I just got the Platinum Edition today. I need help picking the right server that have some new player in it or low level charactors, so it's easier to find group. I also need help choosing a class that can solo well, incase I can't find any group. I was thinking about Warden and Blademaster. I like to use melee with some range. Please help, thank you.

I just reactivated my account from a long time ago so I might not be the best source of info...but if it were me, I'd just pick one of the big servers (Merlin, Lancelot, Guinevere, or Percival). I think all the servers have lots of high lvl chars. If you play a big server, you have more people making alts for you to lvl with and more people to rvr against later on (which is good or bad depending).
As far as classses, I'm still figuring out all the changes myself, but I think wardens are excellent. They provide a lot of group defense, they can buff and heal and have some damage output. They will do well in both rvr and pve as party support/secondary damage.
The way things are now, much of rvr seems to be oriented towards ranged characters in keep fights or standoffs. Currently pure melee fighters seem to be using seige equipment most of the time in rvr. The rumor is they are in the process of helping melee characters in rvr somehow. If that's the case blademasters would also be a good choice, especially in more open fights. If you like melee with some range, you might choose a ranger or a valewalker. Rangers hit really hard from range and can melee a little. Valewalkers are sort of equal parts melee and ranged magic, but not as specialized in melee as a blademaster or as specialized in magic as a caster. This is all assuming you plan to play in Hibernia.
Hope that helps some, ask around before choosing your class though. Don't trust what I say because a lot of my info is dated or second hand.
My guess is you are doing Hibernia? Or just looking at Hibernia? Anyhow, lvling to 50 is going to be tough. Because there is NOONE from 1-19 to lvl with. 90% of the players have a lvl 50 so they just make a free level 20. And even then they mostly only take them to 24 for thid. So after 24 its going to be hard to find a grp again.
As for server, Any of the higher populated servers would be best but I doubt it would make a difference. I made a runemaster on mid/merlin which he is stuck at 32 and havent been able to find a grp for over a week. The game right now is definately unnewbie friendly.
As far as classes go (melee with some range) your choices arent to keen for those requirements. Wardens have no range except for heals/buffs and blademasters have no range period. Heres a quick breakdown(keep in mind archers and casters are FOTM)
Hibernia
Albion
Midgard
Wel thats the most BASIC rundown of the classes. Theres alot more detailed differences then what is actually here. Just giving you a basic idea of what roles they usualy play.
My suggestion for "melee with some range" would be. Valewalker, Reaver, Thane, Skald, minstrel, champion. In that order would be my suggestion.
Unfortunately, some of the best soloing classes may not be your preferred playstyle. Such as albion i would definately say the necromancer....very little downtime with that class. Most melee classes like an alb armsman would have serious downtime. Hybrid classes have less downtime but do less damage.
An enchanter seemed to be a good class from what i remember, bonedancers seemed to be a good class to due to their army of pets healing.
I really can only comment on alb tho paladins had some chants to help them, reavers had some dot and spells to help them melee (sort of a hib champion really)
Once to get anywhere quick in daoc it was just necessary to roll a healer and you were sorted...now it's all about solobility with the focus being on high level content for it's legion of people who have played for years

Perhaps my server is an exception, but I see people of all level ranges out there all of the time. I do not believe it is difficult to find a group from lvl 20 to lvl 50. I have several lvl 30 somethings and lvl 20 somethings and I always find people to group with for xp or bg runs.
Anyways... its like that on both my hib and mid server. Haven't checked my alb server out lately. All three are smaller servers though.
Right now I've found that my supp spiritmaster, supp bonedancer and rc runemaster are all very soloable classes when I feel like soloing.
numatic excellent post.
Says it all. There are so many fun classes in DAoC its hard to say which to pick.Try them a little and see what you like.
Thats because in the level range 1-20 the fastest way to level is to do tasks. Only well balanced groups can do better. To get a task you should check a named guard nearby your starting localtion and say "task" to him. If you found the correct one for your level you will be given a task to kill a blue-yellow mob with nice exp and money reward. At lvl7 you can do 7 tasks worth around 4 bubles of exp.
Hero -- a straightforward tank, defensive, contrary to the other realms, he has Evade 1. Can use all weapons, and can use the Celtic Spear 2Hers. Can use Spirit of the Hunt, which morphs him into a Stag Beast, giving increased max. HP and also healing a nice chunk of HP.
Blademaster -- the light and offensive tank of Hibernia, has the unique ability to "triple wield", he can summon a third sword for a short time every few minutes. Excels in double-weapon combat, but can also go Weapon/Shield, which, paired with his high Evade + the ability to Evade from all directions make for a very long lifetime against few opponents (against many, these skills get penalties, and HP are more important).
Champion -- part Heavy Tank, part Debuffer. Champions have a spellline which consists entirely of instant-spells, offering them a Snare, a DD, and an array of debuffs, though only single-target.
Nightshade -- the "standard" Assassin. Contrary to the other realms, Nightshades have both a casted and an instant Nuke, but both are weak, so don't really change much.
Ranger -- the Archer of Hibernia. Compared to the other realm's archers, Rangers can train in double-weapon combat, and have a line of self-buffs, including a short-duration (but timered) run speed self-buff.
Druid -- depending on spec, he can be the main healer of Hibernia, the main buffer of Hibernia, or Hibernia's secondary Crowd Controller.
Warden -- mainly Healer/Buffer, has a pulsing Bladeturn spell, and an array of self-buffs, but can also train in weapons.
Bard -- Healer, Song-player, main Crowd Control, depends on spec. The heal line isn't that good, the song-line is near necessary for Hibernia to have a chance, the Music (CC) line is weak compared to the other realms, but has potential.
Eldritch -- main Nuker. Depending on spec, he either employ long-range DDs, PBAEDD + Snare-DDs, or a DD and a Nearsight (range-debuff) spell.
Enchanter -- main pet class. Can spec on enhancing the pet, can spec on a PBAE and some very important resist debuffs, can spec on a DD and an array of Haste debuff + a DPS debuff.
Mentalist -- utility caster. Either DoT-heavy + Mana Regen buff + Heal-over-Time, or DD/AEDD/Charm-spells, or Heal/Big Heal/Mezz. The last line is crap though, and I know what I say, I play it as my main (yeah, I am a Mind Mastery Mentalist!!!)
Animists -- strange pet caster. Employs one-shot pets, which run over and cast a spell, and an array of stationary Fire-and-Forget pets, which last 2m and just cast their spells at every target in range.
Valewalkers -- a caster with a Scythe. Hard to describe. HP and Armor like a Caster, but some cool selfbuffs to compensate, wield the Scythe (unique to them), which hits rarely, but like a truck, and procs spells on hitting. Also has an instant-DoT and an instant-Snare, and a Lifetap (just like Animists have).

I am in percival. I honestly don't think its going to be as bad as you think. If you need someone to group with I am starting over on Percival.
