Before I start, please don't tell me to quit runescape, or make fun of me, let's all be mature*snicker* about this. The recent updates including the tearing out of PKing, the ripping out of duel staking, and the crippling of merchanting have caused an uproar amongst runescape fans all over the place. Is there any way around these horrific game updates? Ranting on the forums doesn't seem to help, so would any of you like to chip in your two cents?(or 5 gp?)

Well im waiting for jagexs new mmorpg, mechscape. Hopefully the gameplay will be fun becuase I now the graphics wont be (JAVA FTW).
Face your fears, accept it. Yes it was hard for alot of people to finally throw in the towel, but bottom line is when you stop having fun play something that is fun. I tried talking to customer service prior to the updates because I was fully aware of them prior to them being announced. We knew then that it would destroy the game and that doesn't seem to be a concern of jagex tbh. There is nothing left to do now but accept that they ruined it, move on go play something else that you don;t see the entire forums filled with hate for the game. After playing wow and guild wars I wonder why I stuck around that crappy game for as long as I did. I played for years, had everything maxed that I wanted to maxed, had everything i wanted in the game. There are no rewards for your work on there only more suffering. Not worth it.
very few sandbox games out there. You can handle living in a crap game since you're going to have to put up with a few indy games that still few indy, or EvE(which is still a indy game that doesn't feel so).
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
MECHSCAPE? What are you, joking?
Boy, you seem to like my threads. Well thanks for the advice, I guess even though I can't quite go back, talking about it helps me.
Hah. I'll try to not make fun of Runescape. Too much.
The question is, what is it you enjoyed about Runescape? What is it you liked about it?
If it's anything having to do with PKing, trading, or dueling, forget it. I haven't played Runescape since they made it 3D, and know every little about the "new" Runescape - but I can already see they've irreparably destroyed trading. PKing has been gutted and replaced with the "Bounty Hunter" game. You might give it a try, but IMO from just reading about it, forget it.
If you just liked to run around killing monsters, doing quests, and stuff, you might be able to adapt and salvage your gameplay experience. I don't believe this update had a major effect on your ability to do any of the new crazy ass quests and crazy mobs they introduced after I quit. But if your reason for playing was PK, merchanting, or dueling, I can't see any reconciliation between the new updates and your playstyle.
Personally, the 3D update in 2004 ruined PKing for me, so I quit. There was no way around it, so I left. Sold my characters and left. Moved on to a new game.
Your friends in the game might be a strong motivator to stay, but consider this. They are likely to have the same interests as you, and if the game was ruined for you, it was probably ruined for them as well. This might be an opportunity to find a new game.
So my advice is this: evaluate why you liked Runescape. If you determine your interests are incompatible with the new Runescape, look for a new game that does match them.
If you're determined to look for a reason to stay, investigate some aspects of the game you might not have tried before. Skills, activities, areas, etc. You might find something you like.
You got any games to recommend that have awesome crafting and quests that are more complex than kill X and bring me Y?
In all seriousness we should just even stop with this question.(Not trying to flame you Jasthemity) Every MMO is more then likely going to have these quests. Never expect an MMO not to have the Kill X and bring me Y. These are institutions of MMO's. I can only name a few games that don't have these but there quests are repetitive. EVE for example doesn't have the kill X and bring Y quests but there quests or Missions are always repetitive sometimes receiving the same mission twice. SWG Pre Cu and CU had lair missions where you just killed the mobs till the lair stopped spawning them. If you want story line driven quests I say play GW's but it has no crafting. EVE has a strong crafting system but no storyline driven quests. It's gonna always be give and take, you'll rarely ever find a game that really delivers on both.
I'm not just going to tell you quit, but unfortunately, there are not any options. When they make an update which stripps having the ability to lend things to your friends, and takje away the one thing that was good about the game (PvP) The only possible thing you could do is grind endlessly to get your skills up.
I had the same problem as you, I could not quit this once fun game. But then I realized ghat there are many other fish in the sea. And although no other game is like what runescape once was, it was time to (unfortunately) move on.

try WurmOnline, 60% crafting(player owned towns, houses(none of which are instanced), every item crafted by players, and on the wild server what could be considered hard core PvP(item loss, skill loss, town looting if you can get in)).
and you can play for free as long as you want on a reletivly limited account(skill limit of 20 in everything). not really a selling point but you can play casually for a month if you want to see if you like it.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
If it was crafting you enjoyed, I'd suggest Ryzom, but that game got owned unfortunately.
Funny thing, I found the same feeling I had when I played RS back in the 2D version when I play Wurm online. Its a total sand box, and if that is your thing, come check it out!

I'm Mik ingame if you want to chat.

