FLS doesn't want you to see the population numbers anymore

Yeah , that's a good sign for the game

They are taking out the /who count next patch - as in you cannot do a /who and see how many are online on your nation at that time

They say it's try and cut down gold farmer spam - which of course is ridiculous because they can see names and get a list and spam away without that and will

What it really does is keep anyone from easily noting there's only 56 players online during primetime on their nation and people comparing numbers easily lets others see just how low the pops are

Folks were adding it up at times from each nation and showing total server pops of 300 -400 at times and they are making sure you cannot easily let that be known now

Good job FLS - run scared even more and spin it to blaming the gold farmers

I expected this.  It is not in the interest of any company that runs an MMO to make numbers easily accessible.

Lame to blame the Gold Farmers though.

EDIT: The next step will be to make their forum 100% subscriber only for read as well as write.

I was actually surprised that such a command was accessible to players and not to developers only to begin with.  Gold farming bots can use mouse scripts to check the color of a pixel, such as the descriptive words for population counts on the server selection screen.

    And that is why...

Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

Wow...I'm surprised the game tanked as fast as it did. Even Vanguard hobbled along longer before it was obvious it was in real trouble.

They are talking about taking out the /who because everyone is griping people are using it for PVP Purposes!

Games with healthy subscription numbers are always up front about them.

The command /whocount is used to get numbers, not /who . Anyone using /who and manually counting is an idiot. The command is being removed for the very reason FLS stated, to help minimize the amount of gold spam.

    They do this for LOTRO

I would guess that now that a small number of players have hit level 50 and are ganking anything that moves that the pop numbers are dropping like a lead weight.

Nice move FLS - forced PvP.

WWIIoL has a few "subscriber only" forums too.

It does make a certain amount of sense - it's a space for the actual players to talk, argue, bitch, moan, whine, praise, gloat and show off without anyone from the "outside" either butting in or being put off by their comments (which might be taken out of context if you do not understand the game).

Then again, there are still forums which are open to the public - for people to ask questions about the game etc.  FLS only has one open forum at the moment - and it is only supposed to be for asking questions about game keys and installers.  Fortunately they seem to be relaxing the rules on that - but the Moderation over there is "erratic" so that could change at any time.

The problem is that ostensibly blaming the farmers as the reason for getting rid of the population numbers also means the battle is being lost against them.  Now the farmers are not even bothering with tells anymore, they just spam the nation chat (In French Florida yesterday afternoon, one farmer was spamming at a rate of one "are you annoy" per 30 seconds).  Surely FLS must have seen it coming.

Getting rid of the /who is justified, as it made the spammers' job easier.  But the /whocount as well, which only gave you numbers and certainly did not help the spammers?  I find that difficult to swallow, and I suspect the conspiracy theorists might be right this time.
