yeah I just did a google and WOW you are right. And all this time I was under the impression that WoW was leading the pack with 10 million. LOL
lol...WoW is just the most suscribed mmo in the western world (even though only 4 million are na and eu...the rest are asian again) emm...asia have alot of games with millions of subs which we havent heard of here they are mmo crazy
Honestly, even though they say it on the cover, I still don't believe it.
Blizzard says that they are the "worlds largest online game" so right there you have a point of contention.
This means one of the two is lying, or is ignorant.
Yes, I'm biased towards Lineage II because I think it's a horrible, poorly designed, grind-fest, bot filled, gank / grief extraveganza.
But, that is my opinion.
I mean, check this out.
"Reporting 610,918 unique users during the month of March 2007." from wikipedia
And get this, "MMORPGs are very popular throughout the world, with combined global memberships in subscription and non-subscription games exceeding 15 million as of 2006." Also from Wikipedia.
So do you expect me to believe that more then 16 million of L2s players didn't play this past March? HA! What a joke.
Or that of the 15 million global MMORPG members in 2006, they were all L2?
No possible way they have 17 million world wide. None at all. They are lying.

12 servers, 17 million players.... so that's 1.41 million players per server? Yeah &*%$ing right.
Even if this is ONLY U.S. servers, the US has about 2.5 million WoW players and they have hundreds of servers. Can lineage servers hold hundreds more players then WoW servers? I think not.
According to MMOGchart.com -
L2 is at about 1 million on Jan 2008.
Any way, no matter how you look at it, no possible way L2 has 17 million players world wide. What a joke.
They HAD 17 mil subscribers worldwide from the time that NCSoft launched Lineage 2 untill now and that doesn't mean that they still have 17 mil . As far as i know , they currently have 1,2 millions subs worldwide.
Also heerobya you are full of &^#&@ . This game is still pretty good beside other mmo's out there. They have the best crafting system and a nice graphic. However , the grind is a pain in the ass , but from what i heard , now is more easy to lvl from 1-60. They have learned their leason with Lineage 2 and Aion will be a better game.

17 mil represents the number of accounts created, not on going subscribers... . This has been said over and over and over Lineage 2 is the best pvp game out right now (with eve)
That is a number they promote as total amount of people who have played the game NOT current subscribers. I really don't know why they do that because someone always misreads it and takes a poke at it.
They post their sub numbers on their site somewhere. L2 has just over 1 million active subs of which under 100k are US/EU.

L2 has something like 100 asian servers that you wouldn't be able to get info on btw.
L2 does in fact have more players worldwide. If you take a glance back at Lineage 1 days and the TV shows, and followings that game had in Asia you will see its very reasonable. Last I remember it was 14 mil on C2 time frame. There was articles you can research to verify btw.
I left Lineage 2 for WoW along time ago, and one thing you will notices is Blizzard is a great marketing machine. I have recently left WoW also due to dieing servers, and friends leaving so when they say 10 mil I am a little array to believe that also.
A side note Lineage 2 servers are seperated by each country in Asia. For example Vietnam does not intermix with Thailand, some others do comply though.

i don't get your post your saying that lineage 1 or 2 has or had more subscriber's then World of Warcraft or some other game ??
cause currently WoW has more subscriber's then Lineage 2
Lineage 2 is older game. The visuals are good but not overwhelming. Its feeling is unique. The real deal is not if it has active 17 milions subscribers or less than mega-hyped World of Moneycraft. You can play better game in Lineage 2. Is more complex. The WoW is for kids.

Those are just the NA and two EU servers. You can't see the Korean servers, of wich there are a LOT more. L2 is HUGE in Korea.
17m WORLDWIDE have TRIED L2.
2006 was 2 years ago.
The marketing you see for WoW is directed at the NA market, and only a small percentage of the people playing WoW are even located in the US, the magority come from EU and Asia.
Anyone that thinks that WoW has 10m ACTIVE subs is a tard. Just like L2 they are giving you the number of people that have TRIED the game.
WoW's propaganda is no more right then L2's. It's all self published hype.
Anyone that thinks that WoW has 10m ACTIVE subs is a tard. Just like L2 they are giving you the number of people that have TRIED the game.
If you cared to read what Blizzard publishes in their press releases you would see how they define subscribers and realize just how wrong your statement is. They are counting people who have paid for access to the game in a one month span. They are NOT counting canceled or expired accounts as you suggest.
Furthermore the are around 500 US/Eurpoean WoW servers for the reported 4.5 million subscribers. Compared to the dozen the L2 has for scope.
Here is the link so you can read yourself what Blizzard says and a snippet of the description.
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.
Look at every asian game out there and they all say they are "the most popular", "highest subscribed", "biggest mmorpg ever".
The difference between NA and EU games compared to Asian games is asians count every account ever registered from day one, even if that account was never even used. Whereas NA and EU counts are based on actual subscriptions.
You also have to remember that most asian games are free to play ( L2 is pay to play, but they count trial subs ), whereas you will struggle to find a handful of NA/EU free to play games.
Therefore it makes sense to count everyone who ever made an account when giving numbers for asian games as a whole than it would for NA/EU games, as more people will make an account and login for 5 minutes, not like it and leave in a free to play game then people who will do the same for a game which requires payment.
