You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

Definitely one of the more original titles in the MMO land.  Planetside actually does something different and unique compared to all the rehash MMOs.  As said above, it's a shame SOE let it go.  Then again these days it's hard to pay monthly for an FPS, when lots of them offer large scale battles with costumizable classes, and weapon unlocks for free.

Name one FPS that has battles that are as large scale as Planetside's.

As large as Planetsides glory days?  Probably not possible.  However if you look at large scale FPS's such as, the Battlefield series, ETQW,  Joint Ops,  Frontlines,  and even the Tribes series, in which a game like Planetside would draw from, there's really nothing the game offers to that demographic besides a subscription fee.  I personally have a few friends that play ETQW, Tribes and BF.  They have no interest in Planetside simply because you pay monthly to essentially do the same thing they are already doing in their game of choice (drive vehicle, achievement unlocks, pilot, footsoldier, in 32v32 servers at times).

Now tell me in the 'present day' of Planetside compared to how traditional FPS has evolved, what would Planetside offer me that the others don't that would keep me paying $12 a month when I could get the same satisfaction of "big battle" in a free to play game.

as hopefully visible in my sig, i mainly play TR on emerald. i/my outfit rarely plays werner or markov  and rarely another empire on emerald.

i must warn you, Markov has become Chinaside. the majority of players there are chinese (CN) and are lagging like a bitch.

depending on your timezone i would choose between Werner (european server) or Emerald (eastcoast server), Markov is located on the westcoast

sorry, 32 vs 32 is NOT a big battle. that alone should answer your question.

p.s: OMG 12$ is sOOOOOO much. its only like 2 drinks or half a decent meal LOL

Big battle is up to the person behind the PC.  Keep in mind I'm not agaisnt Planetside (if you read my original post) I'm merely stating one of the reasons 'most' avid FPS players wont touch Planetside "LOL."

Er, nevermind me returning. The game won't install and continues to have a cyclic redundancy error.

I've tried everything to get it to work, but unfortunately it is rather annoying so I guess I will wait.

Scratch that, I found a free download of Planetside. Should work now hopefully.

I know we've fought with/against each other a few times.  I used to play on Emerald and go by my name here Centhan, or Nathnec.  I also have characters with slight variations of those names (Nathnek, CenthanVS, etc.)

The TRx's (KOTOR) players were a good, tough bunch.

I've been playing Planetside for over 3 years, and I still love it.  Best enjoyed as part of a large outfit that uses teamspeak.
