When TR was first announced to the public there was a huge hype and rightly so. Some of the ideas pitched by the developers were very interesting. The clone system, the customizable skills set using Logos and the epic warfare against aliens on the frontlines were all enticing. But in the end, the final product was far from our expectations. TR is nothing more a PvE game devoid of any dynamic content. I wonder if this game is going to end up just like MxO and Auto Assualt. And more importantly did NCSoft make a huge mistake in hiring Richard Garriot as the key creative architect behind the project .

To be honest i cant really say. however i did enjoy auto assault it was really fun in my honest opinion
unfortunatly Yes
the Devs have no idea in which direction they want the game to go in. So far the only things they have been doing are minor bug fixes and putting in some poorly thought out " Hybreds" , but mostly have just been nerfing items and classes. now with todays friday feature , they are laying out their PVP plans insted of fixing the game up to lvl 50 and providing contant and a reason to stay, they are now working on pvp which doenst serve much purpose if your the only one left on the server.
hopefully someone will make a good Sci-Fi mmo soon
WoW, the only one left on the server, i like that line. But i couldnt agree with you more, which is why i quit the game after the 1.4 patch. I think that if not for all of the Marketing (which TR was marketed twice as much as auto assault was) this game would have been toast a long time ago. It will definately take a seat on the bench next to auto assault and a few other MMO failures. In tim people, give it time.

I think so. You can easily tell by the empty servers (all are green, haven't seen orange since December last year). I am a very patient person, but how can I play a game, which doesn't give me an insetive to reach level 50? Right now I am 47 and have nothing to do. I cannot PvP too because ammo is so expensive for my toon (I am grenadier).
Enough offtopic. I think Tabula Rasa will not shut down like Auto Assault, but will suffer a lot and will hardly bring back all disappointed players.
Summoner2008

this is a huge problem especialy after they jacked up the prices on emp bombs as it is now my ammo costs 215 cr a shot an average stalker takes about 15 shots to take down and you wind up getting 245 cr plus maybe a green item worth 2k credits and maybe once a week i get a purple rocket launcher which no one seem s to want to buy so its cost prohibitive to even trying to loot camp most of the time i find my self using lower lvl weapons just so i can fight something with out going completly broke
Yew pre-ordered to get to test this game for 5$ played to level 15 or so and I knew this was a chocolate coated turd.. The game doesn't have enough direction and ammo is very expensive.. So much so that I was literally spending all the money I could have been making by using the newest weapons that I could find.... It would be like making auto attacks in other games cost money and forcing you to grind to level up.
Then the crafting system is a complete joke... yeah, this game is gonna end like AA or go F2P with ads to support it if they can.
Ok you've crossed the line with that one big time, this game may be pretty bad but no doubt he only gave some small amount of creative direction. He no doubt got paid a bundle to be able to attach his name to it. The guy doesn't make many games any more so why not try and milk your name for all it's worth. You know damn well you would too.
He is FAR from a failure, in fact he is more successful than prob 99.9999% of the people who ever even played a video game.
His early games were indeed revolutionary. The early ultima games were one of the biggest reasons gaming advanced as well as it did. imo they were the first games that I was truely addicted to. They showed how a story driven game can bring the player into a whole new world even if they were little white blocks on a monochrome monitor.
Show some respect kid.
First of all I appreciate your civil tone in your response.
Second, having accomplishments many years ago is different than stepping up to the plate today. RG, or rather the people who actually made this game did fail. Long ago RG did make a good game, but like a sequal to a good movie, he just couldn't re-make the magic.
TR is just not a good game compared to it's competition, but the sad truth is the MMO genre as a whole is hurting, TR does nothing but add to the "me too" slew of games that offer nothing new. Personally, I think RG should have at least a modicum of dignity and bow out. Barring that, NCSoft should show him the door.
*sorry for spelling errors, posting from PS3, no spell check.*
EDIT: BTW, I'm almost 35, haven't been a kid since the 90's LOL.
I would have to say most likely yes. Lots of good ideas but you cant play ideas sadly.
As for the cynical way they foisted an OKish engine with a bunch of place holders instead of a game on the paying players. Well they deserve to fail hard.
If it survives a year I'll give it another go could have been good if it had some depth and sophistication to discover.
As a current player I would have to say no I don't think so, I see people everywhere in all the zones and these forecasts of doom and gloom are just more of the usual MMORPG.com game bashing that infests every thread.
Seriously? I'm getting pressure from an allied clan to accept their overflow in recruits - that dosen't indicate to me a lack of players.
A good community is starting to form in and out of game and I think more than a few of the posters here are going to look a bit silly a year from now.
Glad you are enjoying it. Im certainly no hater. I must admit at first it had quite a wow factor. After playing for a week or so I pretty much felt i had 'done' it all. It was released way to soon imho. I guess that some are prepared to accept less than I am. I felt cheated despite the cool setting it really has no more than Dungeon Runners or Mythos (both free to play 'Action MMOs'). Half the skills where (and reading the releas notes still are) place holders. Mythos which is in beta already has a better 'feel' as far as skills go. Balance is always an ongoing thing in these sort of games but TR had no sembalance of anything close to balance large numbers of skills were clearly place holders. This sadly made class diversity non existent. (Medic!)
Anyway while I am certainly no hater and even am pragmatic enough to have another go in a year or so it does leave a bitter taste. I think its very important to send a clear message to these publishers that it is un aceptable to foist stuff in this state on us, personally I think it verges on fraud frankly. Theres very few other arenas where people would accept this sort of thing. It should be F2P at the very least.
You guys must be doing something wrong - at lvl 36 exo I have 3.5 million in the footlocker and half a million credits in my backpack.

