Electronic Arts held their annual Analysts Day for financial advisors (you can check out the web based audio replays of the event and check out PDFs of the presentations at EA's investors web site) and during their presentation EA execs revealed in one chart on their main PDF file that their newly acquired developer BioWare will be making a new game in the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic franchise. This new game will apparently not be an MMO title but rather something similar to the first two games in the RPG series (the first developed by BioWare, the second by Obsidian Entertainment). BioWare will also work on future games in the Mass Effect series along with their own new Dragon Age game and their currently unknown MMO title.

Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that the "currently unknown MMO title" can't ALSO be based on SW, but it at least reduces the chance of that being the case, since this announcement accounts for the previous press release regarding the collaboration between Bioware and LA. It also indicates that the MMO is not necessarily one in the same with the SW title.

Great i was hoping it wasnt KOTOR MMO, its probably in the clone wars or after return of the jedi era.
it's Harry Potter.

EA has - annual Analysts Day for financial advisors
What a bunch of a$$hats.
Yea that doesn't mean that they are not working on a KOTOR MMO, a lot of the mentioned games on that slide are already out and just indicative of "talent" not really of what’s on the horizon. People blindly accept too much of what someone speculates on the interweb and I’m sorry Mr. Callaham but that is pretty week sauce evidence that ZOMG NO KOTOR MMO!!!111!!!! and ZOMG KOTOR 3!!111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!
I don't really care either way but that set of slides doesn't say no KOTOR mmo; sorry firing squad..... you lose.
lol...that's not from the "interweb", that's from an investor and analyst meeting of EA regarding 2009. And yes, if you listen to the podcast and read the presentation and connected documents...it's not a KOTOR MMO.
p.s. Is it 100% definitive? No, probably not. more like 95%...compared to baseless and pure speculation that it would be a KOTOR mmo in the first place.

LOL I got owned! I'm at work so I can't listen to the podcast and I am reading some NIST (thats enough to make your eyes bleed) documents so I didn't have time to read the full documentation. Thanks for correcting me Vincenz

Your thoughts are not entirely off base, however, which is why I was careful to say what I said in my OP.
Yes, it's possible that the other unannounced MMO is in fact a SW-based MMO. Hell, it's possible that the "KOTOR" game mentioned in the slide is an online game. They do, after all, refer to Warhammer Online as just "Warhammer" in multiple places.
Anything's possible. This is just more information to speculate on.

I feel bad for the guy "DeaconX" that started this thread
mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/151383/page/1
I think once he reads this the first thing hes going to say is, "O crap!!...now i gotta change my sig!"

Yep, it's why I edited my OP to say it's not 100% definitive...it's starting to get pretty close though.
To be honest, it doesn't really confirm anything beyond that there will be a non-MMO KOTOR game. Heck, it wouldn't be the first time a major company released a game to build up hype and set up the world to better fit a MMO setting. (Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne being developed and released while WoW was already starting to be developed, for example)
HAHAHA thanks Jive but no need to feel bad I've always said I'm interested in the BioWare MMORPG no matter what it will be and never thought the chance of it being Star Wars was GREAT, I was just hopeful As long as it's a good MMORPG I'm still interested... if it were say, Harry Potter I'd be gone for sure lol.
Personally, I'll be really happy if KOTOR III is great by BioWare and single player and the MMORPG is just something 'special' and well done also. But I'm not one who needs to change my sig for the sake of saving face or 'I MIGHT BE JUDGED BY OTHERS OH NOES' lol. I was hopeful is all. I'm too lazy to change it right now anyway but I do have the version of my sig since before I added the 'BioWare' stuff so no worries
EDIT -- Though I was thinking... just because they don't confirm it's NOT a star wars MMORPG, it still could be but they're still keeping very hush. I mean if they put 'Star Wars KOTOR MMORPG', then all the secrecy they've been maintaining is blown away. Just saying... who knows. Personally I would really love a good sci fi [mass effect] mmorpg or even a D&D done properly mmorpg.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

Haha yea i know man just breaking balls, i was actually looking forward to a new star wars mmo. This does confirm what that one girl was saying on her blog though, remember that thread?

So maybe its right.

Well at least we get something along the lines of KOTOR; sweet.
So we get a console/pc KOTOR game plus a new unknown genre MMO?
/shrug
Sounds good to me!
"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"
Are people really that quick to believe that this is definitive proof of a KOTOR single player game? If you examine the PDF that this information comes from, you will see that KOTOR is only listed on one slide. In that same slide are the names of several other games, both newer titles in development AND older titles. It's a developer portfolio, showing games in development by that studio, as well as including earlier games/franchises that proved to be the important for the studio.
To support this, KOTOR is not mentioned in any of the future IP forcast slides in the PDF, but games such as Dragon Age, BioWare's MMO, Pandemics LotR title, are mentioned. KOTOR is there on that single slide as a reference point only. The rest of the PDF does not support the fact that it is a game in development currently.
I will admit that I haven't been able to listen to the audio of the conference because I am at work. If anyone has heard it, please confirm that someone specifically spelled out that a new KOTOR is in development.
The key word in that statement is "apprently". That does not confirm anything. Exchange that with the word "definitely" and you can CONFIRM. Until they this is all conjecture.
And for the record I have never played SWG, nor have I ever played either KOTR. I am no fan boy, I just understand english.
All major companies have annual meetings for their financial advisors man. Its a part of running a business, the analyst have to convene to look over market research and decide what ventures they should move forward in.
Its not like this regular business meeting was intended to replace the "fan fairs". Don't be so naive, and don't be a tool about what is essentially perfectly normal business practice.
The part that's telling is that the Bioware MMO is also listed on that single slide, on the same line, as a separate entity.

Honestly, we should all be thankfull that its not an MMO. I really think KOTR is one of the better sci-fi crpgs ever to hit the market. I just dont see how anyone could translate that to an MMO without bastardizing it
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."
The part that's telling is that the Bioware MMO is also listed on that single slide, on the same line, as a separate entity.
Yes, and also note that the MMO is consistently referred to throughout the PDF as "new MMO" or "Austin MMO". They're still keeping it a secret. Given that, why would they still keep the MMO a secret on an investor presentation, but then simultaneously flub up and accidently reveal a new KOTOR game in development?
I still maintain that KOTOR is on there as a reference point of past success, not as a title in development. Keep in mind that in the slides that follow, KOTOR is not presented among the future/up-and coming IPs that EA has lined up.
Neither is Star Wars in general, yet we know based on the LA press release that Bioware is working on a SW title.
I would also think it reasonable to interpret that slide as listing projects in development, no past titles. For instance, it doesn't list DAoC for Mythic.

Hi folks
This seems to be much ado about nothing (to quote the bard). This was a slide that EA used to show the pedigree of the different studios to investors. That is why you see games that have already been released (like KotOR, Black, Boogie and others) mentioned on the slide.
Why was this closed, opened, edited, etc? Well, I wanted to find out the real info on this. Both Henley and Brian tried to help out, but I used my Almost-Godlike SuperCosmicPowers to keep things open till I could get teh real answer for you.
Now that we all know what this is, the thread can be closed. Thanks.
