games to maintain subscriber numbers, not by developing and improving the products they have, because they don't have a clue how to do this.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

I think what hes saying is that they made the mistake of the NGE, of completely changing the game, they dont want to do it again and ruin it - they want to continue to improve and add as the players do appreciate that. Slower combat would be nice, but i believe its far too late for that to get back to square 1.
Also, you can't ruin what's already been destroyed. As long as they don't nerf anyone in the process, they can change it just about however they want and the die-hards that are still there will still play it. Heck, they could change it to rock-paper-scissors and you'd still be here telling us how wonderful it is. And even if it did nerf everything and we had to start over, at least we'd be doing it in a better game. My "uber" loot and elder titles are things I can gladly part with if it means a FUN game.
As I said before, I represent the primary source of potential new subs for the game. What I've said that I want is what many like me have said they wanted. SOE chooses to spend time instead giving us watered-down content that we can get, more of and better quality, from other games.
And finally, the game is not getting better. A year ago when they were adding in Expertise and things like that the game was. But not anymore. They've made it clear that they just want to focus on the WoW-clone aspects of their design doc and are, as they did before and said they'd learned their less from but obviously haven't, ignoring what their players are asking for. All that they have planned is more instances, more grind, and more nerfs.
I don't give a toss if its "too hard." Its what needs to be done to make this game stand out, be more unique, and have something worth coming back for.

BS.
So, the answer to a "mistake" like the NGE is to not change it?
When the NGE is WHY the game is in the mess that it's in now?
Again, bullshit.
That's just an excuse. They keep the NGE because they WANT to keep the NGE. Because they don't want to change it. SOE is so unwilling to do anything about their "mistake" (they still think that it was miscommunication, not that the NGE was flawed) that they would rather go down in flames with it than undo it.
Why did everyone leave?
The NGE
Why isn't anyone coming back?
The NGE
Why isn't anyone new coming in?
The NGE
Seems to me that any solution that doesn't involve doing something about the NGE is doomed to fail before it is even tried.
Hasn't the last 2 years PROVEN that beyond all doubt?
when you can load into Dant mining OP at peak time and be the only player there, you just have to know the writing is on the wall.

Those assets have been in the .tre files for a long time. The content you are getting now is leftover from the canned GCW expansion that also included Restuss. The dev team only turned on content that was already present. It is a good thing, yes, but it is not new material or a new investment in the game.

You would think so 'cat, but not to these folks:
All is well in SWG. Things have never been better. Veterans are returning. Instances are fun. New players show up in Eisley every day. We have cool new loot. We love chasing new gear every 1/4 publish. The game is so fun, iconic, and Star Warsy. The devs have lots in store for us. Why do you still hold onto a grudge for something that happened two years ago? The devs will never do that again!
You are dead right, the NGE is the reason the game is in the condition its in. There is no denying it to anyone reasonable who does not have an agenda. The NGE is a total and complete failure. The game needs to have all of the garbage cleaned off of it, give CU ToOW publish as a baseline, add in the stuff like gunships to that system and see how things evolve from there. IF this game has a future, this is exactly what they would have done.
The devs have more or less outright told everyone there is no money for anything major (including new artwork), yet folks come in here and state how well everything is going. It is a farce and SOE has lost their reputation, their standing in the MMO industry. They are almost irrelevant at this point. How far the giant has fallen.

"tooooo haaaaarrrrd" is the battle cry of the current devs.

Actually, all there was there originally was the skin of the outside of the gunboats and a few bits inside - The new devs had to make it fly, add all the component slots, add weapons, add stats, add the interior, and make it all work together.

You mean the Devs should be congratulated for showing even the slightest ability to do what they are supposed to be qualified for?
That's like saying that I should receive fanfare for figuring out how to plug a patch cable in when I am employed as a network engineer...
The old dev team created a crafting system that has yet to see an equal in any other game. The new dev team doesn't understand crafting so they made loot more important than crafted goods.
The old dev team created a living, breating Star Wars universe for us to live in. The new dev team can't be bothered with too much reading.
The old dev team made the social professions (crafters and ents) as vital to the game as the combat characters. The new dev team focuses solely on combat.
The old dev team was able to actually create new art assets. The new dev team is all about copy and paste (transparent BARC lol).
Blix was the moron dev PERSONALLY responsible for dumbing the AS profession way down as part of the CU because he "played one in game" and "knew what was wrong with the profession". Bah. Moron.
Instead of putting in some sensible armor caps, this tool decided to convert the system totally away from what it was, and ruining all existing armor in the game in one fell swoop. Blix is a worshiper at the church of "If you don't want to fix it, nerf it."
Is it any surprise that SWG continues to go down the path of more nerfs, incompetent programing, and lack of a coherent plan to make the game better. To Blix and Co, simple = better, I am surprised crafting and combat isn't all one big virtual red button. Oh wait, it ain't that far from that now.
THE NGE LIES MUST STOP!!!!!!!!! Let this game die please now.......

Ermm...no. I was simply correcting him, i never said they deserved congratulations on thi. Regardless it was a good job on the Devs par since none of them knew the mechanics of JTL and quickly learnt it.