there is no comparison between a lvl 36 exo and a lvl 50 medic big difference in ammo pricing an at the current price for ammo per shot it costs far more to shoot something then the ammont of credits you recupe from the npc thus putting you into a hole when you get to the higher lvls when i was lvl 36 i carried around 6k ammo on me now im lucky if i can keep 2 k ammo om me at these prices but in all reality this would prob be better off as its own thread as the cost of ammo doesnt have much to do with how the game is gonna wind up
I disagree, I have been playing TR from launch and at the very least I find it refreshing and I still love it. Like any game if the devs don't develop it right or quick enough for the fan base then of course its in trouble. However it has been great so far and if they add some great content and core PvP then it has a very long future. I have been enjoying the game for the storyline as well. Its one of the few MMO's out there that actually has one and focus's on it. I find its either love or hate with TR. I recommended it to 4 friends. 2 are still playing and loving it and the other 2 went back to some fantasy POC. (wont mention the name). And all range between 25-36 years old.
I find the people who have an issue with TR are the ones that maxed out and waiting for end content. I have started 3 characters and have each one up to level 23 or so. I am taking my time on purpose so I don't burn out so fast. If you max out in 2 weeks after playing 24x7 then no MMO is going to work for you.
Besides a report I read today is that they are pouring a few more million into this game so I doubt its going to be shelved any time soon.
I didn't max out and do everything by any means, I got to level 32 and got so totally bored of holding down the mouse button endlessly with no need for much thought at all behind the fight ahead tactically.
In my opinion it was a great vision, but poorly exectuted. Far too few skills to utilise to keep me interested, fighting seems fresh at first but ends up being very drab indeed.
1.4 was the nail in the coffin for me I'm afraid.
For the person who said to show some respect to RG - why exactly? Doing something amazing years ago was great yes. But taking his own words tha new mmos would copy TR and TR would set a new standard, then present a steaming pile of turd for us to play - I cannot respect that at all. The guy is clearly dillusional and way out of touch.
RG chose to put his name on this, he will have to carry the can for it like a man.
And as you are a grenadier, i assume you are complaining about the cost of ammo for propellant guns... which even for a level 46 flamethrower uses ammo that costs 35 a round... not 215 (hell even the select grade cannister costs 85 credits). The propellants that use power cells are even cheaper to run.
If you were talking about rocket launchers on the other hand, then yes they are expensive (although they are NOT rapid firing, unlike propellant weapons).
Ammo pricing is something hard to balance UNLESS they limit each weapon to using ammo specific for that weapon (ie chainguns use one type of ammo, propellants use another, pistols use another, rifles etc)
Then again i do know someone who has a guardian alt to finance their Grenadier... its the way he plays the game though, as he uses only weapons that go BOOM (ok chaingun, propellant and also rocket/grenade launchers)... he can easily go through 10-15K of ammo a night, but even he has stated that since the 1.4 patch his running costs have dropped and not increased....
On a side note though, i dont PvP, even though i can afford to, as I am awaiting the Contract system that they have said that they are working on and also the safezones to kick in (as i hate being hospital camped....)
Why oh why couldnt they have done something useful with Logos instead of the brainless FedEx assignment in pokemon style - gotta collect them all junk they have in game ?
FUNCOM - putting the FUN in disFUNctional !
More is still yet to come though (not to mention that past Plateau quests to get the logos do run out, and not all the logos in every zone have missions to collect them, only as it were "ability" ones do, hell Vortex (essential for signature abilities) is a right whatsit to unlock unless you know which ones are required, and where they are)
Yes the other way would be to use them to "customise" abilities... but then it still becomes a case of "gotta catch em all" to have the best abilities.... either way it still ends up being the same...
THen again i do like the little voice over that the "core" logos give you when you collect them, telling you a small bit of the history/background of the game as well.
But each to their own... YMMV but i do like the logos background as well
Summoner2008 is a grenadier i am a medic and lvl 50 , elite grade canister costs 215 cr a piece and elite grade power cells cost 100 cr a piece and no i dont think 80 cr a piece was to small a price for emp bombs and now at 10000 cr each they are far too expensive and as of patch 1.4 unless your a spy gaurdian or a sniper then the game has become very cost prohibitive to play they have nerfed medic so much that we barly do any damage as it is ie a lvl 50 medic is easily out damaged by a lvl 40 spy
Thats all swell - I am referring to an actually FIRST MMO to allow people to make their own spells from Logos (legos ) a certain mixture of logos + character attributes + hybrid + class = something slightly or radically different for each player.
Asheron's Call allowed you to play with spell ingredients a bit - although it was somewhat predictable it was fun as hell to fire off a more potent version of the spell with a risk of burning expensive comps. DAOC allowed crafters to *supercharge* an item at the risk of blowing up - see where I am going with this ?
FUNCOM - putting the FUN in disFUNctional !
Have medics got a role now? Apart from shooting stuff like every other class really.
no theres no role still medics have a few buffs that are pretty crappy now the heal sucks and mostly dont do much damage
this game could easily be something great. ive heard that the devs had all sorts of plans for the game, i.e. new worlds, weapons, vehicles, all sorts of good stuff. now all they have to do is go through with it. ive been wanting to get this game for a long time. i love the gameplay, spent more time in beta than any MMO ive actually subscribed to lol. its an excellent game that just needs some major additions. it wont bite the dust if the devs can help keep it up.
I've said this at the start of the game and i'll say it now... i dont think its worth its price. its a good game but the price is wrong for the content.. i've played free games with more content.. so
