Im so pissed at hackers

EDIT: lets jsut let this fall away with no replies and stop bumping as it was a hacker and by coincidence used my card for SOE.

So i havent used my soe account in 2 years almost. the last billing date was late 2006. All of a sudden they have started charging 100-400$ US in the last few months!!

There is no customer support numbers, nothing. I cant stop the bank from letting them take my money, more importantly when i log on to my account there is no history of these charges! Ive looked at all the games that soe owns and ive never opened another account with them.

WTF is going on!! Please help so i dont have to close my bank account.

Sounds like someone has hacked your Station/'soe.com account and got your cc details and used them to buy for themselves some Sony products. Find out where those products were shipped to.

Of course you can stop your bank from allowing them to charge you. Call your bank. This is a no brainer.

Secondly, go to their website, find a number for customer support/billing.

Here, this took me moments to get:

    http://www.station.sony.com/en/services/help/customer.vm

edit: hint, scroll down. There is also a number but there is also live chat help.

chances are its not really SOE thats taking ur money, but, someone posing as SOE, as for your bank not stopping those charges, I'd be taking the matter over your local Bank Managers head, because your bank actually does have the power to stop a charge being applied to your account, you might also want to take a hard copy of the webpage that shows your account at SOE, and show them that you may be a target of a set of fraud charges.

  • Zephyn02Zephyn02 Member Posts: 148

Ouch! Call your bank and get a stop payment as a fraudulent charge; it might not be SOE but it might be that someone got your bank account information.

Go after the bank first; good luck with that one buddy.

It says its being charged by SOE in the transactions from the bank!!! so answer there!!

I had some credit card fraud and the bank had me do a few easy things.

REALLY REALLY SHOULD DO a credit freeze by going to any of the 3 biggies, only need to do it once and will share with each other. It freezes anybody opening/closing credit/accounts for next 3 months. I used www.equifax.com but you could use the other ones. BTW, very easy to do.

Also, ironically they said often times you will see a "small" amount charged to an account and it is often a thief trying to see if the account is first open. It could be like 50 cents on your statements or something rather tiny.

Your bank should be able to get all your money back since YOU did not do it. It's a pain in the butt, however, it should get fixed or your bank is "questionable". Remember squeeky wheel get's the grease.

Good luck, I feel your pain but it should have a happy ending.

As a side note, it was interesting that my credit card company who is very reputable has SOE on a "list" of potential fraud alerts meaning they would not let a charge go through to SOE until calling me personally(it was a pain registering and setting up billpay).  This is NOT a SOE thing but rather I guess there a lot folks out there trying to do fraud with SOE.

You cant get credit card or bank information from SOE account. The SOE store is not linked to your account (unless they changed this year) you have to open another account and it  use to require cvs number each time.

SOE exchange unless changed is linked through paypal and uses ebay software.  Sounds fishy to me, did you boy/girl and give them your information?

  • RedwoodSapRedwoodSap Member Posts: 1,235

It probably has something to do with that new company SOE is giving access to their games for goldselling. You should close your bank account if you still have money left, SOE will just tell you to piss off. They have the worst customer service.

Close your bank account and open a new one.  It is really simple.  Depends on the bank but they can stop any charges including Auto charges.

Second, doesnt matter what it says is charging your account.  I can charge your account and have it should up as a Paypal charge.

I bet it is not sony but someone hacking your SOE account and using your CC info.

    Sooner or Later

So is it 100 or 400?

Sounds like a plot to discredit SOE to me. What are they charging you for? Where's your receipt? You talking about credit card charges or bank charges? I didn't think SOE dealt directly with banks. And why are you posting here instead of calling SOE to find out what they're doing? What is it you think the people here can do for you?

    I call BS.

You couldnt tell me more about this could you?

I guess ill close the bank account, anyone have ideas on gettin the money back though?

lol ok im just makin up all this to discredit soe. SOE Discredited itself plenty enough by ruining the only good mmorpg still left(swg)

I just am generalizing without real figures because what is the difference when im only asking an online forum for suggestions.

