true but I didnt refer to all books as bogus and not cannon because the movie/books obviously are. I dont get why people continue to believe the books written are somehow cannon and part of the official star wars lore. Even the biggest fans seem to believe this. Here on this post subject we had like 5 people talking about a post episode 6 MMO as unrealistic because the story has been told... as if that were true !!! George Lucas has repeatedly said the books have nothing to do with his vision. While attending a Q and A with George at Celebration 3 some fan asked if George were to ever make episode 7-9 movies, would he follow the books. George Lucas looked at him and said "what books", the fan said well you know the ones written by so and so. The fan obviously didnt get it. Lucas said "for the last time the books arent cannon, if I were to make more movies the books be damned"
Yeah, but does Lucas himself follow his own rules? Are the books based on movies "canon", in that they fill in some holes in the movies, but Lucas doesn't feel a need to stick to the stories of his own adaptations when he puts together his next on screen project?
One of the problems with creating someing like Star Wars, or Star Trek, or LOTR is that you've got this universe that attracts people with imaginations that are sometimes greater than that of the creator, who have this insatiable need to KNOW what happened before or after the work that created the need. Lucas had a backstory and an afterstory all sort of set up for Ep IV, but he's retconned both with his "Special Edition" nonsense, an almost Orwellian revisionism has crept in. See the "Han shot first!" controversey in which Lucas denies the very nature of Han Solo in retrospect.
I mean, he says what is on screen is canon, and then he monkeys with what he's presented on screen.
The guy wonders why people hate Jar-Jar so much, too.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
One hundred rumors and "unverified" sources later and I still call bullshit. Sorry, but when Bioware says they are working on their own intellectual property for an MMO, that's exactly what I believe. They said sometime in 2006 that they weren't working on a Star Wars MMORPG and were working on their own intellectual property for their MMORPG. Then in 2007 after all these rumors were going around about a KoToR mmorpg, they made another statement that it wasn't a KoToR MMORPG either. Another poster mentioned "why the hate." Probably because those of us on this forum are tired of rumor mongerers.
Bioware has never stated they are working on their own IP for a MMO. I frequent the Bioware site regularly and have never seen such a statement from them. In fact, they immediately shut down any post relating to MMOs or SW. If SW MMO rumors bother you so much then may I suggest not reading the SWG refuge forums.

I do not work for Bioware.

As much as I want to believe that the BioWare MMO is indeed based around Star Wars, I'm still holding back my own excitement until an official announcement. That's not to say that the OP's info is false, but here's the problem I have with it.
In my opinion, the Clone Wars era would be a mistake if Jedi will be a playable class. Undoubtedly, people will want to be Sith or "Dark" Jedi. In that time period there are only 2 Sith. Now you're in the same situation as SWG with all of these so called dark Jedi or pseudo-Sith running around. I played SWG from launch til the NGE & myself as well as everyone I played with hated the wild deviation from the original storyline that should of followed the time period that SWG was set in.
I think it would make alot more sense to have the time period set either far into the unwritten future so they can have complete control over how they want the story to proceed or go back to around the Sith Wars where they have already laid a foundation & build off of that. People could either fight for the Republic or the Sith army and still have plenty of choices for what they want to be. Just my 2 cents.

