Joymax has announced that Darkeden, their vampire-themed MMORPG, has launched and is now available for everyone free to play.

SAN JOSE, CA - February 12, 2008 - Joymax, an independent developer of interactive entertainment for the global market, has launched their vampire-themed massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Darkeden. Previously only available in an open beta test, Darkeden is now available for everyone to play for free. Players can log in today and slay vampires, fight humans, or crush ousters! Players can also retreat to the new Daden Market where they can purchase Coins and spend them on Premium Service for access to new areas, rare items, weapons, armor, pets, armor and more.

About Darkeden

A free-to-play MMORPG, Darkeden invites players into a bleak near-future environment and a brutal conflict between three distinct races-vampires, slayers, and ousters. Featuring hand-rendered graphics and an isometric 2D view, Darkeden is easy for novices to learn, yet includes a broad variety of features and character-building options for hardcore players. Darkeden contains hundreds of potential skills and two distinct systems of character advancement, and is available to download and play free of charge.

What i don't understand is whats up with these 3rd person face down veiw games coming out. One would figure that we would be beyond these low standerds of technology. You can get free, or even really cheap 3d engines nowadays that could look better visually than this game. It must be easy to make games such as these. Then take a item mall, throw it in and make profit. This is my opinon, and mine only, but games like these and companys putting these games out, are certainly putting game development in thier area back a notch. So to them i say this, please stop now. Your only making things worse. Goodluck to whoever plays this, but be warned, your playing a game that could of been launched in 1999.

Looks like some hobbyist made it in his basement.  Might be some good ideas in there somewhere but how many will see it with such anachronistic presentation.

OMG, I can't wait to play this game!! It looks like a Cult Classic in the making!!!

This is how I'd have reacted If the year was (((((1988))))) But unfortunately for the creators of Dark Eden, The year is 2008.. This game looks like trash and probably plays worse than it looks. I cant believe this actually made a front page headline..

Should mention that this games actually from 2003,and joymax are simply rehashing it for...well,im not sure if theres a reason or not,but darkeden used to be run by another company but it was overrun by hackers and dupers.

The global darkeden closed down a while back, but the other versions from asia kept going.Joymax simply picked up the rotting corpse, necro'ed it and stuck a cash shop on.

Its a horrific grind, but the pvp is actually pretty good.

It's actually been out awhile i posted on this game a few weeks ago at least.I gave it a shot because joymax silkroad wasn't a bad effort at all.Let me tell you what a disappointment this game was.The gameplay and graphics are something out of a prehistoric arcade game dusted off from the early 70's.I  woudln't give this even a 1/5 star in any category. As a matter of fact if i was joymax i would hide my head in shame at this horrible attempt.I've said all i have to now, this game is the worse released game i have ever bare witness to.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Not to be rude or anything but since this IS mmorpg.com wouldnt it make sense to instead of writing fluffy nice sounding reports about these pieces of shovelware, to journalistically neuter them for even putting out garbage like this.

I can understand to a point about journalistic bias etc etc, but how man new mmo players will try this game under the guise of F2P only to siphon unrealistic amounts of money from their bank account on features just to make it a game at all.

Maybe its just me but these item mall games pretty much set us back a couple of video game generations (I.E. the quarter arcade) and do nothing to promote the genre.

The agency and is a fine example of a semi-western (SOE yes i know they suck but for some reason other devs follow their lead sometimes) mmo company further destroying what little of a rep it had by making one of these piles of f2p in taking after these OH SO successful f2p games like..... Fury (Nope that blows) RF Online (Nope total trash) Archlord (oh wait also complete garbage) and dont forget the MEGA HIT 2Moons(150 Levels of grinding garbage).

Lick Here you could be one of the lucky 10!!!

You forgot to bash the upcoming Battlefield Heroes. In the Games For Windows article the producer states that he was inspired by Maplestory and Neopets to create a cashshop. Yes, you will  be grinding. Yes, there will be different equipment. And yes, there will be a 2x exp. time-limited item that requires real money. Oh, did I mention that the graphics are all cartoony (and require crappy PCs) and aimed at young kids, who have trouble handling money?

I did forget about the new Battlefield, What a huge crock of shit that game is going to be. Make a game for kids that costs about 200x more than just buying a game and then rape them repeatedly for their parents money until you can shut it down and run for the bank.

    HOW SICKMAKING

To me it looks like they snagged the graphics engine for Diablo II and used that!

For starters you can't even access this webpage from Firefox on Linux.

While it works fine on Firefox/Windows.

Now I understand that it's a window game, and I was willing to give it a shot. Thought I will download it at work and try it out after getting home.

But then if you can't even access their webpage I will prolly not.

    Regards,
    adolf

Yeah, I sort of agree it would be great if mmorpg.com (or someone!) would take an editorial stand against the glut of absolute shyt that's being passed off as mmogs these days.  It isn't even a case of "well different people like different games" any more, many of these things are just indisputable garbage

Unfortunately...mmorpg.com isn't a Gamer Advocate or Activist or Lobbyist site.

It would be nice to have a high profile and respected industry/media leader be the Voice of the Gamer but mmorpg.com just isn't in that business.  Too bad no one else is either.