Don't take it personally, I'm not ragging on you. But if you want advice, call up SOE if you don't understand any of this, and ask them what they have charged you for. Check your mail for any receipts for online purchases. Check your account as well, make sure nothing has changed.

If nothing works, contact your local government office/city hall and get in touch with a consumer rights division, find out what you can do.

I realise SOE are often as dumb as shite, but starting off topics that you're mad at SOE in capital letters just doesn't really get your issues across. Half the gaming world is probably pissed at SOE...

What do you mean "any ideas on getting the money back?". This is not hard. Call them up and tell them that they are billing your account when you did not give them permission to. And you don't have to cancel your account though it couldn't hurt.

You can just block them from taking money out. Sort of like putting a stop payment. You can speak about all of this with your bank and with SOE.

Edit: that is not what my bank told me when I wanted to stop charges from incurring. But if for some reason your bank says they can't do it, then close the account and call Sony and yell at them.

I dunno about that, snagging CC info from a company like SOE is really, really, really hard to do. That information generally isn't stored (and should never be) in a way that it can be reassembled and used. But if the money has come off your CC, you need to call them and refute the charges. Check your CC's website for unauthorized transactions.

Seriously, call SOE and ask them why they've processed these transactions.

This story is complete fabrication.  No-one is dumb enough to ask a forum for advice about credit card fraud without contacting their bank/credit card agency first.

    Complete rubbish.

OP, you have full control over your own bank account, one quick call would have the charges stopped and banks can and do stop automatic charges with one quick call.

If this scenario is true, I hope you get to the bottom of it, and I have no doubt you would get your money back ...

yes im 19 so i havent learned alot of the ways that type of stuff is run. The CARDOWNER has called the bank, ill let u guess who that is. Just its my fault the card was stolen because i play online games and so im getting quite the trouble.

The bank has said the only way to stop them is closing the account which is a pretty painful process. Though hopefully as someone earlier said theres a way to fight and get the money back after the fact.

To Tetters: apparently this bank will not stop Automated digital charges with one quick call like everyone seems to think . I really thought that was true too but apparently not here.

Well, wait a minute. It's not your fault if you just entered your cc# into Sony's system. They use a billing system that is going to be pretty hard to hack.

My question would be, what else did you use your card for?

Granted, nothing is fool proof but we are talking about sophisticated billing systems when it comes to large companys such as sony.

I am thinking it is maybe a hacker that hacked all of secondlife(if youve heard of it) almost a year ago. The whole company reset every single persons password and just stated that files were compromised and thats it. Which is bullshit in my opinion, the company should be required to tell you if your card was stolen or not.

So maybe the hacker has all these cards and now a year later or more he decided to use mine for an soe account?

I have no idea. but still makes me feel like shit that my cash is being used for lame soe games/by a hacker.

  • VortigonVortigon Member UncommonPosts: 723

Its statements like this that confirms to me that you are not being truthfull.

You're more bothered that your cash is being used to pay for a SOE game????? Personally I would be more concerned that someone was stealing my money and destroying my credit rating. LOL.

Your credit card is protected from online fraud if its one of the big CC companies.  One phonecall to your credit card fraud line will mean you will get all your money back within a few weeks.  And one phone call to your banks fraud line will get your charges back and any money lost within a few weeks.

    End of story.

If the bank cannot stop transactions like that, I would considered to change bank anyway :)

If its a transaction you never asked for (and its SOE) you should talk both to the bank and SOE. Both party will go long to when it comes to frauds, and all transaction is/should been logged (including IP's). Have seen card frauds with alot more that 400 dollars with my current bank (family), and the cardholder never lost a daim of it. If it's your own fault (forgetting canceling or regretting any shopping), the bank will probably find out when investigating the fraud.

IF my bank wouldn't take fraud serously, I would change all my relations to that bank right away and never look back.

Ok i said that to maybe try and be humorous instead of terribley depressed about something i can do virtually nothing about.

So i logged into my station account it said my everquest 2 account was pending with 9 day nonrecurring bill. so i decided to reupdate it and see if it worked. It worked and i thought it was just a trial account. but im guessing now, sony just reenabled it when i signed in. It still has shown none of the charges in my payment history for the account though.
