I'd have to o with both, cause my parents are buying EQ2 but I'm gonna get WoW, so both are good if your willing to pay both fees or get 2 gamecards

I think I am leaning towards EQ2. Reasons? Well it just seems more indepth and challenging. I think WoW has taken the carebear route with the game because they listened to the MMO whiners out there complaining about various horrible flaws in the MMO world.
Noble, yes, but I think solved incorrectly with giving players so much. One example is instanced dungeons. Yes it eliminates camping and crowded griefing areas but it is a trend many MMO's take to quickly eliminate without creatively solving. Results in a reduction in player associations and leans closer to single player games. It does have benefits however but I think the overall life of generations of MMO's will go back to incorporating seemless worlds to challenge and reward the player with player interactions.
Also travel is another quick fix most MMO's fix with instanced warping etc and in the meantime you miised out on the rest of the world. I have yet to play a MMO that has an interesting quest system. Perhaps WoW can add to but from what I have read it deals mostly with the typical, go kill, go deliver quests.
I want a game that is as challenging and much as rewarding. I think WoW leans towards rewarding instead of challenging. And I think what is too come is the most exciting. After this 2nd generation of games pass we can look forward to hopefully a truer sense of what a MMO is.
Yea EQ2 does have instanced zoning from what I read. I could be wrong. Doesnt mean I am not going to like it, just overall WoW is more carebear and EQ2 is less. But both games have catered to them however.
3rd Gen games will hopefully follow in the footsteps of Vanguard (3rd Gen game, release 2005 late) that has a vast seemless world with no zoning and no instanced dungeons. And to get anywhere you must actuallly travel, no warping and along the way you have adventures.
WoW. SOE sucks immensely, just cant figure why people are willing to pay for playing shit like EQ or SWG. Besides, even though this is Blizzards first MMORPG, they are perfectionists (Im a fanboy and I am proud of it )

How is WoW more carebear? Is EQ2 total PK-equipped? Cause thats what carebear means: friendly for non-pkers. And since WoW's main plot is that of a faction war, youd have to be pretty PK-friendly to consider WoW carebearish

Oh, like Asheron's Call before they discovered portal magic! And that was only 500sq miles too

But who wants to wait! I surely dont.
