possible re-subbing..

since WoW has really been pissing me off lately and disconnecting me every hour and a half or so with no end.. im thinking of giving FFXI a full shot. I know this game is really group-related, and when i first got it i tried soloing everything.  I'm wondering alot of things before i make this game my final descision on what game to resub..

1. What was FFXI billing cycle again..? i remeber it being some where around 30-31 days being billed at the begining of each month, or is it the end of the previous month? when i first got the game i subbed in the middle of the month and ended up having to pay for both months..  trying to avoid that.

2.  what are the extra 'sur-plus' charges?  Like Character slots, and the one for the card game.  I think  the last time i played they where like a dollar extra added on too the monthly fee.  and is that character slot charge (or whatever) per character meaning you would have to make a new slot if you want more than one character?  i never was clear on that.

3. How would it be possible to play with my friends? iirc back in the day it used to drop you in a random server whenever you where done creating a character. if that hasnt changed,  is the only way to start with people you know to just keep deleting and re doing your character hoping you get the server they are on?

4. what is the most highest populated server? i iirc  in the server i was in not all the starting areas where highly populated which was also a problem.  only the human city was the highest population point in the server i was on.

my background with this game :

i think i had the absolute most worse luck with people on a personal level when i first started.. i was in the 'fairy' server, i think. the link shell and a good majority of the people i ended up grouping with where very aggressive towards n00bs.. didnt tollerate it when i asked basic game play questions and griped at me alot whenever i made miss takes,  in the end i ended up getting kicked from a group, and left on my own in the middle of a random zone, had to find my way back to town on my own and leveled down quiet afew times. it really ruined alot of the gaming experiance for me cause alot of people on that server where actually like that.

to be honest i didnt mind the grouping aspect of the game,  for the most part i enjoyed it really well. i think the core of the game was mostly just ruind for me by alot of passive-aggressive people who didnt really know how to treat others..  I know thats a common thing in alot of MMO's especially WoW. but atleast with WoW whenever i come accross someone like that all i'd have to do is put him on ignore  and be on my way,  since a good majority of that game was solo able. since FFXI is not i had a real hard time finding people my level to group with that i can agree with.

Wow, I liked how you really backed that up with why it's so gay. That's like me saying you're a gay person. Yeah, that's gonna get deleted real quick. Anyway, I think I'll post something constructive, unlike you.

    Okay OP.

    1) It's the end of every month you are basically charged. If you subbed in the middle of the month, it's suppose to be like prorated. If you can, just sub at the beginning of the month pretty much.

    2) You pretty much got that all right. You have to buy a new slot for each new character you make.

    3) Not too long ago, they did away with the World Pass thing. You can choose whichever server now.

    4) Can't really say on that one. Try going to FFXIAH.com to get an idea how the server economies are. That might help in choosing a server I guess.

Yeah, those people seemed to have forgotten they started out new too. I think it's kind of retarded that they forgot that. I know I never have. It's a very important thing to help newbies. They're going to be as high as you eventually. That means another friend you'd have to help you, as well as the other way around.  Anyway, it's worth another shot if you're gonna give it. Don't let anyone stop you from enjoying the rich story and lore this game has to offer.

First of all, Wow, trev9999... you're cool. I wish I could be like you, going into random forums and making amazing explanatory posts of why I dislike certain games.

Now OP, I just resubbed to FFXI at the beginning of February after having played WoW off and on since it was released. The first time I played FFXI was when it launched and I got to about level 30 I believe before I stopped playing.

Anyways, not-Mike answered all of your questions so I'll just respond based on my experience back, since we seem to have similar pasts of WoW and FFXI.

I started on Pandemonium this time around and I have been having a great time. I don't have a lot of time to play in one sitting like I did when I first played, so this has made me take my time with things that I would normally have rushed through. I completely forgot how to play the game when I came back so I've just made that disclaimer to every party (well, I used to, I don't now) I joined: "Hey, I'm new so be patient with me! Any tips are appreciated!" or something like that. I found this was a great way to learn about the game, and it makes players be a lot nicer to you if you show that you want to learn and are not another one of those people who are min/max everything and talk like they know everything in this game.

The difference between FFXI and WoW is, as you might remember, there is no "General chat" (ie: Barrens chat which is full of lame Chuck Norris jokes and constant whining all day long). This makes it so that you will mainly only communicate with people in your party, which in my experience leads to a better relationship with them.

Either way, I wish you good luck in whatever you decide! :)

I know Mike usually answers the questions. So, you'd usually not even look at the username that posted it. Although, I don't have a sig of a Mithra DRG, which would be a dead giveaway. :p Honest mistake.

Like I said, honest mistake. On my game hours, I'll just say I leave the game running a lot when I'm AFK in it.

Tetramaster is pretty much separate from FFXI core game.
