So looks like they're making a new FFXI type of game, which would be great!

That article was back in april of 2006. Soon it'll almost be 2 years old and we have yet to hear anything further.

i was just wondering what the final fantasy online game was like im looking to buy it but im not to sure
They still are working on it but square is trying to put all their attention on their singe player rpgs first at the time such as The Fabula Novela Crystalis series which is FF13, Versus 13 and the Cell phone FF. Plus there is also The Last Remnant squares first rpg using the Unreal 3 Engine. But they are using the same engine for their next mmo that they are using for the FF13 and Versus 13 which is The Crystals Tools Engine that they developed themselves for their next gen titles. And their next mmo code named "Rapture" for now.
