Well it's been 5 months now since Entropia announced they'll be using the CryEngine2 in their MMO, it seems that graphics is the main thing AOC has going for it, so this is a massive blow to AOC fans.

I may not be up on all the info, just wondering how this is a major blow for AoC???
Also, there is more going for AoC than graphics.
I'm not sure how this is really a blow for AoC....I mean AoC's engine is being designed specificially for MMORPG usage and Crytek's engine is for FPS games...
1 is ready to go for MMO networks and 1 needs heavy modifications / add ons. Not to mention the only game we've seen using the CryEngine sucks.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
I was thinking about the bandwidth issues of the cry engine, but then Vanguad uses Unreal so it will probably be fine.
The other issue I have is the scaleability, how does Cry 2 work on older systems, MassiveMO's really need to be as accessable as possible to fill the servers.
Otherwise I say cool banana. Crysis looks sweet on my system. Glorious even. I'd like to explore more enviroments made with it.
Sounds like it's years away from launch however, so AoC won't be affected in my opinion.
Can't wait to see the cryEngine2 on Entropia, this game is really cool and people are nice in it.
Syndy
I dunno. First of all, considering it's been 5 months and the interest in AoC has been going still, that kinda defeats your own argument right there.
Second, even with scalability, the CryEngine 2 still requires a lot of Hardwarepower, a lot more than AoC I would wager.
Third, Graphics is one thing, but not the only one. All in all, I think there was no blow whatsoever.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
The system requirements needed to run Crysis are pretty high. If a company wanted to make a MMO I don't think it would be that wise to use the engine yet since a lot of people still have low/mid end gaming machines. The "recommend" card to even run Crysis is a 8800GTS which not a lot of people use at this time. So they're limiting their customers since plenty of them won't have the specs to even run the game.
lol, troll looking for some flames huh
Engines are not only for FPS guys. Unreal Technology, G5, Q4 and such engine are there to render graphics and physics... of course they do alot more stuff and offer various tools. Keep in Mind that an engine is just like the name say... an engine.
You can do anything you want with these engine as long as you have the license, the knowledge and the tools. The reason we license an engine is to cutdown the production cost... It takes alot of time to make an engine so these days it's almost better to just grab the powerful engine and reshape to your game.
If you do it right then you have games like Lineage 2, Rising Force and other pretty decent MMO, if you do it wrong then you have Vanguard when it first released.
CRYengine can render some of the most impressive things to date so it's only logical to use them
So I heard LEGO Universe will be coming that will truly be a massive blow for Halo 3. You don't think this is a kind of strange connection? Just because you aim to have good graphics doesn't mean that, that a game will have better graphics will be hard on the game.
"Entropia"? What is it? A company, and making what game?
AoC is being released THIS year, not years from now. If you have something relevant to compare to AoC then feel free, but this doesn't appear to be it.
Entropia Universe.

I don't think people are looking forward to AoC based solely on its graphics. The engine they are using is the same engine from AO, just actually updated and working a hell of alot better. People are waiting for AoC because its something new, offers something a little different than the games they are playing now. Its also based on the whole Conan thing, so people who are into Conan will look into the game as well.
Graphics dont make an MMO. You could have a game that looks awesome with a graphics engine made by Pixar. Doesnt mean it will be a good MMO. Graphics are only one fifth of the overall equation.
AoC will be a great MMO for those who want to play it, WAR will be great for those who like it, but they will like the games because they are fun to play in thier opinion, not because they use the latest and greatest graphical engine with uber eyecandy.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
