Stargate Worlds could be big!

LiddokunLiddokun Member UncommonPosts: 1,665

As an avid fan of Stargate SG-1 (I own 8 of 10 dvd box sets) and watch all 10 seasons of the show I think this mmo has a huge potential to be the Game of the Year 2008 if they do it right. When I mean do it right means the classes should be balanced or if they opt for the classless system the abilities should be interesting and varied. I think the game has the potential to offer really unique game play by incorporating problem solving mini-game and since the stargate has the potential to visit almost unlimited number of worlds its easy for the developers to add interesting stargate lore/quest/adventures and worlds to visit and explore as well as make new friends and enemies.

I too like the series (I like Stargate Atlantis even more than SG-1) and that makes me interested in playing this game.  But like you say, it has to be made right or it will just be another game that I tried but was disappointed in.

I haven't read a whole lot about it, I hope they are going to include the Pegasus galaxy along with our own and have the wraith in there as well as the go'uld.

As far as classes go, it seems to me that it would make more sense to have you character acquire abilities instead of choosing a class.  Although I could see a possible class system work too.  You could choose to be a soldier, scientist, doctor, etc.  I'll be keeping my eye on this game's progress.

I can tell you that i like the production team and i like the unreal engine.I think these guys got some skills however the series just doesn't have the following as other big name comics  or big name movies.I am afraid that no matter how good it might be this game will struggle a ton to get the playerbase.I mean i can prettymuch guarantee from what i have seen so far that these guys will blow the socks off any korean piece of junk but they just don't have the following/playerbase or formulae to gather the masses. They also lack the huge marketing ,like AOC and WAR has. Those two games already have a huge following and there game isn't even out yet, sheer hype and marketing is why.

The playerbase right now is VERY simplistic,by that i mean give them some PVP ,some water/fire/earth skills to raise and there happy. It doesn't matter if the games only content is go kill 10 orcs the whole game they don't care.It doesn't matter if the mapping work is very second rate wich ALL korean type games are ,look previous statement, that's all they want.Throw in some character customization and wowsers you got a huge playerbase. Then make the game real easy to level/F2P and again there hooked. The devs now are stooping to such low standards they are even offering dbl xp weekends that kind of stuff.Like i pointed out the players want it all hand fed to them real easy like.

This is really too bad because a production team like the stargate worlds guys might put out a ton of content and make a real classy game ,but right now peeps want simple and easy.I do hope  the best for the stargate team but there gonna need a stratedgy that outweighs there game.

With no PVP it will be big alright.. A big bust.

Just to think a movie/tv series all about violence, strugles, and different species fighting each other (exp the TV series) and yet they will have no pvp in this game.

Thats like watching Carter and Co go through the gate in season one and go sight seeing with all the Goa'uld infested humanoids of that said planet.

Thank god they are making another Stargate series, 2 dvd movies, and possible 2 original movies.  Because this is another Horizons in th making.

You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

Honestly, I am for any new MMOROG that isnt Fantasy based.

There is a poor showing in todays current Sci Fi MMORPG market. Make one Sci Fi game thats good and youll see a huge number of players flock to it.

Where did you get this from? Not only did i read there will be PVP but there will also be PVP centric servers. Not only that you share a philosphy about PVP that MANY do not as i am witness to that.PVP is for little kids who need there egos boosted.PVP belongs in first person shooters,it will never be balanced or done right in a MMO.The reason is that just like a first person shooter PVP is a whole game in itself,so devs are not going to spend the same timeleine it takes to create a FPS on a much larger scale and creatre a MMORPG at the same time.

For ANY and i mean ANY game to enter into PVP just because the little kids ask for it ,is a total waste of time ,it can NOT be done right, and why bother if it is only going to be stupified just for the sake of having it.

If you want PVP go play unrealtournament or QUake they are the 2 best PVP games ever made, that is if you are a true PVP'r like you seem to come across as being? The problem with a true PVP game like these 2 is that they are defined by actual skill, you won't be able to gank up on a lower level player wich any 5 yr old could do.BTW  i am a VERY good PVP'r and enjoy it a ton in unrealT but i can't stand all these games using stupified PVP in there games.

Yeah, games without PvP just can't work. LotRO was a huge failure.

Oh wait - it was the most subscribed to game other than WoW this year?

