World of Warcraft addons?

I have seen a lot of people talking about the addons for WOW such as for the auction house and the coordinates but noone ever says the name of the program. I was wondering if someone could give me the name and how to install it. Was also wondering what other addons are out there that are useful?

Thanks for your help.

There's a packaged group of addons called Cosmos that I like.  A lot of people don't like it because there's some pretty useless stuff added in, but you can pick and choose what you want to download and install if you use the patcher.  The patcher is really nice because it will download and install all the updates for all the addons at one time with a single mouse click.  Really handy when a new patch comes out.  Much easier than trying to find all the individual addons from curse.

    http://www.cosmosui.org/distros.php

Go there and get the patcher for your particular system, Mac or PC and you won't have to bother with any of the distribution packages.  Just unzip and launch the installer and the patcher will install itself.  Once the patcher is installed, launch it and click on patch and it will show you a list of all the addons available to be downloaded.  You can download and install them all, or pick and choose which ones to download and install.  The site above will give you details about each individual addon so you can decide which ones you want.

The one in particular you are looking for that adds map coordinates is called World Map Info.  Cosmos does not include an addon for the Auction House, but since Blizzard enhanced the Auction House in the last patch, I don't find that I need any addons for it anymore.

With Cosmos how do I get rid of all those extra menus? I only need the coordinates one. The rest are only in my way.

Have fun with mods, they can become addictive to mess around with.

Be very careful though to only get mods from trusted sites such as www.curse.com or www.wowinterface.com/find.php. If you extract a mod and find an executable file be damn good and sure you trust where you got the mod from and why that executable is there, it's possible to be a keylogger and have your account stolen. For a standard mod there is no reason in the world ever to have an executable file, it should only contain harmless .lua, .xml, .toc and image files for textures.

Cosmos is good to get a taste of what mods can do but if you have the time and patience it's best to build your own ui from individual mods. Be careful of certain mods that build a database such as gatherer and auctioneer. Because of the databases these mods build they can and will cause a framerate hit on your system.

If you want just coords, try this: www.curse.com/downloads/details/3440/

Also, if you want to try something new, I use this interface: www.curse.com/downloads/details/4720/

It takes a while to set up, but it's very nice once you get used to it.

If you only wish to enable the coordinates addon, the easiest solution would be to go to the character selection screen (where you pick which character to play with).  Down in the lower left hand corner is a button labeled addons.  Click on that button and it will display all the addons you have installed.  Remove the checkmark for everything except the world map info addon and hit ok.  Now pick a character and join.  There should't be any addon loaded except for the map coordinates then.

When you have the time, you might want to go back and review the addons and enable a few of them and try them out.  Only select the ones you think you might use.

One more thing I have found that is a godsend for addons is at www.wowmatrix.com

This is an awsome update tool that lets you find the most popular mods and with one push of a button you can also update all the mods you have installed.

it even installs them for you! plus it is 100% keylogger virus free as well.

my guild and I all use this and have found no problems at all.

it sure beats  looking for the updates after every patch and I am always amazed at how often some of these mods like omen update (i run it every day before I log in)

try it and see if you like it its pretty helpful for those who have problems with mod installs

If all you want is coordinates then I suggest you try Lightheaded, which will tell you the coordinates of things you are looking for, and TomTom, which give the coordinates you are at and let you set waypoints on the map using lightheaded.

Downloaded and installed Cosmos but I can not get the Worldmap addon to work. I use the right slash command and I get the /help text instead. Somewhere on the Cosmos forums it says to install Thottbot, but I thought this was just a sight. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Got it to work and I love it. Do not think I could live without it now, it is easy to use and extremely helpful when I need to find some of the quest bosses.  Thanks to everyone for their advice.

I downloaded this and tried it this weekend and seems to work really well.  Really easy to use.  It's not an add-on itself, it's on add-on organizer.  Will let you know when updates to your existing add-ons are available and lets you update them with a single mouse click.  You can also search thru the list of add-ons to find new add-ons to install.

When considering a mod, I think it's important to think about how much you're going to use it and if it is fair in regards to playing the game.

Here are the ones I use and what they do:

FlagRSP2 - Allows you to add a last name, title, and character descriptions.  A large number of people use them especially on an RP server so you can read other's descriptions as well.  Great RP tool.

Gatherer - Records locations of ore and herbs.  Very helpful instead of marking a map yourself.  It appears on both your map and mini-map in the corner.

Auctioneer - I use it more for determining whether I should pick up a drop or not.  If it sells for 10 copper, I leave it on the body.  If it sells for 2 gold at a vendor, I pick it up.  It also is good when buying to ensure you don't get hosed with spending too much on a green item or such.

I also get mine almost entirely from Curse.

I use xPerl unit frames, Omen for a threat meter, Damagemeters, a one inventory bag mod called BagOn I think, a Radar mod that allows you to put thing like professions trainers, bank vendors etc. on the minimap... and...

Something that gives me cooldown timers on all my abilities and any buffs/debuffs.. I can't remember what it's called.

I'm not 100% sure, but I have heard that Gatherer is considered "illegal" by Blizzard.

Ugh, I hope not.  If so, I'll remove it.  They've been good to me, it's the least I could do.  It seems a little unfair to me though.  Many people who have nothing better to do than play WoW know where all the locations are when they farm daily, whereas in my minimal playtime, I can barely remember how to play my characters.  Gatherer is the Ginko to my Biloba.
