I think DDO deserves a higher rating. It is easily up there with the best of them. I just wanted to see what you guys thought. If I'm just crazy for liking a PVE game so much being I'm very PVP oriented then I dunno.
Let's hear what you think.
Serious death penalties makes every close call an adrenaline rush, and every minor achievement a major victory. This alternative rule-set should be in all MMORPGs.

Actually, I sent off an e-mail to the staff not long ago stating the same thing. Especially since the MMORPG reviewer recently said:
""While the visual style was there from the start, the actual feel of D&D took a bit longer to develop. I have to give Turbine credit for listening to their audience, as most of my complaints about the earlier version of the game have been addressed in subsequent" modules."
Sounds to me like a re-rate is merited.
Which rating are you talking about? The scores on the 'game list' are scores given it to by players in the community who have rated the game. If you just mean the rating that MMORPG.Com gave it then a re-rate is probably in order. But that won't change it's rank on the game list. Only thing which will do that is players changing their mind about the game and rating it higher, or more people coming into MMORPG.COM and rating the game high, if they feel it deserves a high rating.
The rating on the 'game list' is what players in the MMORPG.COM community think of the game. Community rates it right around 7.7... which is pretty fair to be honest. When I re-rated it after coming back to it my rating came to a solid 7.8... it's not 'the best game evar' but it's certainly a fun game and worthy of trying out. It's my fantasy MMO of choice. But I'm not going to give it fake scores in graphics, sound and other areas just because I like it. I gave it honest ratings in every area. It's a good solid game and the value is awesome if you get the anniversary pricing (9.95 if you pay 6 months at a time).

Nah ... someone had that weird idea like; we are not going to do this, nor that etc...
it was just like a new model of mobile phone, without all common things that people use all the time and want to have on their handsets, such as camera, web, text etc.... whilst few will say yeah its great and deserve better rating for I never use any of this features anyway .....
But Devs said we never intended to do that nor this, nor have that .... List is so long, so to cut it all short, the game was f/up
In Modern MMO nowadays people look for a virtual worlds that is close to realistic world as possible, a world with housing, jobs, reputation, achievements, adventures and many more.... list is endless
Making a game that feature just one or very few of those features is outdated and not desirable
Basically DDO is a good game only questing -wise , also combat system is great but ...it misses proper economy and meaningful world in which your character could evolve in every possible way , such as a politician , crafter , trader etc. which originally d&d was all about
Also having simple things like housing system helps players immersing into universe and feeling that they have moved there and are building their life inside that virtual world
Evolving and developing character in d&d should have endless possibilities, in DDo only progression is combat one
Without proper economy, world is not whole, all gear and treasures are boring....
and no open simless world you can explore, (what DDO has and call open space is in fact many closed instanced maps, that you get teleported to ....its impossible to get any feel of relation of that area to the rest of the map and everything feels artificial like a holodeck in startreck and completely disconnected from the world itself ... whole game feels as it was a console game, with an arcade progression yet mmo style
So I say a niche game for a few, who might just love it ,and not miss all this... that was never intended to be
don’t you just love that excuse devs use for all those things that were missing " we never intended to....."
On the other hand its the best questing system out there, sadly questing alone is not enough to keep me, nor any of my friends playing it
Actually if you want to speak of "realism" in a fantasy world then let us speak of realism. I so hate the argument that crafting, ect. to add realism to a fantasy game.
Your character has a profession, it's class. That is a job that required years of apprenticeship and training, and requires additionnaly large amounts of time is both practice and training (i.e. use) to increase in their mastery of said skills.
In addition you feel that by adding a second proffesion (which also requires years of training and time to practice/increase) to this same character that this then adds realism. I am sorry there is a reason that people were either a blacksmith or a soldier, either a baker or a farmer, ect., ect. So to argue that things should be this way from a "realism" standpoint is just plain inane and naive about the way the world functions. Had you wanted to argue froma "fun" standpoint then fine, that is a opinion and you are certainly allowed that but please stay away from the lame "realism" argument, your character has a full-time profession, Adventurer.
While I agree with most of MMORPG's rating, the "Value" rating should probably get a bump simply because there is twice as much content since the review for no added cost (and the recent $9.95 special should help too).
This game most definetly needs a new review based upon the Current State of the Game. The problem for most "reviewers" is they aren't going to be able to see alot of the higher end content which is being acknowledged as the better additions unless Turbine takes it upon themselves to showcase other-then-raid content.
But yes, this game does need to be re-reviewed since it's a vastly superior product now then it was when it had launched; I had quit for a year 1 month after launch.
Reputation is in game. Jobs, do you mean professions? That was never part of D&D. What's realistic about being an adventure and at the same time a blacksmith? Indeed if you could become a strong blacksmith in game would be a nice addition, but you would probbaly be unable to spend years for training as an adventurer. If we talk about realism.
How realistic are worlds like EQ2 or WoW? You leave a town (3-4 houses with a few vendors and dozen of quest NPCs), and immediately you see mobs all over the place. At one spot you see level 10 wolf, and then you move to a bit more dangerous zone and you see a level 60 wolf just a bit bigger that could alone wipe every starting village. How realistic is to travel the whole world in 30 minutes. How realistic are the graphics when you compare WoW or EQ2 with DDo? And how realistic is to not be able to wear even a leather armor when you're a mage?
DDo is probably the most realistic MMORPG out there and that's why it is far less popular than the rest.
REALITY CHECK
DDO as an instanced game should have been a FTB (Fast turn based) combat system instead of the crap it has now.
No the rating should not be increased, its already rated way to highly IMO.
It missed its opportunity, failed to deliver, and just can't compete with the features available in MMOs both current and over the next year or so. I'm afraid this game will never see the success of others no matter what its score.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Well, since you're not the one rating it for MMORPG.COM, your point is moot.
In fact, the only point that matters is that the rating is from launch, and the reviewer stated himself less than a month ago that DDO has fixed all the problems he had with the game...which means it deserves a higher score.
Sorry to bog you down with logic and all...
p.s. ALways amazes that the minute this site is mentioned on the main DDO forums a couple "lurkers" suddenly show up to slam DDO. You're either playing still, or still reading the main site and wish you were. Why don't you head back over there and put your negativity to good use where it belongs...
k...thanks.
So then by your logic all games should then be rated at launch and stay correct? Geez, WoW didn;t have 10 million subscribers at launch, nor that much content, I wonder how Vanguard would rate considering it is going through a major rebuilding, simple world view FTW!!!!

Too bad you don't know what you're talking about 'cs it would haev been nice to have an intelligent discussion about DDO's shortfalls at launch compared to the current state of the game.
What's interesting is that the reviewers who are writting about DDO on many different websites are saying the combat system is one of its strengths. For a matter of fact, it is essentially a "fast turn based" combat system and plays in real time because of it. ("turns" govern durations, attacks and cool downs on recasting)
Generic forum trolls are quite populous here at this site. Would be nice if two of them had half a brain to put a thought together.
Why can't someone at least state facts if they're going to critique a product?
