Those assets have been in the .tre files for a long time. The content you are getting now is leftover from the canned GCW expansion that also included Restuss. The dev team only turned on content that was already present. It is a good thing, yes, but it is not new material or a new investment in the game.

Actually, all there was there originally was the skin of the outside of the gunboats and a few bits inside - The new devs had to make it fly, add all the component slots, add weapons, add stats, add the interior, and make it all work together.

You mean the Devs should be congratulated for showing even the slightest ability to do what they are supposed to be qualified for?

That's like saying that I should receive fanfare for figuring out how to plug a patch cable in when I am employed as a network engineer...

Ermm...no. I was simply correcting him, i never said they deserved congratulations on thi. Regardless it was a good job on the Devs par since none of them knew the mechanics of JTL and quickly learnt it.

What kind of legitimate software house allows the knowledge of a major system in one of their products walk out the door without being documented?

Because they've admitted they had spend months reverse engineering the JTL code because the people who know how it was created are gone, and didn't leave documentation behind?

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Since SOE had stated that they do not have the Pre-CU code anymore would it be a great shock to find out that they did not document the JTL code? This is SOE after all. They are not known for being overly competent or planning for the future.

If it had been documented they wouldn't have had to do the same thing an emulator maker would have to do and more or less reverse engineer everything from what they had.

That is worse than poor management.  That is PISS POOR management.  When I worked for IBM, the people who wrote the software and drivers that supported the RAID cards I tested had a version control system in which EVERYTHING they had or changed was thouroughly documented.

SOE's procedures are unacceptable, unprofessional, and would never fly anywhere else.

Fairplay, it wasnt documented, i didnt know that - but it was the JTL period's Devs that made the mistake.

No, we know from direct observation of publishes on TC that had gamebreaking bugs in them that were not corrected before going live that management did not care if professional procedures were followed or not.  JTL is just the tip of the iceberg on this.

If developers and coders are not following proper procedure, it's because they have no reason to...managment is letting them get away with it.  That standards are not being enforced.  Probably because proper procedure is thought to be unprofitable, and management is totally bottom line driven.

They don't want to change it because it's to haaaaaaard.  It would be to much wooooooork.

Yeah, they have no problem working there assess off to make a mess, but cleaning up that mess, well...let's wait for the cleaning crew, aka server shutdown.

it was the fault of MANAGEMENT who didn't have proper control procedures in place.

Who was in charge then?   Smed.

Who is in charge now?  Smed.

Must be great to work for SOE.  The buck stops nowhere.  It never got here.  Working As Intended.