Guild wars does not have crafting , but once you adjust from crafting withdrawls you will appreciate all the content it does have. it is not level or item based as much it is more player skill and strategy. Though it is advised to make a pve character and go through the missions and unlock all the skills to make your players better it is not necessary to have fun. Do not judge the pvp on the lower level noob arenas , wait until you get to the level 20 arenas to see how level the playing field actually is. Their forums are friendly and helpful, as you can see on mmorpgs guild wars forums the community is really good. All I had to do when I started was say " I am new can anyone help me " and I had 10 people messeging me with advice, good advice and they helped me on missions. They have a good questing system, though you will find it a bit more difficult in gameplay than the too easy runescape system it will challenge you much more. They do not seem to think that a challenge is making things take longer, no instead they think the challenge is making you earn it with skill. ( which is a much better trade off than the wait for everything to happen system in runescape).
I tried that...didn't like it. I dont really see whats attractive about it. Also there were about 30 players online when i was playing, so i couldnt find anyone.
?
No hes not joking go on www.mechscapeworld.com a fansite of it tells you information about it.
?

Yeah me neither
Yeah I play it from time to time, with my friend. He is obsessed, full 20s with really good gear sets. M y biggest gripe with it is the travel between different towns, but I guess I shouldn't be talking considering Runescape had so much walking.
runescape just stinks now so quit it!
i quit rs thats right runescape stinks!!!
You can map travel on guild wars . Any place you have already been you just click on the location on your map and you travel there. How is that bad? In fact that is better than runescape because you had to walk until you had mage levels to tele there. I would say travel in guild wars is much easier than runescape.
No, I know that but there was something that bothered me. It was like I mapped traveled and then the monster was into the area past the town and I felt too lazy to walk. I think what might kill my MMO addiction once and for all is uh.....watchamacallit.....starts with uh....a C...oh right, call of duty 4, I'm getting my 360 soon.
Yes probably you cant lend your items to your friends anymore, but they have sayd they'll make a lending system
Yes probably you cant lend your items to your friends anymore, but they have sayd they'll make a lending system
Yes....but then you get the stuff back once you log off. Which actually hardly helps at all.

They're lending system is going to suck. Overall the game is ruined so there is really no point in playing anymore. But I guess if you really want to play I would recommend playing for free since membership doesn't really have many benefits anymore.
What I really hate besides the updates is the fact that Jagex doesn't care what their players think, Customer Support, Forums, Recent Updates are all evidence to that.
I cancelled my membership and I occasionally play for free although im think about quitting altogether. Membership is a waste of money. I would also recommend not playing the game just to level up or get expensive items, just play to have fun. The level ups and expensive items aren't worth the time and effort.
Well to tell you the truth in my opinion there is no way to continue runescape with the way they have made it, they are actually having an economic depression as we speak many items crucial to gameplay have gone so cheap that everyone can be good and there is no longer a challange to the game, Pking is taken out replaced with bountyhunter which is full of teaming and impossible to win at because everyone is in a concentrated area, As for the kill X bring Y or what ever your talking about i recomend the game LOTRO Lord of the rings Online Shadows of arragmar, I was a hardcore runescape player, ive played for 4 years at minimum started in 5th or 6th grade im in 10th right now and just quiting, There is no way to adapt, Ive tryed everything, if they would have left either pking or dueling id have been fine but they stripped both away. I see how they dont want to think their new enhancements were a waste of time and take them out right away, but they have to realize if they dont they will surely have a money problem later on when they start losing all of their memberships coming in then they will have to lay off people and that is when their ship sinks, at this rate they will probley have to cancel their game Mechscape which is in the making. I loved runescape. It was the best Pvp game out, besides for a little outdated graphics it was by far better than World of warcraft or anyother game out, But i think it is just time to let go and give up hope on Jagex, Them like SoE and SWG have messed up and refuse to return their games back to before they updated and rethink and come out with newer ideas. (This is neither a positive or negitive post, it is simply my opinion, no offences ment to anyone by this post)

My Two Cents:
Jagex has ruined the game , plain and simple. They wanted to take out RWT and they have, which in the process has ruined the game, EVEN with all the suggestions that players have made, some which I thought were pretty damn good. In other games there IS RWT, Who knows why Jagex cares so much.. I mean do they lose so much money that they don't want players "Buying Money and Accounts" off Ebay?
On you staying with RS? All I can say is TRY a new game... You don't have to try like WoW or anything $15 a month... Currently I am playing VCO and think it's pretty fun. All I can say, when you graduate from RS, you WILL say, "Why the hell did I even play this game?" IF that day ever comes...
I've played runescape for a year and was addicted and they have killed it so do u know any games like it before the stupid updates please tell me
