I don't get it? When I accept a credit card from a bank I expect the highest level of security already. There seems to be some information being withheld about this new system. I don't trust SOE.
Any iimprovements to online security is fine by me.
Now if SoE could do something about improving their games then the added security would be worth it IMO.
All they are adding is a password to online purchases... If you really want it, and do not trust SoE, go to the Visa or Mastercard websites and sign up for it there.
I no longer trust any internet based creditcard processing. That is why I use PrePaid Amex gift cards (when they are accepted, Blizzard does not), or purchase the game time cards (If they are available). I have left games because of the dificulty in getting the game time cards (EQ, EQ2, DDO). And buying a game time card at an online store with my credit card is NOT an acceptable answer...
If you think that your creditcard information is safe, just because you do not use it except on secure places, you are mistaken... I now get 100+ spam emails a day sent to an email account that I set up for a single purchase from a secure website that offered all the bells and whistles. This told me that it was not as secure as they claimed, and I canceled that creditcard and will not purchase from that retailer again.
The real benefit of Verified by Visa/SecureCode to us as cardholders and users of SOE is that it adds a layer of security to our credit cards. Meaning, if I have a Verified by Visa password on my credit card and someone either steals or buys my credit card information they would not be able to use my card on SOE because they would not know my password. Much like my ATM card. No one can get money out of my account because only I know my PIN.
I like the added security.