No, what we know is the Bioware is working on an MMO in texas, LA and Bioware have a project brewing that is supposed to be pretty awesome (according to the press release at the Bioware site), and Bioware has a KOTOR project underway in Edmonton. Admrl has info that seams to indicate a starwars bent to the MMO project. However this could be a 2nd project at work in tx or a red herring platned to mislead. As to timeline, I'd say the 18 years between Ep3 and 4 make a good target with lots of potential mass appeal. I know, no dark jedi available. Lucas will probably add a "lost sith colony" or the like. Not sure how it'd be addressed, but hopefully Bioware will talk him into something decent.
As I remember from my vauge watching of the cartoon she was the only one with curved light sabers. Biowares putting a big risk into the game in devolpment. Most people are addicted to SWG and so they think they'll make money because so many peole play SWG.
I think a lot of people want a functional and enjoyable StarWars MMO, that doesn't get pulled out from under them.
I also think LA would like to market a StarWars MMO that helps people forget about the NGE.
As for SOE, I think they wanna milk the dead cow that is SWG until it's completely decomposed.
Its seems that most are looking forward to the next SW MMO. Anyone want to wager the SOE will produce Pre CU servers if a new SW MMO is announced?
I'll wager ya. It'll never happen. Even if they could they wouldnt. Not with the current management.
I disagree. I think it is exactly the sort of thing that SOE would do if Bioware did introduce a new SWO MMO. Too little, too late, too buggy, for the wrong reason, poorly implemented, poorly managed - yes, that's SOE all right.
I am one of those hateful, resentful, anti-SOE vets, just like a lot of you, HOWEVER... I needed a Galaxies "fix"after being gone since NGE, so I downloaded the 14-day free trial and used it to sign in with one of my oldaccounts. I have to say right up front that even though this is not the game we all bought into and loved, it isnow actually a somewhat decent game. I am having fun for once in this game (since pre-CU). I am a Commando and Iam currently doing the new Beast Master Prof (that ANYONE can do!) and I find it to be WORLDS more than WoW's Hunter Profession; WAY more diverse (I currently RIDE A RANCOR as a mount) and way more the way the old game used to be.
The population IS low but do I see noobs coming in all the time. I see this game as actually being close to what itwas pre-CU/NGE. With a few modifications to the targeting system, it is back to the way it was targeting-wise. The missions are now way more robust and actually are fun to accomplish. They make more sense now and a LOT less running around, your next leg of the mission comes via comlink and you go right on with it. Old player towns are gone (a lot of them) and have been put back into the owner's datapad so land is freed up. The expertise system (talent points) is well thought-out and, I think, better thought-out than WoW's is. Cool new ships and creatures, the ability to extract DNA and make mutated creatures either to mount or to join you in combat (and these things do WAY more damage than WoW pets and they are a lot more diverse)... You can basically have ANYTHING as a pet and nearly anything as a mount. Just the fact that you can mix DNA and make TOTALLY UNIQUE MUTANT pets/mounts is amazing.
I think it is safe to say that we have all "spanked" SOE/LA sufficiently and I have set aside my anger and resentment in order to enjoy the game I once loved. NO, I do NOT work for LA or SOE and I am not a fanboi per se.
I am just an abused Vet that needed a fix and found more than I expected when I came back. The feeling is still there, the fun is still there, the nostalgia... And so what if there are people that say there are "Jedi everywhere?" There aren't, and the ones that are can be pwned quite easily if they're not specc'd right. I personally do not see Jedi everywhere. The profs are too diverse now and people are actually doing other profs.
BUT we need crafters. "No decay," you say? Well, that is what it is but we still need food for our pets. We still need vehicles, structures, weapons, armor, etc. We need SOMEONE to craft... Download the 14-day trial and use your existing account to log in and run around for awhile (and longer than 5 minutes). Modify your interface, get that stupid over-the-shoulder camera view off, resetup your targeting and off you go. Things would really take off again if ya just came back. Think about it, you know you miss it. It's not like the game is offline, it's just...different. And mostly in a good way. You'll never know till you try. And Smugglers can actually SMUGGLE now. My alt is a Smuggler and it is a KICK!
Just my 2-cents worth. Have a nice day.
P.S. Rumor has it that people with SWG accounts that have been active for at least 1 year prior to the release of the game that LA/Bioware are doing get auto-invites to that game's beta....hmmm. Hope that one's true!

