This interview is not new, but I just read it, and don't really like the direction the devs were heading at the time this was posted. I assume it is still the direction the game is headed.
I am not impressed with what he says about MMO's needing locked classes or "specified roles"
Not impressed with how much all the devs interviewed are into WOW. Also how linear they are seeming to head.
Looks like their MMO is going to be the Wow copy LA wanted to turn SWG into.
Fallen Earth is looking better and better.

WOw .. it sounds great.
It is going exactly the direction I think MMO should go .. let the players consumer more interesting content. Questing is my fav part of WOW (and it beats grinding on EQ, or insane PvP on UO) and it looks like Bioware may be able to inject *real* story into quests.
However, the guy is WRONG on one count. You level FASTER questing in WOW than grinding. Thus, wow players are incented to grind quests at different places.
He is right on the count about polished.
GFW: Repetition of the same instances and raid dungeons is a huge part on what constitutes "end-game content" when you reach a level cap in an MMO. What's your plan for end-game content?
JO: We have big plans for end-game content that we can't talk about because it's a major part of our design. We think it's a very important aspect of the game, and we don't want players to be stuck grinding through the same content over and over again -- I know when I hit level 60 in WoW, I pretty much quit. So whatever end-game model we have, it's not going to be that.

Endgame is why I don't try most new MMOs. I assume that it is neither Raiding nor RvR. So, I am definitely interested...but I also have a cynic part in me that is overly negative...yet, I have no reason to be negative...so I will chew my nails and hope for the best. :P

I just hope they anounce it soon. This wating to be announced is for the birds lol Bioware just knows how to make great games. No matter what kind of mmo this will be I am confident it will be really good.
Why does there have to be a "end game" I mean why can't I constantly be improving my character?
Wow, your reading comprehension must suck. I even had to create an account here to point tha out.
There were no mention that "MMO's needing locked classes", that's an interpretation you chose for yourself. They do talk about there having to be roles and personally I agree, it's important that players will have the ability to place themself in a role - otherwise everyone runs around being "jack of all trades".
But this doesn't in any way have to mean that there is "locked classes" or that you'll need the "holy trinity" to be able to clear content.
Onto "linear".... are you kidding me? How did you figure that? Personally I got the oposite feeling from that interveiw. They don't want it do be linear, and it hopefulle won't be either.
Regarding your reaction on the fact that they seem to enjoy WoW, I blatantly assume that you're one of the so called "WoW haters" that seem to strive on these forums. Just cause they play WoW doesn't mean they'll make a WoW-clone.
With what I read from that interview I'd be inclined to believe it will be nothing like WoW, but I can only hope they will bring the same polish to their game as Blizzard did with WoW.
I am looking forward to Biowares future MMO at this moment.
Huge world, extensive story-telling, less grind, an immersive gaming experience where your choices matter for you characters development. Good character customization, not forced to groups or raids to enjoy content.
This is what I understand they are aiming for in their vision for this game when reading this interview. Now if this will end up being the reality of the game when released I have no clue obviously, but I like where they're heading so far
Maybe, just maybe, the new Bioware game will come out, and some people will think that SWG is still the better Star Wars game.
(Note: Obvious assumptions are made)
Because the amount of content a developer can make is finite. Either you have to scale up the monsters as player char improves, or characters will be overpower compared to monsters, or you have to make char improvement irrelevant (i.e. end game).
In another article he talks about, in regards to skills and character building, how too many choices can be crippling and that WoW did a good job with this.
That is what has me worried the most. I have yet to see an RPG that gives me as many choices as I would like, and I guess BioWare won’t be the ones to do it.
