A plausible solution to the problem is to simply agree with the WoW cloneboys.

Prevent them from searching for more than that simple video or screenshot they based thier opinion on, and becoming interested in the Warhammer world. In other words, improve WAR's future playerbase by keeping the lot of them far far away.

OP - Excellent viewpoint tbh, I for one am waitng for it to come out. Fortunately I never jumped on the WoW wagon as a few friends of mine had. What some people realise, is that the most successful companies out there do 1 thing and 1 thing only, they cater to the masses. Sure not all will be successful, but the ones that are, have huge player bases and make fat $$ off it too.

Almost every mmorpg out there has things in it that people like, and it will draw them to the game. Realisticly it will be some time before the population of gamers mood changes were they want something far different. Until then all we can all do is wait for a game to release, hoping it will be to that individual's tastes.

Easiest way around disappointments is to play a broader field of genres of games. Tired of that boring grind? Try an FPS, or Some ActionRPG, or some hard core PvP game. Thats what I did, now I play a growing list of different games, and less then half are mmorpgs.

Maybe we will get lucky enough to get a groundbreaking game sometime in the next 5 years so some can call it "original" that way the can say all games after that are "clones"

     Nice :) and agree

    Playing: Not much actively.
Games played: to many to list, been playing MMO's since 2001

  • If you know anything about Warhammers history, you would know that WoW probabily ripped off Warhammer more then any other game in history. WoW's art style is a 100% rip-off of WAR which came out some 15 years prior to WoW. There is basically nothing original in WoW at all, it's just the best polishing job of other peoples concepts that has ever hit the MMORPG market.

Art Style + Backstory = War Ripoff.

UI + Quest system + inventory system = AC2 rip off.

Raid system = EQ rip off (and they stole EQ's raid developers to boot).

    Battlegrounds = Countless other MMORPG's.

Me, I just like to give credit where it is due... Blizzard is the master of copy, paste, polish and publish and they take very very few risks.

This is all true in my mind. But time made me realize I wish more were as good at taking decent or good things and polishing them up to great.

Give credit where credit is due indeed. I think seriously nobody else does what they do and that means alot. If in the end they were responsible for getting MMO's into the USA's conscience they should be awarded for making all our online lives more fun.

The fact that others copy them ( not War, Im well aware) and many think this ruins things, its the fault of other companies really isnt it? We do definetly need better, deeper, more realistic MMO's, and certainly need less linear paths.

But I suppose that cannot take away from blizzard that they do what they do when all others doing what they do never fair as well.

    EDIT

Occured to me they doubled the US market and did that almost glitch free, ESP when I compare it to other games with far less accounts to handle. When I hear someone complain about bugs in WoW I do have to giggle. I mean when I think of how much more bug free it is com[pared to games I like more then WoW, and they didnt have anywhere near 6 million pop on to make it worse. And then lag was not near an issue, when It does happen In WoW I feel like I am being cheated because it usually runs so well. That is a change.

So I hope that games with better ideas learn from blizzard what to do correctly and then we got somthing special.

Um huh, troll you mention? that you?

I ask because I am the opposite of a blizz fan, in fact for now I suffer because of them, But true is true ey? Maybe I missed in your clever words what I said that was wrong?

In the end whatever game you or I thinks is the best ever will in fact have blizz to thank. because now companies are investing more money into MMO's and more people are playing, so that great game was givin that chance to be better and more polished through example of production.

I do already know the facts for what Blizzard has done, and I do can thank them for that. The reason I replied to the person is because he's been posting like that on this WAR forum. I'm sorry, it is I who's just tired of this person. But believe me, I find many games great, even WoW... though it's not my kind of gaming, since it's very gear-pending and such. But still, it's great. But I do wonder if you, Ram, have seen this person making senseless posts which is usually "WAR = WoW clone" on WAR forum... you're bringing a topic about WoW's success, and it doesn't matter a thing for me when it comes to this troller. Even though, people do have opinions of course. But posting the same troll-posts over is just foolish. So I basically gave him his own medicine.

Edit: Seems like I've catched your older quote, before you edited it to the "retard part". I don't want to make a "retard" reply on you, because I am not as immature as you currently were. :P

Of course I am, that's why coming from me it's high praise.

Too bad I'm looking for something diferent for my next MMO, so I guess I'll be checking out AoC, action oriented combat + mounted combat = diferent enough.

I hope all of you realy have the fun you expect from WAR, but somehow I doubt it.

You're right, aside from being slightly similar looking, they have a totally different game design.  Of course WAR does have that RvR game, maybe Blizz can borrow that aspect for their game?  Considering the above list I think it's only fair.
How does PreCU SWG stack up against that list?  Or UO?  Or Everquest?  Or EvE?  Or any damn game made before WoW exploded?
But then I am one of those speacial ed dropouts what needs to go back to tha skool ta do som mor booke learnin before i can learn what the word "copy" means.
I think you do because you list mostly things that all mmos copy one time or another.

     please fail somewhere else.

"one time or another" but not all in one game which is the case with Warhammer which was my point when I directed you to look at all those other games.  Do you understand my point now?  All of the above aspects are in both games or at least the devs have said they are in WAR, and that list is in no way complete since the game is not complete so you can expect even more.

Let's get one thing straight  - I am not a massive fan of WoW.   I have been following WAR for a long long time and was very excited about it being released, but as time moves on I am seeing WAR taking on the shape of WoW and it bothers me.  Why don't any of you cringe at the sight of it?  To not speak up is to accept that WoWification is the right direction for a MMORPG game to take.

Now is the time to raise concerns and question the devs reasoning on game design; not to shrug our shoulders and say all games are like that these days and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

It's your opinion, dude. If you want to play AoC, then go for it. I find AoC to be a cool game, as I think of many other mmorpgs (the ones which will release much later). Though, some researching wouldn't hurt, right? And if you research a little, you'll see that WAR and WoW are actually different. :P I'm actually looking forward to play AoC, but I do like to see how WAR is going to be. One of the reasons why I'm looking at WAR is that I love the lore. But since my friends are going to play AoC, I'll join  and explore the world of Hyboria.

Edit: I guess this will be my last post, so... have fun with the games you're looking forward to, everyone!

Hmm ok but with my experience what offers the most dissapoints the most. WAR doesn't offer much new but it promotes little done well

Bah, I think someone should write up on all the stereotypes of war vs wow threads ( I am not saying that is what this is, just being general). Seriously everyone here fits into one theirs the wow is nothing like war and vice versa, then their is the clone accusers, don't forget them I played UO so my opinion rules over all of (no offense)...etc just saying, but their will always be fighting...damns now that I thinking, I fall under a stereotype to, never the less we should (or try) to stop all the fighting, just drop the spoon and skip your serving of hater cereal ,and please don't yell at me seriously I can't handle it I will break down and crawl to a corner and cry.