First of all, I don't see myself (or many others that post here) as hateful. Saying "buyer beware" isn't a message of hate, rather it's one of conern for other game players.
Second, your post reads as an advertisement for the NGE, not as someone sharing their experience upon returning to the game. What I mean by that is, you spend a lot of time trying to point out that SWG is like WoW, but better than WoW. That's pure SOE marketting speak.
More marketting speak is that the missions are more "robust." If I had a nickel for every time SOE said they were making the game more "robust" I'd have enough to take the mrs. out for a fancy dinner tonight.
More marketting speak is that the game is "almost like pre-cu!" First off, that's pure "get the vets back" marketting. Second, it's b.s.. Did they bring back all of the 20 plus deleted professions? No, of course they didn't. Did they bring back the skill system instead of levels? No, of course they didn't. Is the game still loot based rendering many crafters useless? Yes, of course it is. Is the game still a hyper-kinetically-paced attempt to have an MMO fps? Yes, of course it is. And no, the target lock option is nothing like the old combat system, at all. It doesn't feel the same, is doesn't look the same, it doesn't play the same because...it's not the same.
As for the pitch to come and try out all the neat mutant pets, did you know that once people figured out how to work with the mutant system they nerfed it, once again pissing a lot of people off?
As for the new missions or heroic instances, you know there are some serious bugs that make at least one of them unable to complete don't you?
Also if you're not marketting for SOE, why this line: "things would really take off again if ya just came back, think about it you know you miss it." Tbh, that sounds more than anything like a drug pusher trying to hook someone whose been clean for a while.
As for smugglers actually smuggling, did you get the dev post saying "smugglers will not be given glorified delivery missions". What are the smuggling missions? Pick up something and deliver it somewhere. Along the way some dudes standing in the middle of nowhere might shoot you. If that's not a glorified delivery mission, what is?
Jedi are not everywhere you say, are you kidding?
And did you really say people need weaponsmiths? Loot drop weapons are still superior to crafted weapons, so crafted weapons and weaponsmiths remain useless.
If you don't work for SOE, which frankly I'm not sure I believe in light of the nature of your post and their history of outright lying to customers, why are you saying all these things that are blatant marketting attempts and at times not even an accurate reflection of the game as it is?
My message to SOE a few months ago, would have been if you really want vets back, stop trying to mislead them with bogus marketting, and stop giving them broken bits and pieces of their game back over the course of 2 years. If you were really sorry for the NGE, as Smed said, you would have instituted classic servers a long time ago.
Now, however, my message to SOE would be, stop screwing with the StarWars IP and let it go. You've done enough damage by now. Just stop.
. P.S. Rumor has it that people with SWG accounts that have been active for at least 1 year prior to the release of the game that LA/Bioware are doing get auto-invites to that game's beta....hmmm. Hope that one's true!
May I say that I genuinely and respectfully believe that this is the most desperate attempt by a low-level SOE employee to viral market a dead horse that I have ever exerienced? I applaud your shamless chutzpah!
Will I love/dislike/hate the result, I can't say. It will most likely be linked to the endgame they keep secret unless their are core flaws to prevent me from enjoying the game until their secret endgame. A lack of endgame would work for me, or more of the main gameplay would also work...what are they going to do? I have no idea. Will I like that? I have no idea, but if they switch gameplays around, they are playing with fire. Fire as you know is very usefull, cooking, warming, light...but it can also....it really depend on what they are doing.

Haha, still think it is medieval-fantasy and no sci-fi.
The fantasy market is much bigger and honestly, myself I am tired of sci fi...but again...
Whatever they do, I will end up trying. In the case of Mass Effect, when the price tag drop to $20...and Jade Empire is the exception which confirm the rule, as I don't even want to try it ever. But their MMO, I will try it. If it is sci fi, maybe a year or two after release. If it is medieval fantasy, on the day of release if I can.
The rumor about pre-CU is ridiculous, they could do MUCH better than that, there is no point in getting such an old system and redoing it. They can make a skill-based system a LOT better than that...but...I doubt BioWare will work with skills, I expect them to work with classes. But...1 isn't exclusive of the other necessarily...yet...

