That Pavoratti song...I wasn't really a huge fan of that one. His rendition of Ave maria (I don't know how it's spelled) brings a tear to my eye though.
Literally the only human who could sing in a language that I don't understand, and make me cry.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
I was thinking about this and only came up with 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' (Beatles) for the early 60's, and 'Born to Run' (Springsteen) for the 70's. Although I agree that 'White Rabbit' would be a pretty fair choice for the late 60's.
Anyway, you might enjoy looking over Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time:

Eh, anything Luciano sung was epic. Even the time he accompanied the spice girls.
I just posted the first result on Youtube, which ended up being Nessun Dorma.

Err, I was just revisiting this thread and had to comment on this choice. The overriding impression I've had of anything I've ever heard from The Cure is 'OMFG gay'. And I generally have nothing against gay bands per se (REM = ok, Queen = Sorry, I can't tolerate the falsettos, and Riot Grrl music (often lesbian themed) I'm rather fond of).
Now I don't even know if The Cure is a gay band or not (Wikipedia says nothing about it). This is just the vibe I get from their music.
I would recommend putting some of the old TOOL songs on your CD rather than Wings for Marie. While that song has great meaning, the old songs are where it is at.
I disagree, with the exceptions of Third Eye and Stinkfist, I don't think any those songs reach an epic level of Wings. Maybe Aenima, but not in my opinion.
Sober is always good, but I never understood why people think its THAT good.
Still, to each his own.

Okay, this is freaking me out a little. The song 'White Rabbit' has been popping up everywhere suddenly. It's suddenly on radio stations that never play it, and I could swear I heard it on a television commercial. Is there something going on with this song I don't know about?
Friggin hilarious vid BTW. It's probably a sign from the people running this simulation we call "life" that we're actually just deep down the rabbit hole.
Anyways.
You want EPIC? I'll give you EPIC. I'm the master of EPIC. In the sense of "bombastic", "heroic" and "cheesy". I'm a big soundtrack fan so...
You'll want to go for composers. Hans Zimmer. Basil Poledouris. John Williams.
Or less known but also awesome groups of composers. These are some of the people who make music for trailers:

Whenever I think of an "Epic" song, I think of Holy Diver by Dio. Not that there aren't better songs, but this one just strikes me as "Epic".

So here's a few EPIC songs.
Crimson Tide as performed by Nightwish
This one is called Love and War by Immediate music. The accompanying AMV is utter crap compared to the music. And compared to anything else...
Pompeii by Posthumus.
I know. Not really "songs". But still epic.
When I feel like it I might post a screenshot of my lil soundtrack collection.