    Oh, never mind.

As Wizardry has said, there will be PvP. They haven't released a huge amount of info on how it will work, but what we know can be found here: www.stargateworldswiki.com/wiki/Combat#PvE_.26_PvP

No PVP in star gate worlds hm?

What if they put faction pvp in the game, where each player could play...

    Human

    Gouold

    Asguard

    Replicator

    ECT.

Each people fight, and protect  in the same story lines as the movie, but agenst each other, and each race gets its own unique weapons like in the movie...

    That would be awsome lol.

I think you are underestimating the marketing capabilities of this game, the fact that it is backed by such a huge ip Stargate and a huge Buisness MGM. Just imagine going to a movie by MGM and while your waching the previews you see a tralier of SGW. Just think of how many people would look to see what it is all about after seeing it.

I don't get how Wizardry can make these statements.  I mean opinion is opinion and all, but he's trying to state it as fact.  WoW, the biggest RPG ever has PvP servers and PvP battlegrounds.   DAoC should have demonstrated that it can be done well.  The winner of best MMORPG on this site has tons of PvP.  The winner of the best new RPG on this site has tons of PvP.

PvP is popular, it can be done right, it does work well when done right.  The problem is that a lot of people seem to equate "Level and gear matter" with "Skill is unimportant."  As if choosing the right gear/skill set isn't a skill in and of itself.

Its realy cool how theres going to be a way for all factions to join together both good and evil to fight the greater threat like the Ori.  I am glad they will put the Ori in it because they are probably the most dangerous enemies in the whole show, even more than the Replicators.

to be honest i like it when the classes arnt too balanced and im playing the overpowered class lol.. ezmode ftw

I'm really looking forward to this game.  So far everything looks like it will be a top notch game.  SG is totally exciting and seems like it is a perfect model for an MMORPG.  I mean everyone starts in one are or maybe two.  You got a series of worlds only an instant away and every one of them can be completely unique and different.   Then add some discovery and unlocking and you got a tier of content based on discovery and questing yet always just an instant away by dialing it up on the stargate.  All I can say is it sounds perfect :)

I'm so gonna preorder this game :)

There are going to be two factions. I didnt see anything lately that said there would be no PVP, in fact with the two factions they are planning I will be surprised if they dont have some PVP. Time will tell. dont panic yet. :)

There will be PVP!  It's been said many times.  Someone started a rumor to tick everyone off and it worked.

Here is a few quotes from their peeps that you can find in interviews:

CME has been placing 'roughly equal' focus on Player versus Environment and Player versus Player combat. This will be obvious in the end-game where there will be very robust content of both PvP and PvE types. Comments have indicated that there will different levels of PvP style combat and players will likely be able to contribute to PvP (or more realistically faction versus faction, or guild versus guild) goals by undertaking PvE or non-combat tasks.

    And...

Player versus player combat will form a strong part of the game, particularly for elder gameplay.[29] It is in PVP that the developers hope the revolutionary combat system will reach its full potential.[30] In addition some classes, such as the archaeologist will have viable non-combat methods to resolve PvP interactions. Exactly how this will convince an enemy Jaffa not to kill them is unknown.[31] Although only a small amount of information has been released it is known that PvP will be an opt-in system but there will be content that is accessible only through PvP.[32] PvP will be an opt-in system through use of both zoned and flagged PvP.[

The link to these quotes was given a few posts up.

So, THERE WILL BE PVP.  And plenty of it evidently.

I hope they build the game around PvP, so it will work as it should. Anyhow, looking forward for a new sci-fi MMO.

I hope that PvP is an optional part of the game with contested instances or things where you can opt into it if you want to.  Or that they have a non pvp server.  I love the concepts of stargate world but really don't care for PvP in RPG games.  For me open PvP would be a game killer.  I like the adventure, teamwork and exploring new areas and beating new challenges.

The devs are working closely with the producers of the show. That already glimpse that the game will remain close to true to the series and that the devs are getting the right support from the right people.

The Stargate Franchise is still in good shape and the folks behind it are taking good care of it.

Design wise, stargates is a blessing. It's not going to be hard for devs to add content through the stargates and pop a new address for everyone. They can add new planets, new worlds, new content at their own pace and just unlock a new gate address.