The only way you'd have this much detailed "information" about the game itself is if you played it and never quit after NGE. So what's the reason that you're either back to the game or never quit the game in the first place? What's your reason for still coming to this forum if you're so "over it" in terms of the game being so bad? You're just as PO'd as the rest of us and you're attacking anything positive and putting such a spin on it that it distorts it way out of proportion.
I'm having fun in the game that NGE made me HATE, and I am sharing WHY with people. I tried to provide detailed info on WHY I like it, so that spin creeps like you won't post replies like: "You said you like the game but didn't say why. You should have provided reasons instead of just saying how much you liked it. You MUST work for SOE by saying something positive, now let me whine and spin things my way, balh blah blah...."
Personally, I think YOU'VE done enough damage, so stop. Just stop. Get some therapy and try to get over this game for REAL (or just admit that you still PLAY IT).
And to be truthful, this game was never perfect, it sucked from day one, and there was a mass exodus LONG BEFORE the CU was even thought of. So no, this game was never Nirvana, nor is it now. I'm having fun for the first time since I left at NGE and scr3w y0u if you don't like it. And maybe, just maybe, someone else might just like it too if they tried it again. But thank God we have YOU to think for us.
As I said in my original post: Just my 2-cents worth.
G, perhaps what you don't realize is a number of people that post on this forum have gone back via vet trials or even subscribed. They test the game to see if they think it's improved to a point where it's playable for them. They often pop back in here and describe what they saw. Some posters have agendas and look to tear down the whole experience. Others provide much more constructive criticsm about the state of the game.
Many of their experiences contradict your view of the game, which seemed to be cast in a bit of a rosey tint for a number of people here. If you feel that way about the game, that's great for you. Enjoy it. Not everyone here shares that opinion regarding the quality of the gameplay, though. When you write a post about how great the game is, you should expect others to disagree. Some will do so in a civil manner by bringing up valid points like ArcAngel3. Others can be less courteous.
If you're having fun with the game, that's great. If you want to share your experiences with the game, perhaps posting in the General Discussion forum would be a better place for it. Here, you're likely to draw out more and more critics.
As for blaming the vets here for damaging the game, I think that was done long ago by the company that runs it. After all, they're the ones that dramatically changed the game twice and invalidated months and years of gameplay achievements for some people. They're the ones who gladly sold an expansion knowing a signficiant portion of the content included in it would be invalidated or diminshed two weeks later. They're the ones who show little interest in listening to feedback from their subscribing playerbase, both in the past and presently. They're also the ones who gladly sacrficed a majority of subscribers in pursuit of a potential target audience of WoW proportions that never really appeared.
I think those events did much more damage to the game than any forum posts here could ever do. This is just a place where the repercussions of those events still resonate. The real damage was done by SOE/LA.
You should take this to General Discussion, because around here it will only be seen as trolling and flame-bait. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you are not deliberately trolling in these troubled waters. But deliberate or not, those posts are certainly flame-bait.
Gotta say, OP's post reads like your typical invented conspiracy theory hoax.
As for the sith.. say, I have wondered.. watching the movies a few weeks ago, I noticed one clear thing that Yoga said about the Sith and the dark side once or twice: There are only ever 2, a master and an apprentice.
So all stories that include many sith and misc dark side related jedi-like types are fully anti-lore, including the bioware game and followup and past (and possibly future) starwars mmo content, and from the looks of things the cartoons?
Its seems that most are looking forward to the next SW MMO. Anyone want to wager the SOE will produce Pre CU servers if a new SW MMO is announced?
I'd be content if Earthside works out, though a new SW thats completely out of the popular story loop, distant past or distant future, where the devs can have complete creative control over the content while still existing in the same general SW universe (because the name sells, if nothing else, even if its a craptastic game heh), would be pleasant.

I'll wager ya. It'll never happen. Even if they could they wouldnt. Not with the current management.I disagree.

Just stop.
May I say that I genuinely and respectfully believe that this is the most desperate attempt by a low-level SOE employee to viral market a dead horse that I have ever exerienced? I applaud your shamless chutzpah!
I will try BioWare MMO.

So here is my *ponder* on this post.
Why does the OP claim to have some huge find.. but not post scans of this artwork.
Then talks about "reporting" on this issue since last year.
Then links to rlmmo to a thread which is a rehash of this one.. just posted over there as if it offers something new or different.
Why not link to something like...
http://mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/71629/page/1
The latest news folks and its BIG!!!
Bioware bought out Pre-CU code and the rights to SWG... or was assigned them by LEC...
In march of 2006.
The OP of this thread assures us on 3/20/06 that this is FACT... which he found out from the same brother in law.. mentioned in this post.
I noticed all the Pre-CU servers running and the boxes with "EA Bioware" tagged on them at the local stores...
oh and btw... where are the scans of this artwork?
I noticed over at rlmmo.. people are wondering why you are posting plenty of text.. but nothing else.
Oh and btw... why did you re-register or did your other account get banned?
