What I'm looking for in WAR

HERE IT IS.... WHAT I WANT IN AN MMO!!!

I want a game where I lvl up by standing around a tree killing the same mobs over and over as they re-pop.

I want a game where I walk into an orc village full of 200 orcs and I can kill them each one at a time despite the fact that they are standing 10 feet from each other.

I want a game that has crafting and the crafting costs a lot of gold and uses a lot of mats and nothing that I can craft is really any good and it's all made obsolete within a month.

I want a game with high repair costs that requires me to grind for hours to pay for my raiding repair costs.

I want a game that requires me to use flasks and pots to raid and for me to have to grind for hours to pay for these items.

I want a game that caters to uber guilds and 1337 kids who play 20 hours a day.

I want a game that forces me to spend a huge amount of gold to respec twice a week so that I cando both pvp and pve.

I want a game is so boring that people hire gold farmers to essentially do much of the work in the game for them.

Will WAR be right for me?

You forgot to ask for ingame unattended combat macros so that you can watch  episodes of the Golden Girls while the game helps you level.

Thats a very good point!!! Excellent idea.

I did go back and edit my original post to add:

I want a game that makes me spend 100+ gold a week to respec from PvP to PvE and back again so that I can do both PvP and PVE (which if you ever played a tank you know what I'm talking about).

Respec fees are my favorite thing.

You sound to me like one of the many players who play MMOs with the idea that there is some end and that is all that matters.

If you don't take your time to "smell the roses," as in, enjoy the game for the quests and the leveling and the thrill of the battles rather than just wishing it would all be over, you're NEVER going to be happy.

You want to be max level and you want uber gear, but you don't want to have to play for it? Those 1337 kiddies who play 20 hours a week are a tiny minority. Yet, there are plenty of epic'd out players, in WoW and other games, who achieve it at a more casual pace.

The difference between them and yourself is that most of them enjoy their play time. If it all feels like a grind to you, that's your perception. IMO quit and play CS. It has all the thrill without the gear and levels.

You sound to me like one of the posters, who unlike everyone else on this thread, are not in on the joke itself. Look, We all know that "The internets is serious business" but at time's people do try to inject some humor into the mix.

    Counterstrike?

bah, what MMORPG player is going to have good enough FPS ability to not get smashed and have to wait 1-3 minutes to play again.

If you want some real fun, go grab TF2 and play on an instant respawn cluster-F server.

you'll have so much action you're face will bleed.

Hehehe. Nice post OP. I found it amusing and a good read. I imagine WAR may feature everything you are looking for!!!  :)

  • amoroneamorone Member UncommonPosts: 209

Everything you lists sure sounds a LOT like another game.....one who's majority of player base I sincerely hope stays over there and far the hell away from WAR.....but your list does not sound much at all like the WAR I know or expect....thankfully.

I think it's been said on here many a times that it helps to look at WAR more from the perspective of all the best aspects of DAOC than to look for comparions in the pros/cons of other games. I think Mythic wants to make a groundbreaking game, not a "us too" one.

Actually I do smell the roses.  When I lay out that 100 gold to respec twice a week I smell nothing but the joy and beauty of the game.   I practically drool with saliva pouring out of my mouth dreaming of going out and grinding for more gold to pay those respec fees.   Repair bills are a close second.

I love this so much that I'm thinking about quitting my current real life career and getting a job at McDonalds where I can do daily quests in the real world.

For all it's flaws, until WAR comes out, WoW is the best (and only) real PvP MMO out there.

    Nothing else comes close.

I'm saying this as someone who actually thrives in WoW arena PvP, and has played basically every other game on the market.

It's mostly the scrubs that cry. Players that can't break 1600 rating, don't try to improve their actual play skill and instead find 300 different things to blame -from the amount of time that some people play to the gear to the respec costs and whatever else.

Bottom line - you suck. WAR will hopefully be an awesome game (I'm personally very optimistic) but you're going to suck just as badly at it as you do at WoW right now. Bad players never learn. They don't learn to macro. They don't read up on advanced strats. They don't understand half of the dynamics underlying PvP.

