Ok. I am looking for this:
An MMO with a great personal story. Lots of solo play. But group if I want to. Key word is want. I like different quests that actually mean something. Not "kill ten Blargs in this forest...now go kill ten Blargs in this desert. Here is a sword." I get really bored of WOW. Eve online, while amazing, isn't really story driven. LOTR is ok but I just can't get into it. EQ2 isn't cohesive with the quests enough for me. Although the variation of quests is great. The quests for history and armor and so on are fantastic. Not a big fan of the mindless grind but don't mind grinding if there is something worthwhile at the end.
Any suggestions?

What you have just said is exactly what the developers say Stargate Worlds will be, I mean it is a great idea and you should read about it or even check out their site plus their podcasts, it is really something you should look into, I mention this because they are creating an MMO without grinding and something truely story driven that anyone can dive into with or without a group, oh but it wont be out for a while thats the only downside, until then though I am not quite sure.
Maybe try Tabula Rasa, I hear you can solo the missions but also group if you want to. I don't play it but I hear the grind is not very hard at all.
