Nice. However, if those are all propulsion trails they need some particle effects or something so they don't appear that defined. At first glance I thought they were some sort of laser weapons. Granted still images can be deceiving in this regard.
JP Evolution is looking good, I may check it out when it's released.
I agree, why do game companies always show the game without the UI? It's the most improtant part of a game and it hardly ever shown.
Probably because the UI is an ever changing thing, and they dont want to show us screenshots of something that will be changed later. As the game closes in on release, I'm sure we will get some more juicy details and images.

Ding. We have a winner!
Exactly right. We've gone through three or four major UI iterations since last summer and are still refining it. We do not consider it done and don't wish to show off something that is still in such as state of flux. We completely agree that the UI is important, and we're making a serious effort to ensure that the UI is highly customizable, so that things people want are where they want them, and anything not wanted can be moved out of the way.

Thank you for your reply, it is nice to know that JGE developers are stopping by mmorpg.com to clarify and hopefully listen to what potential subscribers are interested in.
The level of UI customization sounds great, and I look forward to hearing more about the game in the coming months.
If the game is anything like Earth and Beyond, I will subscribe, if it's anything like EVE, I will avoid it. There needs to be some innovation with space sims. Even Galaxies has avatars.. the code isn't that hard...
EVE isn't innovative? I'm not going to respond to that because like it or not EVE is a very original game with tons of complexity.
EVE also WILL have avatars soon.
As for these screenshots, I am not impressed. They wen't what seems to be the cartoony direction like Wow and that's exactly why I could never get into Wow. I will give benefit that this is pre beta and I understand the process. I will give the game a fair shot when it's released.
I think that it also has some of the look and feel of Earth & Beyond which is a good thing. I liked E&B and went to Eve when it closed. So to have an alternative to Eve is a good thing IMO :-)

EVE is innovative and complex, but for me, and I suspect many people, it requires too much time for too little payout. I play games to have fun, and EVE was always more work for me than fun.
I'm not sure what you mean about cartoony direction. There's nothing cartoony about the screen shots I've been looking at. Check out the main website and poke around a bit.
Jumpgate Evolution is one of those rare games that I know I will like because I loved the original. I just couldn't deal with the epic silence from the lack of players because people got bored for legitimate reasons. However the new Jumpgate game is bringing lots of the old veterans back, and those people are truly outstanding when it comes to a community.
If you are looking for the next Earth & Beyond, this in all likelihood isn't it. Jumpgate has been centered around PvP in the past, with PvE slapped on as an afterthought (Jumpgate PvE consisted of shooting pink seafood in space). It has been stated multiple times that JGE will be PvP centric as well. E&B was PvE only.
There was a certain playstyle and feel to E&B that was great. It is one of those games I missed. They only real thing that sucked was the boring trade missions that you had to take to earn some meeded credits. I am looking forward to JE. It looks truely amazing.
Cudo's to Eve but it lost its appeal when the ganking started at the gates to systems. Not my cup of tea there.

As someone who has played both Earth and Beyond and Jumpgate, I can tell you right now that they only thing they have in common is that you fly around in space ships.
Be prepared to participate in PVP everywhere you go. A bounty system kept people in check in the territory controlled by the three different factions, but venture out of that and you're fair game.
What makes Jumpgate different from EVE by and large is that you have total control over your ship and have to aim your weapons. This adds a big level of personal skill to combat not centered around rolling a pair of invisible dice to determine if you will hit something.
is this game have some more creation than EVE?or some IMPORTANT difference from EVE..? the graph is not better than EVE from my sight.
The main difference is that you actually control your ships with a Joystick as opposed to the RPG in space that EVE currently offers. Add to that some realistic Newtonian physics, and you have a fairly realistic space simulator where you as the pilot have full control over your ship.
The graphics really don't need to be any better than EVE's. Jumpgate Evolution isn't trying to bump EVE off the map. It really is a niche game.

Nice level of detail... I'd love to see a few screen shots of the ui though

I Reject your Reality and Substitute it with My Own!

The ships are ugly looking. Since it's all about the ships I would hope they have some cool designs.

Im sad It looks like EVE some 4 years ago... But still hope better detailed meshes.

I too agree that it's refreshing to see a Dev post!! And I very much like the screenshots..
