Vanguard or EQ2?

Rott23Rott23 Member UncommonPosts: 56

So I'm trying to fill my MMO withdrawls till WAR comes out.

I have Vanguard and EQ2 already purchased from long ago, I'm just trying to decide which one to resub to in the meantime. Oh, I also only have the EQ2 expansions up to KoS.

My question is this; Do you think it would be more fun to play Vanguard to go exploring and general just delve into the game a little deeper? Or play EQ2 for the easy soloability since I have a time slot when not many people ar online?

I'm rather indifferent eitherway, for the most part - I just need some swaying :P

Thanks!

Well if you do start in EQ2 be in mind you cant really do the PVP servers as its incredibly hard to start in those straight off without being ganked nonstop or buying gold etc.

I cant really talk about VG as i only played it in Beta and apparently it was a disaster, although some other people say its better now.

If you can afford it, sign up to station access for one month and try them both and after play the one you like the most.

If it came to a choice I would go with Vanguard. This is just a quick brief of my views, I'm sure people will disagree.

The classes are more fun and better implemented than EQ 2.

The game world is more breath taking compared to EQ 2.

A lot of the bugs and performance issues have been fixed with another game update going live at the start of march. The game still has issues but nothing game breaking.

I enjoy the combat system over EQ 2.

If you going to play EQ 2 you are going to need the last 2 expansion packs, or you will be confined to the old world so may have problems grouping as you level.

pretty hard to say, since both aren't really a good fit for your situation. I mean, both needed a lot of time invest in it. and you want to move to something else soon. I would rather go for a single player game or a console game till WAR come out. Or I would play a free mmorpg (or try them all till you poke and go play something else ;)

In other word, playing an mmorpg while waiting for another is .. not really a good thing. You won't enjoy the game at 100% cuz you're waiting something else.

Me, I'm waiting AoC ..what I'm doing, I'm playing Monster hunter freedom 2 on my psp. otherwise, I'm watching TV with wife and playing a bit with my son.

True.  If I could, I would prefere to wait for the new 2008 releases as well, but I don't know how much more I can take! I've been putting off playing an MMO for WAR and it keeps getting pushed back so it's been a long time. Been playing consol for many months now.

I'm leaning toward Vanguard now, mainly because I think the old world content is going to get boring quick. Plus, I've put way more time into EQ2 so it's not as new as Vanguard would be.

Also, If all the bugs (or even most) are out, it's worth giving it a shot. Thanks for the replies!

I have within the last 2 months played both games, so I have a pretty up to date view, although I played pvp servers in both games.

VG's lore is totally wretched unless you have a VERY active imagination. I'm playing it now, it is very generic and empty. Open pvp is cool though, and there IS a sense of freedom in the game. Besides Khal and the Orc starting area, the immersiveness and overall pve is below DAOC levels. The combat is pretty fun.

EQ2 is always solid, I'd recommend that.

if you do play EQ2, make sure to buy ROK  (to get both expansions)

EOF added new content for *all* levels 1-70

and the content is largely better than the older areas of EQ2

Vanguard is the better mmo in my opinion. And now's the best time to join the ranks with all the updates that has taken affect and more coming.

EQ2 is a much better game, but you'd need to buy the latest expansion.  If that's a problem then go with vanguard

I usually play something F2P between mmorpgs or dive into a FPS or RTS for a while.
