So I have a 4 day weekend this week. I decided to download the trail version of the game on Friday, my first day off. It is now almost 24 hours later and the game says it will take 45 more hours to update and patch. Three days to download a game. Come on. I already registered my 14 day free trail. maybe this is the SOE way. A 14 day trail and a 14 day download. This is without a doubt the worst free trail I have experienced. Three cheers for SOE and their three day downloads.
Douche baggery at its finest.

Download it from fileplanet. Patching took me around 1h yesterday.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

I should not have to go to a third part to download the free trial in under 3 days. I am going to let it run its course and see how long it takes. My bet is close to 4 days (96 hours). If SOE wants people to play their game then they should really enable the consumer.

Just be glad you aren't playing with your wife.
My wife wanted to do a trial of the Play the Fae expansion or whatever, until she saw the download times. We ended up getting it anyways, but it took us half the trial period just to download it.
I wouldn't worry too much about it though, as the trial is relatively shallow. I think it took me all of 3 days to play through all of the content and even complete every collection.
*sighs* wth is it that you guys are getting these horrendous load times? I bought the game online and it took me four hours to download and then three to patch. I have a dsl connection.
There's something wrong if its taking you this long to download and I seriously don't think its SOE's servers.
The longest download and patch I have had to deal from with SOE took around 4-5 hours total.
Time to clean your pipes...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
I am sure it is not my "pipes". I have plenty of available bandwith. It is more likely that when I connected to the server and authenticates as a "trail member" SOE put me on the lowest priority.

This is a possibility, and certainly not below SOE at all. I could see them short-hauling their trial customers to save on bandwidth.
Or your ISP is in a heavy traffic area. Or the server could have been stormed by people doing the same thing as you. Or the winter storms may have knocked out some of their service routes, forcing your provider to take the REALLLY long scenic route to get to them.
There are thousands of reasons for this kind of thing....and its one of the reasons that we HAVE 3rd party sites. I don't see why you think you shouldn't HAVE to use them...they exist because it takes very little to bottleneck a connection and having them around gives the user more options when such a thing occurs.
Jesus, just use a 3rd party. Its not like they steal your babies for doing it...its the same bloody thing.
dude dont look at the fucking estimated time, it doesnt work. ive had a dl say it will take 50+ hrs and it was done in 9-10 hrs.
Yeah true. Sometimes it will say 15 or 20 hours estimated time, but it turns out half that. It's really crazy and frustrating at times hehe. Also, I have heard on the SOE forums for games such as Vanguard and EQ2, the download can sometimes freeze up or suddenly dramatically increase in estimated time. If something like this happens people have said you should try cancelling the download and then resuming. Something to do with refreshing the download or something, i dont know. Dont worry this wont reset the entire download. It will pick up where it left off and if it was screwing up, this should have fixed the problem. Maybe give it shot. Just to be safe though, dont reboot the computer, as it may reset the entire download. That really is a heck of a long time though. I dont have a great internet connection. (ISDL version 1 i think or something.) I think it's usually 25kbs per second. Patching for EQ2 and all expansions -12 hours, Vanguard-15. When it comes to pc technical stuff, I really got no idea what the hell im talking about haha.
I actually had a similar thing happen.
i had spent around 18 hours and it was still saying it needed 10+ hours left.
what happened was i uninstalled the client and started over and had the whole thing downloaded in about 6-7 hours.
what you need to do is click the full client download rather than the trial client.
for some reason the full client took ALOT less time. I'm pretty sure the trial client download is bugged.
Meh, it is not even that unusual that you are only getting a free trial client D/L from a third party, or having a set of cd's/dvd's. From other developers.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Mine took about 14 hours to complete. It is a big download ya know...
There are two kinds of people in this world. People who pick their nose.. and liars.
I am at 48 hours and about 40% done.

Honey, there is something wrong, restart the download.
just got done downloading play the fae..at first it said 1 hour an i was like cool..then when it got down to 3 mins it restarted an said 96 hours , was just about to cancel it an it started droppin so isat here seein how far it would go an it kept droppin fast, so it got down to 20 mins about a half hour later an its now done . am now in game so just under 2 hours for whole patch for me
Wait a minute...
Only 2 hours?
You mean to say that it is NOT douche-baggery at it's finest?
Heh. We regulars of EQ2 go through this monotany everytime they release an expansion. The download patchers never tell you a realistic e.t.a. on the download, whether your patching a trial, an expansion, a game update, or a fully subscribed game.
If it's going slow giving you an incredibly large wait time and seems to be getting nowhere, stop it, start it up again. You'll get a different connection, hopefully a faster one.
This isn't the only MMO that has patcher problems, it just seems to be the one most people have a problem with. I still maintain it's worth the wait.
And no, you can't make a good judgement of the whole game by playing the fae trial. Especially if you don't like fairies! The game starter zones are incredibly varied. Playing an evil toon in Freeport, Neriak, or Gorowyn is completely different to Faydwer, especially Gorowyn which is simply stunning.
Currently returned to Norrath after disliking Hyboria.
Some people have long download times, but others even on the free trail get it done quick. But it's so easy to fuss about it and blame it on someone else. Turn off firewall. Set your router ports. Do a spyware check. Defrag. Etc.
I just started (then stopped because I don't need) the trial download and the est. time for me was 4 hours on DSL. I would guess that the problem is on your end, or else your ISP.