The worst part is that they don't even know what they dont know.

Bad players stay bad. Games change but players dont.

If WAR's pvp is anything near WoW pvp I'll jump off a cliff with some lemmings.     Ever since PvP was tact on its destroyed any sense of proper balance, infact the game's been more imbalanced since PvP came into a bigger focus then a server ruleset.

Repeat WOW is a PVE Game with PvP tact on months and months and months later and of course it wasn't what they even promised!

Seriously WoW is the best pvp mmo? its a PVE game with PvP added onto it as a secondary thought of "oops".    EvE is the top dog in true PvP MMOs ( go give it a try and see what happens to epeens ) and when Age of Conan releases it'll probably take top dog and when Darkfall ever releases it'll most definitily become king.  (seriously these remarks are coming from a primarily PvE player because WoW pvp was so lame she couldn't even get into it.  Even EQ1's pvp was better).

WAR is Realm vs Realm an entirely different concept.   See Dark Ages of Camelot for the RvR concept oh and if you run off to RvR on your own you're pretty much pwn'd since RvR from what I gather is group based.

    /rant off.

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

I'm sorry but I am going to have to disagree to a very high degree.  ^ <><>

I think thats one thing I saw on WAR is that you won't ave to go back and forth respeccing to to do PVP and PVE. And OP I know what your saying I was a tank also in a high end raiding guild it does suck having to respec just to farm. I hated farming or doing daily's as protection but I mean its the way they made the game. i had fun in WOW for the years I played it and I complained to myself WOW this sucks and I got bored of it and I moved on recently. I am not the most hardcore PVP person I did PVP and I did some arena but not all that much. But it did get to be a hassle where I had to respec alot of times just to have any chance in grinding but the thing was I didnt even have time for that alot of times my guild raided 5-6 days a week so that didnt leave alot of open time for me. I am waiting for AOC and WAR right now while play LOTRO and a few others but really just leveling some chars and taking some time away from the whole raiding thing for now.

LOL anyone who thinks that qualifies as PVP skill is a tool.  And yes sir, I'm talking to you.   I doubt very seriously that you've played a tank in a raid guild... you are probably a mage or some other support class.

If you really like WoW.... more power to you.    I started WoW in Dec 2004....and quit about 8 months ago.  I had enjoyed raiding in WoW but TBC added too many grind features.  No chance of me ever going back.  I took the game off my computer and threw the disks away.

If you really think a game that puts that much focus on gear is pure pvp then I imagine that WoW is the only game you have ever played.   I used to be very good at Counterstrike.... now that's skill based PvP.....

SWG had better pvp too.  So you can put good pvp in a MMO.   SWG's pvp was the one thing it did right., especially in the early days.   It was a blast to run around and fight people in mass war sessions.  And it really didn't matter that much how good your gear was.  I mean good gear helped, but in a massive war it didn't matter.  WoW's idea of gear focused pvp is not pvp.... it's look I have the best gear.

The closest WoW ever came to PvP was world PvP and AV.   The arena is so far from PvP that it's a joke.

Anyway I don't know why you are even discussing WAR.  It's obvious that you will still be playing the WoW treadmill when WAR comes out.  If you like WoW as much as you claim that you do then keep playing it.  Some of us are looking for a new game with new concepts and don't want more of the same crap.  No one wants WoW 2.0.

I was going to add a couple of things to the OP's list but that 'WoW has the best PvP' post made my brain leak out through my ears......

Ok, got my grey matter stuffed back in now:

How about not being able to finish a quest because the quest giver has been killed by a group of six year olds with nothing better to do, leaving you with up to an hour to wait for a re-pop.

Or, the indestructible NPC's that stand there while the game's idiot quota beats up on them, and the city guards that just walk past oblivious to it all.  ( I really wish devs would give these NPC's a hammer of megadeath and a will to live heh ).
