d00fbysanchod00fbysancho Member Posts: 219

I been playing eq2 for awhile now my g/f says she wants to try it.....never really played many games at all nor any mmorpgs so would this be a good start for me to show her what this game is about? I would like to get her into an mmo or an rpg so i have someone to play with :D Thanks in advance your friend

I would either recommend this or LoTRO

With you being her guide, it should be very easy for her to learn, the game covers all the basic's of a mmorpg and has more advanced features than most mmorpg's, so I think it would be a great learning game which will most likely spoil her for all the other mmorpg's out there,( others will argue differently)
    downside of EQ2;
    - you will need a fairly high end pc to get the best graphics out of the game.
    - It's expensive per month.
I personally think it's a great game, better than most on the market today.
    hope this helps.

15.00 a month is NOT expensive, it is the standard mmo pricing plan and it equates to 50 cents a day. MMO's in general are the cheapest forum of entertainment in existance.

That's your point of view and justification and I'm sure you will stick to it.

That is just not a point of view but a fact.

So, basically 15.00 a month is too much for you. Let me ask a couple questions and lets see if we can make it affordable.

Do you do any o the following in any given month?

    • Eat out
    • Go to a first run movie
    • smoke
    • drink
    • rent movies or games

If you do any of those items at least once in a month you can afford 15.00 a month. However if you do not do any  of those things and still cannot afford it, I would seriously reconsider playing pay to play games.

Now don't take this post as jumping on your personally as it is basically directed at anyone complaining about a monthly fee of 15.00 for a MMO which taking infalation into consideration they could be charging 30.00 a month and get away with it.

I think there are a little too many opportunities for an over-all-newbie. Im 80 and I still dont know, how adornments work =(

  • ethionethion Member UncommonPosts: 2,888

I think eq2 is a good game for a newbie to the industry.  It has an ok tutorial to kinda get you going with the basics and the game play is pretty straight forward and not very harsh when you make mistakes.  Mentoring also makes it easy for a new person to get help from more experienced people without trivializing the entire experience.

And as you grow into eq2 there is a lot of depth you uncover that will keep your intrest up where with other games you might get tired of the repetative single track...

I say give it a try.  It is a good game, and doesn't really have a steep learning curve or anything from my experience.  If that doesn't work you might try LoTRO.  Me and my husband have had a lot of luck getting our friends who have never played an MMO to start playing this game.  It helps a LOT to have someone you know playing who already knows the game well enough to give you some pointers.

Worse case scenario, if you can't get her into it, (and I hesitate to say it due to the all of the haters out there) then you could try WoW with her.  WoW is very easy to learn and play so it's easy to get non-gamers into it.

It's great being able to play with your significant other online.  Some people go out to eat and to the movies together, we spend time hunting and questing in alternate universes.  Nothing like completing a quest you had no business doing to bring you closer ^^

    Good luck!

I just started playing again and got my Wife a box to try and play also. I think you would do fine teaching your girl on this game. Just so your girl isn't my girl, Sancho.

Wow, you must be playing those crappy free games. The ONLY MMO out there that charges less than $15 a month is LOTRO and there's alot of people that think it isn't worth that.

$15 is standard. Heck, I was part of one of those devchats with the PoTBS team before it was released and asked what it would be during the chat. They said it would be $15. If you don't believe that $15 is standard, go pull up all the good games on this site and take a look.

$15 is pretty much the standard nowadays.  However there are a few games out there that charge less than $15.  For example, Final Fantasy online is $12.95 I believe per month, and there are still some $9.95 ones out there.   And while these games may not be for everyone, it doesn't mean they're "crappy."

LoTRO is $15 a month.  The $10 price they have up now is a limited time special that Turbine seems to be running on all for their games right now.

EQ2 is more processor and RAM hungry than vidcard hungry.  Her GeForce8 will work fine.

this game is great for new mmorpg players :) its very easy to get into and has a very helpful comunity...also its very casual friendly :)

  • UmbroodUmbrood Member UncommonPosts: 1,809

I would say eq2 is one of the better games out there for both casuals and hardcore.

But, the amount of content can be overwhelming.

This is not really a downside if you have the ability to cherry pick what you want and what you want to do.

The landmass alone is just staggering and there is probably today well over 5000 quests.

I returned when KOS released and I had not played since the first adventure pack released and I was then lvl 50, I found it hard to get a grip on the game again.

    Sancho,

I am a first time MMO player myself and started with EQ2. It has been a very good introduction to this type of game for me, I would fully recommend it to your friend.

One of the best things the game has going for it is the helpful and friendly community, I'm sure she will appreciate this as a first time player.

    Hope you both have fun.

    Best Regards

    Moonraker

The final fantasy price is deceptive though because you only get ONE character, period, for that price.  I am *sure* that the average FFXI player pays more than $15 a month.

    Definitely yes.

Everquest series is a true MMORPG.  It was built and designed as a graphical MUD (old text based MMO) specifically the DikuMUDS.   Now if your looking to play a no limit true roleplaying game, that is a modern/classic MMO hybred I recommend Everquest 2.

Everquest 2 isn't dancing around some license from some sacred franchise.  That is why there are like 16+ races.  Because Brad McQuad just dumped every fantasy convention into EQ.   It's a cross of D&D with LOTR and everything in between.

For people who want an evil role, there is some awesome evil toons.  For people who want pixies and fairies, there is that too.  If you want a variety of locations EQ2 is your game.

The crafting system is deep and USEFUL!  The adventuring system is good as well.  The only downside to the game is the community is mostly based on the chat channels.  You rarely see loads of players in one spot unless it's a very high level dungeon or zone.

But you can do as little or as much in EQ2 as you like and accomplish something with each session.

And there is a collectible trading card game built in.

Absolutley! I do not play it anymore, but I honestly believe it is the most solid MMO out there in terms of game enjoyment and variety. I think not trying this game is a mistake!

  • d00fbysanchod00fbysancho Member Posts: 219
