Auction?

Does anyone know if theres an Auction House or something? And if so, will the auctions be timed?

I loved the system in DAOC where I could just throw my stuff at the house merchant and then just forget it almost.

In WOW I had to spend waaay too much time retrieving unsold items from the mailbox, however the little feature that you can view items before actually buying it is great!

I hope they are taking the best from each

DAoC's auction house sounds pretty cool...I hope they do use it with the added feature to view what gear looks like on your character.

They've been upfront about trying to combat gold farmers .... and usually one of the best way to combat it is through how the economy is set up.....and we all know gold farmers set traps on auction houses.  They've never mentioned AH's but ...Hopefully they do do something it'd suck to get something cool but not be able to sell it if your friends don't want it.

Yeah, but DAOC's system was via housing, so you actually had to have played a bit to get a house. So while it was free to put something for sale, it wasnt free to own a house, which is the best solution IMO.

DAoC didn't use an auction system. You bought a house. (Decently expensive) Then you bought a Consignment Merchant. (Relatively inexpensive) Then you listed the items you wanted to sell at a set price. It was free to list items, free to change the selling price, and free to change your mind about selling the item pre-sale.

In those regards, I much prefer it to an auction house, both as a buyer and a seller.

I do not have any information specifically about an auction house, but I feel rather certain that with Crafting and Tradeskills in the game that some form of "marketplace" is a natural adjunct.

Just a guess here, but I am feeling that along about March the devs will start an info-dump to us regarding the game's development.

Ahh so DAoC's system is like UO's merchant system...you know EQ2 had a pretty good system.  They had your general auction house system like WoW but then you could set up a market inside your house using a bullentin board (originally it rquired you to stay logged on staying there and the items could be viewed through the AH & then you could go to their house to buy it).  It was nice when they fixed that so you could just set it and forget it.

I want to spend most of my time out in the battlefield I'm all for a set it & forget it feature...I just wish they had someway to cap how much you could charge for items.  It always sucks to log on and see the 1 item you need on sale and its a really cheap item but someone is selling it for 2 million gold hoping some poor soul comes around and accidently clicks 'accept' or they just assume everyone is a rich twink so the AH is super inflated.

Well I recently saw a video (dunno the link anymore :() and they said there will be auction houses. In big cities like Altdorf there will be several auction houses so you don't get overcrowded places.

Personally, I was hoping for a way that there would be no ecomony at all.

Nothing ruins the immersion in a game more than getting 10 tells an hour of...

OMGZ, easily leveling, uber leetz gold, all for $5 per 1000gp

Nothing can stop the idiots who post this junk.  The only way to do it is to have no economy at all.

I never cared much for the ecomony anyway in games.  I'm there for exciting combat, not to play the stock market.

    Quote from link:

"For instance, take the local inns. They serve as the game's auction houses--and one nice detail is that even though there are multiple inns to prevent overcrowding, they all share the same auctions--but venture into their basements and you may find an entrance to a dungeon."

EDIT: On a sidenote, I wonder how the Chaos Inn will look like. Feels weird if it gonna be "Well lets go and grab a beer with the lads after a hard day of evilness"

There is an easy solution to this.  Put them on a thing called IGNORE.

It is a common feature in most games.  Gold farmers are nearly impossible to stop.

easiest way to stop farmer tell spam, is to have a setting lets only tells come from a given list.

Or an auto ignore feature, that if a tell or general chat message comes across that matches a rule the person is automaticly put on in your ignore list and ticket is sent for them to investigate.

neither system is to hard to create, I'm just not sure how detrimental they would be for overall server performance. The accepted user list would have no impact on the servers, but the more robust one could spawn additional processes on the server.

?? How is it an easy solution when they have a different name everytime?

One tell would be from a charater called XSDKJA837H

    The next is from JEODHSDKSLI83y!

Yes, it is nearly impossible to stop, but if you don't have an economy and/or greatly restrict trading, that is the best way to stop it.  Otherwise, yes, it is impossible to stop.

Anti-spam Add-ons work very well in WOW, guess the community will make those too?

Interesting how the company making the game doesn't hehe.

They could just filter any websites posted in general chat, tells and say.  Hard to advertise something when you can't tell people where to go to buy it.  Guild chat would still allow websites to communicate guild and game info.  Might be slightly annoying, but it's a lot better than the alternative.

Because nice as those addons are they are flawed, I have had occasions where my friends ended up getting blocked as well for innocent tells.

There's no way to be 100% sure you're blocking the right person if you just autoblock on keywords.

Imo they should just give trials a completely different server or limit their /say unless you allow them as a player to be visible.

Agree with Pheace on this. give trials their own server, or make it impossible to type certain words, unless they chose to register a creditcard (name address etc). I really hate goldspammers, and i dont see why they havnt been stopped yet.

I think that's a super idea and one I never thought of.  Give trials their own server.  It won't stop it 100%, but I'll bet will keep a lot of the spam garbage off the "paying" servers.  Would probably be less work for Mythic in keeping up with the spammers too.

I see City of Heroes did something in the most recent patch, found here http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/patch_notes.html

The item to note is about emails:

Characters below 10th level cannot send emails.

    • Characters that are not high enough level to send emails can now delete emails they receive

Again, probably won't stop it totally, but it should help a little at least.
