Recommendation for a game?

Hi :)

New to the forums here. I read the post about what free MMORPGs are out there, but I was curious what other players know. I am waiting for the WoW open beta (the brats didn't pick me to do closed), and I'll be buying it for me and my wife, however, I need something to occupy our time with now. Fairyland is going p2p, and I refuse to shell out the kind of money they're asking for, for such a buggy game. I'd prefer something free, or in beta, however, if the game's not that much, and I don't have to buy the software, I don't mind paying per month. I'm looking for a game with crafting that's meaningful, friendly players, hackfree, and most of all, fun. If you guys could share your opinions and games, I'd be very happy. Thanks in advance!

If you like sci-fi, EVE online has a 14 day free trial and if you like it you can find the game for $10 on Ebay or buy it for $20 with the CD key from eve-online.com.  It's a little slow, but has potential. Hint: Find a good corporation and it will make all the difference in the world.

Not so much into the sci-fi. I love star wars, but i found the SWG was a bit lame. Not to mention most sci fi ones focus on ranged combat. I need something with melee, ranged, and magic. I've played EQ, didn't like it that much. Everyone I met wasn't friendly or helpful. I've heard some good things, and a lot of bad things, about Horizons, so if anyone else has any suggestions to me (fantasy please), I'd appreciate it.

    Try DarkSpace http://www.darkspace.net

A free 5 day trial coupon is provided after you have validated your email address.

It's hackfree, it's fun and it's full PvP. And even the newest players have an important role in how the future develops.

P.S. It's also a free download and whether you choose to subscribe or not there is always the Newbie server to play on which does have some restricted options, but even subbed players can be found messing around in there and generally helping new players to learn.

Alright, how about not a scifi one now please? I really am looking for a traditional fantasy MMORPG. Obscure or not, doesn't matter to me. Just worthwile crafting and all the elements you expect from a fantasy MMORPG.

Too many titles to choose from.  I suggest to wait for the 2 big ones wow and eq2.  Atleast then you will start fresh with the rest of the public.  Good luck in choosing.

I Plan On playing WoW, however, the open beta is at least a month, if not 2 or 3 away. Most major companies out there have a release date of 12/07/04 for WoW. As for EQ2, after my bad experiences with EQ, i doubt I'd play it. Either way, those betas are long off. What I need is a game that's running now, open beta or p2p that's actually worth it. AC2 is good, but I want something a little more than what it offers. Shadowbane well, I didn't care for at all. If anyone else has a suggestion, I'd be willing to try it.

I played tibia and i hated it....i mean HATED IT.  I hated it so much i stopped playing after an hour.  Man i hated that game so much.  But anyways thats me...you are different. lol.  I also played SWG for about 6 days and got bored with that.  But i know hardcore star wars fans love every little thing about it.  I mean it is a great game if your into that.
